:(

Surely there would be a tribute to both Rose and Waite on "Talking Footy" tonight.

No Caro wisecracks, please, out of respect-- but a tribute to the two men would seem like the right thing for them to do.

My sincerest apologies then, I had not heard and I honestly thought it was someone just having a go at Collingwood.

Bobby Rose (No. 22) will always be remembered as a Collingwood great.

This is very sad news

Bob gave his all to Collingwood and in turn it made him a legend of this great game. He fought bravely and sadly he has now left us, but he'll always be remembered.

Condolences to the Rose family and the Collingwood Football Club

Grace & Dignity are just two of the words you could associate with this man !!!

What an absolute legend of the game, what with an outstanding individual career as probably Collingwood's greatest player, and his composure in gut wrenching defeats as coach of Collingwood.

His devotion to his family fabulously portrayed in the book.

As a boy I had the pleasure in meeting him at his 'disposals" store in Forest Hill and later at numerous functions. A man who generously gave his time to many.

A very sad night......

BTW jimmyheard exactly the same thing was said when Teddy Whitten died , Freo came up against them & proceeded to belt the bullies to a pulp.

Vale Bobby Rose the greatest Magpie of them all.

This isnt aimed at anyone who has already posted necessarily but no crocodile tears from those who have lambasted Collingwood's so called failures in 1964 (4 pts) 1966 (1 pt) and 1970 (10 pts) as Bobby Rose was the coach of those teams.

You have indirectly called Rose a failure by your sniping so dont crap on about him being a legend.

It is the saddest night for this Collingwood supporter's life of support of 39 seasons and on a par with the destruction of the career of John Greening.

Short article of news on Bob Rose's passing-- more later, I'm sure.

Pies legend dies
July 7, 2003

FORMER Collingwood great Bob Rose has died after a short illness with cancer.

The 74-year-old, who played 152 games with the club between 1946-55, was regarded as one of the AFL's greatest ever rovers.

"The Rose family wishes to thank everyone who has sent cards and messages in recent weeks, this meant a great deal to Bob," a statement from the family said.

"The Rose family also knows that people will appreciate their need for privacy at this time."

Rose, a member of the AFL Hall of Fame, later coached Collingwood and Footscray, leading the Magpies to three grand finals in the 1960s and 1970.

Rose is also a former Victorian and Australian father of the year for his devotion to son Robert, the former VFL footballer and Victorian cricketer who died four years ago.

And indeed, "Talking Footy" is discussing memories of Bob Rose, right at the top.
