Official Club Stuff BREAKING: Luke Sayers steps down effective immediately (Jan 22nd)!

The constitution needs changing to separate years on the board of directors and years of presidency regardless of whether or not he himself will seek to change it.

Feels like Luke's gone before he's really gotten started.

This will not bode well for performance throughout the organisation.

What's the point?
He has been there long enough.

We dont need to change the constitution. Time to focus on fixing onfield and footy dept. not suring up board positions.

We are political enough without this meddling, which by the way, Luke Sayers tried to do in 2021 and was squashed by the threat of an EGM.

Sayers backed down on this and a few other pieces of constitution meddling.

Focus on footy.

If sayers is leaving this is pathetic. In the club's hour of need, when it gets tough, the typical consultant, heads to the exit. It seems very convenient, to take on the Presidency, for 2 yrs, when there is a convenient exit door called governance at the first sign of underperformance. I suspect if we were in the top 4, the constitution would have been bent so Luke Sayers could enjoy the spoils. We effectively have a terminal President and CEO, and a coach requiring support. That is not a blue print for success
Bent the constitution? I don't think its how it works.

Its actually a good thing that a long term board member tenure is up and its time for change.

MLG when he left, had his board tenure up as well. He handed over middle of his final year. Its not unusual and it shows we have a democratic process where power isnt centralised for years and years in the few.

Think about Luke Sayers past 12 years and what decisions he has been apart of.

He has see Ratten, Malthouse, Bolton, Teague and now Voss eras... we dont know his voting record... not published but we know we has been involved in multiple footy appointments, sackings and 5yr plan designs. Not good, not bad, just time is up in 2024

Holy sheet MJ.

This is an absurdly hot take, even by your standards!

There's rules prohibiting him from staying longer and you're having a go for him not changing the rules so he can stay longer?

The rules are there to stop that exact kind of behaviour.

The sky is falling on our heads.

How will we ever replace him with just 18 months to go? Or that we knew when he took over he only had three years to find a replacement...

We need to desperately change the constitution so that he has another 12 years to manage an orderly transition...

Maybe we should have appointed Putin? President for life...
My point is 2 years ago, the club needed a new president with a tenure that delivered stability. Sayers should not have run. My point of view that you describe as "a hot take" is based on the negative outcome-a club without leadership and a coach without support

So going way early, to get in first, on freely available public knowledge is now a journalistic “scoop” 😂 what a muppet.

So Eddie is available, I have no doubt he could help get us to a GF (against the Pies) & then “unintentionally” sabotage us so we lose it - but I reckon he’d work hard to get us there 😉

So I guess you’re in the yes camp if a change of constitution was brought forward to either extend years allowed on the board or split board of directors tenure from Presidential tenure?

Just remember though, it’s the members that vote on these constitutional changes and I seem to remember something similar losing a few years ago.

I don't believe in permanent tenure but you should not be allowed to assume the presidency with 2 years left. Maybe in that instance it has to go to members vote. I base my judgements on outcomes and the current process has not delievered in a time of need.

Is Sayers caught up in the PWC tax advisor scandal in any way? Was he in charge when that went down?

Edit yes he left in mid 2019 the tax leaks from what I read were 2013 to 2017. That doesn’t mean he had knowledge of it but perhaps it’s a good time to take a lower profile.

3 years and he said that when he first took the job. He's leaving after 2024.
I don't care what he said or what the process and governance rules are
The club needs long term stability in its leadership, now.
It is outcomes like losing Presidents, CEO's and Coaches after 3 years that result in our systemic failure

As the article said, Sayers has been there for multiple coaches so he's been part of some bad and some good. We don't know who else is coming through. We had some short term appointments to steady the ship, now we move forward with fresh ideas.

I'm fine with it.
