Nobody wrote the letter. Large chunks of it have be lifted verbatim from other unrelated sources published online for other purposes. So it is not only a lie to attribute this letter to the bloke in question, it is plagarism of other people's work.

I wonder if this is enough to refer to the AFP for fraud...
Ha Ha, that would be funny.
It appears Andrew Bolt is proving himself to be a little dishonest. Why it is necessary for him to attack Bruce Pascoe and his ideas so much? Most of the data in Dark Emu comes from settlers and explores diaries, if you read, which Mr Bolt apparently has not, you will see that.

He's spot on about Pascoe imo. The aboriginal peoples uninterrupted occupation of Australia through 40,000 years is one of human kinds greatest achievements. Its is no failure whatsoever that they didn't go through an industrial revolution and its the ultimate disrespect to imply they kind of did. There's a bloody good reason those privilaged enough to have been "in country" with traditional elders (including Botanists or Zoologists with PHDs) talk of a knowledge of the land and bushcraft bordering on supernatural. That's the shit that needs to be handed down, no need for reinvention.
Aboriginal ancestors actually arrived around 75,000 years ago, after leaving Africa around 85,000 years, making them the oldest extant civilization. As you point out a huge achievement and a fact to be celebrated. You can read Dark Emu and decide not to believe the early settlers description of Aboriginal agriculture and aquaculture, however some has survived colonization and still exists today, eg the Budj Bim eel traps. You can take a tour of them.

On July 9 1841, to the north of Gunditjmara country at a swamp near Mt William, Constable G.A. Robinson reported:
"an immense piece of ground trenched and banked, resembling the work of civilized man but which on inspection I found to be the work of the Aboriginal natives, purposefully constructed for catching eels."
Robinson estimated that the system of channels measured “some thousands of yards” (2km) in length and covered an area of “at least 15 acres” (six hectares). Studies in the 1970's dated the site to 3,500 year ago and revealed more evidence of construction including what may have been buildings. See https://theconversation.com/the-det...e-budj-bim-eel-traps-world-heritage-bid-71800. These are not the only relics, so it's pretty clear that aboriginals were not just Hunter Gatherers

So Pascoe's ideas are not new, and for some reason the evidence has been largely ignored. I will leave others to speculate why. I'm interested why Mr Bolt is so head up about it, to the point of engaging in fraud. For me it's something to celebrate.

Must be galling for him and his fanbois to have to eat shit like that though hey :D

The only people with a Bolt fascination are the usual mutley collection of ignorant bouffants with nothing better to do than whinge about a bloke whose column they allegedly never read (but just happen to know the contents).

Its like those people who STILL insist Y2k was a massive issue.

Businesses spent millions leading up to Y2K to ensure it wasn’t an issue.

2038 has the potential to be a much larger issue though.

Surely he's not offending blackfella's by calling out suspciously fair skinned academics who identify as blackfellas (but can't or wont prove their heritage)? I'm pretty sure thats what he was doing when he did get sued.

He got sued cos he lied about some people to intimidate other people to potentially not publicly claim indigenous heritage. A little bit like you are doing with your "fair skinned academics who aren't really black" bullshit.

I was working in an excavation in the Pilbara that yealded a bit of charcoal carbon dated at 27,000 years old. I know of a 40,000 year old artefact found in another nearby. I'm not aware of any evidence dated to 85,000 years. I'm not disputing - and I just havent seen the evidence?

I do however disagree with Pascoe's assertion of large permanent towns, 100ft engineered wells and irrigation, domestication of native animals and his discriptions of agriculture. Bullshit!

But ingenious fishtrap designs, landcare, use of fire, bushcraft... oh my boy YES! and it should be sung from the rooftops!!!! A tiny example.. i was in the field 300km inland in the middle of nowhere in the Pilbara in stinking heat - one of the highlights of my career - and this elder I'd become freindly with turns to me and goes " feel that, the TIDE just turned".

He explained that the wind had just shifted slightly and there was a temp shift etc... by now i had developed a huge respect so I made a point of taking note of the time to check after, and **** me ! it was within 15 mins of the tide change on the coast! It was no gimmick. He had to 20 things like that.

Where is Angus Taylor when you need him?

Josephine Cashman sacked from Indigenous advisory body after letter published by Andrew Bolt

The Aboriginal businesswoman Josephine Cashman has been sacked from her government advisory role, after allegations that she provided a faked letter from a senior Aboriginal leader as part of a campaign to discredit the author Bruce Pascoe.

Dolt feeding the pea-brains I see.

I thought he was spouting the bullshit line that there is no warming.

Yes they were conned by the IT industry in to wasting money

You would think there is a lesson in that.

Yeah, don’t listen to dumb idiots who don’t know what they’re talking about.

Once again your knowledge on all matters never fails to astound.

You have to cause damage as a first step yes, but denouncing another historian, who I suspect is just a bit controversial may not cause that much hurt, but any way assume it does. Then if he assumes the letter if it exists is real and reasonable then posting it is a mistake at best. Obviously don't have all the facts but it seems quite mild.
I’m suing!!!

Having sat there and tested one piece of non-critical software, watching it break time and again when fed dates after 2000, I can say without hesitation - yet again! - that every time you have played out this line over the last decade or so you have come up looking silly. Every single time.

I don’t know what makes you do it when, according to blackcat , you’re a genius bajillionaire. You’ve said in the past that one guy told you it didn’t affect the software of the company he ran.

Woo hoo! One guy!

Actually the IPCC said food production would actually increase with a warming of up to 2c.

For the utterly ignorant amonst the figbooty fraternity (ie those who want a boycott of Israel), here is the SCIENCE behind it.

Photosynthesis is a chemical reaction that takes place inside a plant, producing food for the plant to survive. Carbon dioxide, water and light are all needed for photosynthesis to take place. Photosynthesis happens in the leaves of a plant.
How does this mean “it’s good for us”?

We’ll be able to eat more plants as we head to Permian mass extinction? I thought you hated vegetarians?

a) your posts are undecipherable / illiterate (at least I manage to comprehend one in ten of blackcat posts)

b) I dont read Bolt. Why would I need to bother? I just get the various gurglers on here to give me a precis of what he has written.

Breaking news for you Charf. Cattle eat grass.

Meds public information service.

NB Permian was a while ago.

Hey Chief IIRC you've studied some law.

See my post #1008 - is Josephine Cashman potentially up for fraud? And Bolt?
I always thought fraud was about obtaining goods or money by deception, along with other stuff like financial advantage through false docs or claim of company directors.

I don’t think fraud fits here unless Dolt made money, obtained goods or made some other financial advantage. But I never studied the Vic criminal code. Others here (@contramundum) May have.

Bruce Pascoe displaying the sort of nuance, humanity and humility that a wannabe hardarse like Andrew Bolt and all his wannabe hardarse barrackers are congenitally incapable of.

What a stunningly beautiful, yet subtly provocative article.

The 85,000 figure leaving Africa is based on genetic information, most people would peg it at about 75,000 years but that creates some difficulties, see below. For a while it was believed to be the earliest movement of modern humans out of Africa, but recent evidence suggests other groups moved later, > 100,000 years ago, but these people are no longer clearly identifiable now, meaning the Aboriginals remain the longest extant civilization.

There is good evidence of a 65,000 ya occupation of Kakadu, but a few sites hint at an even earlier occupation of around 75,000 years, hence the reason I prefer the 85,000 ya date for leaving Africa, to be more accurate I should say its 75,000 +/- 10,000. But it's hard to get from Africa to Oz in a year during the Neolithic, unless they had a Fred Flintstone style aircraft. What an amazing journey it must have been. Imagine the Australia the Aboriginals would have seen as they gazed over the escapement at Kakadu, a wet, rich, heavily forested land still with much of the megafauna. Wow.

I think you are overstating Pascoe's claims. Most are to do with aquaculture, which is proven, though Mr Bolt would probably argue with that, forest management and low grade farming. The evidence for building is less so, but some stone structures survive on High Cliffy Island off the Kimberley coast, and the Budj Bim eel traps. Interestingly, more structures are being revealed, so it may be more definitive evidence of building comes to light.

No. He is not just a genius but a trailblazer eg Fox news.

Easily worlds greatest media magnate.

As for moron market, completely wrong once again

See The Times, the Australian, WSJ, Barrons etc
He’s not an innovator. He took something that has always occurred. Pandering to a subset of morons, and supersized it, in order to maximise profit.

Go look up father coughlin.

Most other major news orgs had the decency not to be so shit. He just had less qualms.

He runs papers like the Oz at a massive loss for the influence it gets him, then cons the plebs with shit like the Sun or the Telegraph.

Was just coming to post that.
Most of what I find objectionable about the likes of Bolt beyond the high school level writing and obvious (deliberate) logical fallacies he employs in every column is the meanness of spirit he exudes. He comes across as a nasty, unhappy person deliberately cultivating the worst of the human condition for a similarly inclined audience.

Contrast this with the beauty and generosity of spirit on offer in Bruce Pascoes beautiful prose. The world I want to live in encourages the best of people, not deliberately pandering to the vices of which we are all capable.
