Can we just play Kreuze in the middle and let Casboult ruck the other part :(

Why do we still have Warnock on the list - ******* cut him!!!! He is ruining Kreuzer with his paycheck forcing us to play him

Yes and no. Kreuzer's injuries are ruining Kreuzer but we don't need to assist in that by playing him out of position when he is fit.

I wouldn't worry about Krooz.

The technical/stats guys will work out pretty quick his impact as either forward or ruck. If his output and the teams performance are better in those minutes he's on the ball I've no doubt he'll spend more time on the ball.
Yep. He wants to play ruck he has to be the gun we all think he can be. And to be a gun he needs to contribute when he is resting forward. Its not too much to ask of someone of his talents and considering the investment that has gone into him.

I just think Malthouse is trying to get the most out of him but he can only do so much. The rest has to come from Matty and by all accounts he is having a crack.

Is there any debate that ruckmen should rest forward?

The disenchantment seems to be that Kreuzer may have been asked to slot into the Shaun Hampson role while somebody else that is not capable of going forward plays the first ruck role.

Is Robbie Warnock being asked to learn to play forward? The guy is 206cms with long arms. He should be monstering forward roles like Sandilands does on occasion.

Stats don't really matter to me, watch a bloke play live, attitude is everything, stats are inflated in today's modern game with the way it is being played, kicking backwards and kicking to one's self then playing on from fullback is a stat. Stats can lie if you don't watch a person live. Where they position themself, what they make of their opportunity when it arises. Brad Hardie won BOG in a state game yet had about 7 goals kick on him by his opposite numbers, but his stats were good:rolleyes:
Greatest example, buy a musicians album, then go and listen to them live, if they sound just as good live the recorded stat didn't lie, if they sound shite the recorded stat lied.

Did you miss the 2nd half of the season where we won only 3 matches? We beat only St K and WB out of the bottom 6 teams.

Also beat the Suns, North, drew with the Bombers. Probably should have beaten both Freo and the Cats... Regardless, thinking the ruck situation is paramount to us not finishing last is frankly absurd.

I think it's a bit of a fad. If one player is a better ruckman & the other a better forward, logic dictates you play them in their best position as much as possible.
Having a relatively non-dangerous forward in your team opens up a lot of opportunities for the opposition defence to make you pay.

I agree with you completely.

But if Malthouse thinks that Knockers is worth one last shot at becoming a decent player while Kreuzer hones his forward game I am not against that. You would have to say that Kreuzer's contributions in the forward line have been underwhelming, apart from a few notable highlights. If he can become a real force there, and for the life of me I cant see why a 200cm man mountain with his skills could not, we are a much better team.

If Warnock succeeds he suddenly has currency at the end of the year and he gets moved. Fails and he gets Lucased.

Either way, Kreuzer becomes our number one ruck and can also contribute forward.

OK........if MM believes Kreuzer's greatest value to the team is as a forward, he has lost the plot, and I will officially revoke my "acceptance"
of him gleaned in the closing few games of 2014, and the ensuing trade period. I was previously critical and lost all hope with his long winded
"process".

Watson has shown plenty and should now be mature enough to produce at either end of the ground. We supposedly staved off some substantial
offers for Levi, who is an adequate 2nd ruck in the modern game, and who may struggle to maintain a spot without that role. We recruited the underperforming but highly talented Jones (which may be a master stroke) to join Hendo as KPF options. Jaksch also has "claims".

Why do we need MK to play predominantly forward? Simply, we don't.

In all likelihood the forward first claims for Kruze are primarily a motivational tool. He wants to play first ruck so will bust his arse to do so.
Similarly if Kreuzer was trumpeted as our rucking "saviour", surely Warnock, and to a lesser degree Wood, could not be blamed for going through
the motions preseason, taking the cash and "cruising" through pre-season. MM wants everyone fit and ready for the season ahead.
The vast majority of us have written off Warnock, bemoaning his lucrative contract. We didn't acquire our young, developing ruck, so we need
all the depth we can get.

With FA looming for Kreuzer, the last thing our brains trust would want to do is pi55 him off. If he is fit, playing him forward instead of ruck will do
little to reduce the offers likely to be tabled for him. Surely there is not a misguided attempt to reduce his price tag to re-sign.

I reckon Warnock will get the chop or be traded at the end of the year and Kreuz will be the #1 ruck again. It might just be a year of playing out of position (70/30 forward/ruck rather than the other way around).

Hopefully no other clubs get into his ear and convince him to move regardless because honestly, I understand if MK is frustrated at having to manufacture himself into a forward now. Wouldn't blame him for thinking about jumping ship next year because of it. He is a ruckman, it's pretty straightforward. If he doesn't have it in him to be a forward (much like Laidler), then wanting to leave for another club will be no surprise.

I know he has been injured but he has played 106 games. I feel those stats should have painted a picture by now and don't require another look to determine best position at 26 years of age.

Players sometimes don't play in their best or preferred position but where the team needs them.

Assessment of all players happens constantly. Players do improve or change their technique particularly if their favourite position is up for grabs.

Plus, the game changes and MK's strengths may line up more favourably with ow the game evolves.

Walker got played everywhere, seemed to have found his best position under Ratten an then got moved back to defence under MM. What position will he play next year? Supposed to be forward, but will it. Hendo plays a different position every 5 minutes.

I'm sure that, if circumstances dictate, MK will spend more time on the ball. MM won't stick his head in the sand.

I just can't subscribe to the notion that Warnock gets to play number one ruck over Kreuzer. I can't subscribe to the theory that Henderson, Casboult and Jones can co-exist with Kreuzer in the forward line. I can't subscribe to the theory that Kreuzer should be in the forward line ahead of any of those three. I can't fathom what the team needs might be that require our best ruckman to not be ruckman and become disillusioned while we build up the value of another ruckman so we can trade him. It's just not worth a whole year of our time to build up Warnock's value.

Let them compete for the number one ruck spot ... certainly. Declaring one is playing forward and we all know that is because Warnock can't (Shaun Hampson nods furiously), doesn't exactly inspire competition for that number one spot.

MM knows he can ruck, hasnt shown much as a forward. This could simply be smoke and mirrors, pretend he is going to play forward to have an excuse for nursing him through the first decent preseason he has had in forever, while allowing him the chance to hone skills that will make him dangerous when he does go forward for a rest.

I will be shocked if Kreuzer is fit and isnt our first ruck choice by round 3, if he doesnt start there round 1.

I hope it is all smoke and mirrors Jabba, but I don't know that such mind games would be necessary for Round 1. It's not like Richmond need an extra couple of months to prepare for Kreuzer in the ruck.
