Agree completely with that. SOS, on visible evidence, deals hard but fair, and has very specific things he's looking for, and suffice to say a 33 year old is not on that list.

I will say, though, as he's a contracted player, that it is on Geelong to come up with a trade which GC will facilitate, not the other way around.

My argument has more to do with the how different both sides will value Ablett, and how there is simply no way to get it done without one side or the other getting shafted. Never mind how, if you get Ablett for more than the third you suggested, how do you then pay for more than just Devon Smith?

Smith and Ablett, sure. Hopper and Ablett is a bit of a stretch, but all three of them?

I tend to agree with others who have said that we'd be taking in too many of similar types here.
One inside mid and a couple of speedy inside/outside types may be somewhat more favourable.

Cripps & Hopper as primary inside mids would be brilliant, with SPS next in line and then Fisher in a few years time.
Kelly, Cuningham and possibly Williamson playing inside and out. Guys that have the outside speed and quality of possession into the forward line.

It's all somewhat subjective, but at this stage, I'd be thrilled with that outcome.

Agree. I also get the sense that the Kelly offers are twofold - whilst we'd love to have him, by upping his offer, we put salary cap pressure on GWS which will help with getting Shiel as a free agent next year.

There's been a lot of talk re: Gibbs going/staying.

I've watched the hawthorn replay a few time now and each time I watch the post-game interview of Murph and Gibbs I'm struck by the way Gibbs stated that "me and Murph have played them 11 times and haven't beaten them in my career; Blues career so far."

Why would a player who was committed to staying at Carlton delineate in such a fashion?

I think the move to Adelaide is still definitely on the cards.

Could have stayed and been a 3 time premiership player and an all time legend of Geelong. Instead he went to chase the cash. Thats Okay.. thats his decision (not what I woudl have done, if I was in his shoes)... but see your bloody commitment out. You want the cash, you bloody hold up your end of the deal.

His leadership there has been shithouse too. Just let a horrible culture develop underneath him. He should have been really setting the standard and showing the kids the right way, but he didnt really seem to care.

Bit of jealousy i'll admit at just how good they've been at acquiring talent, after the likes of Tuohy, Henderson & Dangerfield to stay up the top of the ladder.
Add getting Hopper, Smith & Ablett to that list in the last 3 years and it's just ridiculous.

They have to get those players, I don't think they are good enough to win a flag with what they have.Im not sure of the profile of their list.

It pains me to no end not having a 2nd round pick this year.
Honestly the only one I would want would be Baltic but even then it would probably cost us our 3rd rounder with maybe their 4th coming back also.
The greatest joy I have had over the last 2 years is watching kids that we have drafted play.

That's the price you pay.

Possibly Casboult compo at Pick 20/21.
Send that along with next year's second rounder to GWS for Hopper and Kennedy.
Third rounder for Balic.

Means we keep our first rounders this year and next, but potentially need to manufacture a 2018 second rounder to assist with matching a bid for BSOS.
