Yeah that makes absolutely no sense

What is Caroline smoking? How is "delivering five years of seven figure loss" good financial management? Am I missing something? Considering her next point is how it affected our ability to recruit players.

I can only think she meant that he started on the board in 2002 and delivered good financial management UNTIL either 2005 or 2006 which was the start of five years of seven figure losses. I think that's it because if she'd meant over his entire tenure she'd have written "since coming on the board" rather than "after coming on the board". Either way, it's an ugly sentence.

Now to put my money where my mouth is. Time to start looking at membership options for next year... :thumbsu:

I'd like to get back on board with my membership, but the departure of Bowers doesn't automatically mean that we will revert back to out traditional jumpers or play more than 5 games per season in metropolitan Melbourne. The issues that have seen formerly staunch Victorian members failing to renew their memberships have not been properly addressed yet and I will continue to adopt a "wait and see" policy.

Bowers and the board did a great deal of damage to the standing of the club in Victoria and whoever is in control from here on in will need to give supporters down here more than lip service if they want to attract members back to the club.

We're looking at punting Weevil.

Gone missing more than Sherman....

I hear he has asked for a trade to the Bulldogs board and they are offering pick 24 in the mod draft. Also said that he can only be good when moderating just one board..

No it doesn't, but the incoming administration seems to be more focused on actually listening to the supporters and bearing them in mind. It was Bowers' dismissive attitude to both members and non-member supporters that pissed me off. Obviously this won't be a tipping point for everyone we may have lost, after all everyone has their own reasons, but it's definitely a good start in my books.

That is your perogative. I think everyone is going to have a tipping point in terms of their financial support for the club and it is fair enough if yours hasn't been reached yet.

Suffice to say that this is a big step in the right direction. I am happy to reinvest some faith in the club's administration now provided it engages properly with supporters. I can understand that certain decisions may not be un-made but the club needs to at least have that open dialogue.

I'm similar. My membership of the Brisbane Lions was formerly automatic, but now is on a year to year basis. My membership next year will depend on a number of issues, including (but not necessarily limited to) the draw, the jumpers and the relationship with Fitzroy.

He also called himself a "great" moderator but is frustrated that he has to mod more than 1 board.

Curious as to the opinion of Victorian supporters. Given that I would expect a Brisbane-based team to play half of their draw in Brisbane, where they are based, how many Melbourne (metro) games would make you happy? Being it would be expected the club would also have to play some away games given the other 7 non-melbourne clubs it has to play against?

The merger agreement provided for a minimum six games...so six games in metropolitan Melbourne. Preferably seven in Victoria...with one in Geelong.

It's not so much the number of games, it was the Club allowing a trip to Tasmania be classed as a Melbourne game, and the fact the club just didn't care anymore down south, personally if we get only 4 games, we get 4 games, but I felt the club didn't care anymore if we played 1 game.

This.

I don't see how it is unreasonable to expect what was promised.

No more, no less.

I'll be pushing for the new administration to take this up with the AFL.

Don't disagree at all. Was just curious if these calls for "more Melbourne games" were expecting, say, more than 6. Because I think that would really be pushing it.

On a different note, the fact Collingwood usually play a minimum of 18 games in Melbourne with one obligatory trip to Perth, Adelaide, Sydney per year and the fourth split between Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, for the life of me, I can't work out why the Lions are unable to procure at least 6 games in metro Melbourne, even with the Gold Coast entering competition.

There is no reason that we should not demand similar fixturing to Collingwood, albeit differently and receive:

12 games in Qld (1 away to Gold Coast)
6-7 games in Melbourne (without including Tasmania as a Vic game)
3-4 games in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney.

Also, it would be nice to have 7 metro Melbourne games for once and have a break for a year or so from the Geelong away game that we get stuck with, although I preface to say that I would not want to lose that game if it meant a further non-Vic game.

If Collingwood can get pretty much whatever draw they want, surely it is not too much to ask for the above consistently.

and don't let the door hit ya on the way out! See ya! just had to drop by and do a happy jig, one down one to go!! :D
:confused:I thought Bowers was the last out the door. Who are you referring? Voss?

With the amount of Melbourne based teams, you would think we would play half our away games 'in' Melbourne. Why they pick us for a tassie game I don't know, would think a more popular melboune club would draw better.

I agree with the 12 home games (1 being 'away' to GC) 4 interstate games, maybe Sydney, SA x 2 and Perth, leaving 6 for Victoria. I think most would be happy with that, even if it's 5 metro and 1 at geelong.

Absolutely NOT. The agreement is for seven games in Victoria. Not 5, not 6. I repeat the agreement is for SEVEN and the club should never have moved from this position.

Wright is no stranger to AFL administration having spent five years as CEO of the Richmond Football Club from 2004-2009.

Thank God it's 2004 not 1994. Otherwise he would have been just as sensitive an appointment as the club's most recent interim CEO. Hands up who remembers who that was.

Matches are moved away from Melbourne that don't rate well in Melbourne, not because they will rate well in Tassie. So moving a match that involves 2 strong VIC based clubs makes no sense - this will always rate better than a VIC vs' interstate. Hawthorn played North Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Fremantle in Tassie this year.
