He was an absolute gun as a kid up forward to, I remember CMan on TC was quite enamoured with him when he was part of the recruiting team.

He was that good up forward that he barely played mid yet ended up a mid pretty quickly in the AFL system. That's unusual to say the least.

I'm not averse to it though I don't want to dilute pick 3 in a bidding war

With all due respect - bullshit.

The playing list don't get veto rights on recruitment of players, that's entirely up to SOS as list manager.

If Rockliff shows enough maturity in an interview that the List Manager feels he can fit into the existing hierarchy, then an offer will be made. If his character doesn't gel, he won't. Simple.

Alternatively if a senior potential captain like Doc left because of certain behaviours exhibited from said Rockcliff ....... then sure ..... bring him in, smart move.

**** the morale of the playing group ........BS back at you. It doesn't count my arse ......

Perhaps speak to Juddie as to why he really left WC.

This only matters if we are going to the draft with #3.

Would supporters be open to losing Gibbs, #3, 2018 1st and picking up Kelly, Stringer and Rockliff via FA?

Add Kennedy.
2017 and 2018 1st rounders for Kelly and Kennedy .
Gibbs for Stringer in essence .
Rockliff for free via FA .

Don't want him so don't care.

But seriously, Geelong? Basically every player is linked with them.
It's like moving interstate without leaving home.

We are looking to improve our best 22 and complement the existing players.

We lack mature midfield depth, particularly "inside". A Kelly/Kennedy package would
be perfect, however, at this stage we are uncertain if we will be getting either, let alone
both.

Rockliff is a legitimate A Grade midfielder (regardless of the parochial sabre rattling by
many on here). He is also a proven goal kicker when spending time forward. Unless
Gibbs is on the move, I would be very surprised if we would be getting both Kelly and
Rockliff, but he is a no-brainer as Plan B.

Our other trade rumours such as Lang are not guaranteed to be an upgrade on our
current "depth". I really like Balic as a player, but am sobered by the recurring suggestion
of a strike or two.

I don't doubt that SOS would do due diligence on Stringer, as his talent is unquestioned.
Even before the domestic dramas, his demeanour on field often left a bit to be desired.
Not for mine, but who knows?

If Doc were to have a sook now if we recruited Rockliff then he's not the "captain material" we all think he is.

I'm confident he wouldn't have an issue with it, but regardless it's not his place.

Rockliff was a poor choice as captain - not a natural at it and got bugger all support and development from his basket-case of a club. He was too young and too immature, and thought in order to earn respect as a young captain of a young team that he would need to be a hardarse.

He seems to have matured and mellowed now, and it would be interesting to have a conversation with the bloke to see if he's come to terms with where he went wrong as captain. You know who gets to have a conversation with him...? The List Manager.

If we recruit Rockliff it won't be as captain, and it would be extremely unlikely he'd even feature in our Leadership Group. If he's OK with coming in and playing his part, the players will get over any preconceived notions.

The Rockliff appointment as captain was a classic case of your best player not always being the best choice as captain.

Was far and away the best player on the list and one of the best mids in the game at the time, but possibly one of the worst choices for captain in history. That doesn't mean he's a bad guy and that Docherty will have personal issues with him, perhaps he just hated playing under him and didn't like playing football under his leadership. Personally they could be fine, but they could have had professional issues with the captain/young player relationship.

In any case I think Sam is a big enough person that he could get over it for the good of the club. If not, as stated above, he probably isn't the captain material we all think he is.

All for picking up rocky, he's a gun at winning clearances and I'm sure Cripps would like the help. Pick him up regardless of whether Gibbs leaves or not. Bolts won't take any shit anyway so I don't think the no dick heads stuff really matters... if he comes in to a new club and starts rubbing people the wrong way he'll be in the vfl.

Totally agree with this, free shot, doesn't cost draft picks and is good at what he does, dickhead yes, but maybe him not having a sniff last trade period humbled him a little. Roll the dice!

Easy, make Doc Cap now, he can work under him and see how it's meant to be

Much rather go to draft again in a big way

Package Kennedy Smith with Salary Dump player for 2018 second round pick
Balic for Boekhurst
Lang for pick 135. Cats need room to bring in Ablett & Stringer
Gibbs to Adelaide for 10 & 38

Got to draft with 3, 10, 38, 40, 56, 74 plus some other picks between 40-60 that SOS will to some deals for. Between 6-8 players in ND and 3-4 rookies.
