In a glowing endorsement of the former Crows skipper, Thompson said Goodwin is "the most qualified person that I've met coming out of footy to be ready to coach".
"I think he did a fair bit (of coaching) towards the end of his career and he knew what he wanted to do and he's done a bit of work in that area, so he's ready," said Thompson

Rowey seems to think the plan was for Goodwin to be at Essenfon for 2 years and then come home to take over from Craigy as Craigy takes a "mentoring" type role. He also reckons that plan is being moved forward by 12 months, which is one of the reason this article has come out....

Of course we always believe everyhting Rowey says :)

I agree - what has he done?

give him at least 18 more months.

I agree that Goody isnt ready, but we've reached a point where Craig's job is no longer tenable. Unless we want a Mark Williams 2010 situation at the Crows something has to be done at the end of this year.

I would rather see Goody come across as the main assistant to Scott Burns.

Give me Rehn, Roo or Bassett if it has to be an ex Crow.

But... it will be Bickley:rolleyes:

Persoanlly I'd rather see Goodwin before Ricciuto as I'm not convinced he's the right type of person to coach...
But, I'd take Rehn and Bassett over Goodwin if we had to have an ex-player as coach.. Still not convinced that's best for us though....

Would love to know if Brenton Sanderson is interested in coming back to SA.....

Not surprising.

For all of Craig's lack of vision, his technical understanding of the requirements for modern football are second to none, and that has undoubtedly been passed along to Goodwin. In addition, Goody showed a (surprisingly) great deal of leadership on-field leadership in challenging times as well as meticulous preparation and focus off-field.

Don't know if he's the right candidate though.

I still think we have bigger problems in our football staff than Craigy. Installing Goody would be a bandage.

To be fair, their midfield has improved this year, even if they're not on fire any more.

Ah but what is the main criticism of Essendon right now? That they look spent after being flogged all pre season, this sounds very familiar.....

Strongly agree with this.

so that is goodys fault not hirds

or is it now goodys fault they can't kick there way out of a wet paper bag? or Hirds

I'm lost, all I saw was a Richmond style resurgence and then back to the same old

whats don pyke doing at the moment, seems we have gone downhill since he's left..

was he the midfield or forward coach?

He was a forward coach wasn't he? Didn't Noble take his position (as forward coach) when he left at the end of 2006?

Pyke went back to WA to 'concentrate' on his business.

I heard James Hird say in an interview a few weeks ago that he was pushing them too hard in pre season and that he appreciated having Goodwin, Thompson etc around him telling him to back off a bit..

I would like to see Goodwin coach in the SANFL or some where else before he is a AFL coach
