Brad Ebert asks to be traded to Port

How about Ben Newton

FYI, we will see enough of player drafted at pick #6 to know he isn't to be traded after one game also. We are not offering a bag of chips here.

Why on earth would we trade Newton?

WCE
Lose: Ebert, Pick 63
Gain: Pick 29 (PP), Pick 51

Port
Lose: Pick 29 (PP), Pick 51
Gain: Ebert, Pick 63

Pass. We won't be going into the 50s in this draft, so that's effectively Ebert for pick 28. He's worth more than that.

Why not?

Ebert in, Newton out is an exact exchange of roles - `bustling' midfielder that gets possessions that could be better, and good for an occasional goal.

He may well be, but Port can afford to offer unders. Port may even go down the line of Ebert for Pick 28 or PSD.

Well it is pretty farfetched that we'd be able to do that straight-up. Newton would have next to no currency based on his injury ridden year, unless there is some WCE recruiter with a hard-on for him somewhere....

True, if Adelaide really is out of the picture. The release from WCE said that Ebert had asked for a trade to South Australia, not necessarily Port.

Could just be posturing, we won't know much until next week I guess.

Re: Brad Ebert asks to be traded

I say we screw WC over and take him in the PSD. GC won't want him if he only wants to come home, and WS could of taken him before anyway with their un contracted player, so they will pass (if they even have a PSD before us?)

We get him for free. Forget this PP + 2nd rounder, he ain't worth that. If it was our 2nd rounder for Ebert, then I'd take that. PP as well, but not both.

PSD FTW!

There is a statement on the Port website saying Brad has specifically requested Port.

I don't think Ebert will use the threat of walking into the PSD to force us into a massive unders trade. He doesn't strike me as that sort of bloke.

Trying to remember the last time our clubs dealt with each other, all I've got is Schofield for Cummings back in the late 90s.

We don't gain anything by intentionally screwing another club over. However, we do hold the upper hand.

I say we offer our 2nd rounder and that's it. If that can't get it done, we don't bother with further negotiations- PSD here we come. We want this done straight away, within the first couple of hours of trade week.

I would presume that Eberts management has had some kind of contact with Port to sound out if they will go along with Ebert wanting to get there.

Im hopeful of a #33 plus player trade.

Re: Brad Ebert asks to be traded

I'm conflicted. On the plus side, it's nice to see that someone does indeed want to come to Port. On the down side, it's Brad Ebert.

Oh well. He's pretty average but he was a better player at West Coast than Jay Schulz ever was at Richmond, and looked what happened here. My hopes aren't particularly high but I'll give him a chance. At least we'll be getting at least one actual midfielder.

anti-exodus

Just look at Kane Cornes, we can't even get rid of the players we don't want :p

100% agree with this

Our 2nd rounder or nothing.

If not straight up for pick 28, it will probably be something like 28 + 33 for Ebert + 45. Leaving us with 6, Ebert, 45, 51.

If that second round downgrade seems a bit harsh, maybe a third round downgrade.

Happy with a PP or 28 + Motlop/Grew or 28 + PP for Ebert, 45.

No more, dont actually want him lol.

**** that. He wants to come here and we have pick 2 in the PSD. He's worth a second rounder at best, the PP is overs if anything. If they won't accept that, **** 'em, take him in the PSD or don't take him at all. I don't want to be the club that intentionally goes out to screw another club over, but Brad Ebert isn't that good and the PP is more than fair for somebody we could take for next to nothing if we wanted.

Sam Jacobs went for pick 33 when the Crows had Carlton over a barrel. Does anyone honestly think Brad Ebert is worth more than Sam Jacobs?

How about Ebert + Dalziel for pick 6?

2 strong ready-made midfielders for a first round pick

Why in God's name would Port want Dalziell? Let alone for pick 6. I hate trade week.

True, but it's a matter of perspective. Is a 2nd round pick for a 70 game player who didn't make your 22 for the prelim. massive unders? Or, do you consider it massive unders because you paid overs (#13) in the first place?

As for previous trade history- yep, don't recall much.

Whatever happens, hopefully we dont organise some Jay Nash inspired 'Jarred Oakley Nicholls for Pick 6' side deal.

Take him in the pre-season draft if we cannot get him for at worst our 2nd round pick (not PP).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there only three pick difference between them? Can't say I'd be too concerned with negotiating over a three pick difference.

That was their own stupid fault, we shouldn't have to suffer for it. They took Masten at pick 3 in that same draft and Morton went pick 4, that doesn't mean either are worth anywhere near that now.

 Isn't that exactly what I'm saying? That's why I think our 2nd rounder is reasonable. They paid overs.

Take rounds out of it - this draft is screwed by normal standards. Your second rounder is pick 33. I consider pick 33 unders for a 21 year old who's played 70 games, is rated extremely highly and was unlucky to lose his spot in the finals.

I consider pick 28 unders as well but if the club ends up taking it because we're left with no other option then so be it.

28+33 for Ebert+45 is in the ballpark of what's reasonable, for mine. Whether we get it or not's another matter.

West Coast are usually very easyto trade with & dont really try to make it too hard.

Brad Ebert for pick 33 (2nd rounder) under the circumstances being that you have a early 2nd round pick aswell as the psd threat should get the deal done.

Ebert-pick 33 slightly unders but livable

Ebert+45 - 28 + 33 Slightly over but would give confidence for future players that Port will get the deal done if you want to come there.

33 .......... Would be my Guess
