Fellas. Thought I'd create a sort of merger/poll thread on this issue. Personally, I think we should go for Kerr however I also back the club to make the right decision whether to take either player, or neither.

Said it before...

Trade Didak get early first rounder.....

Get one of Hartlett/Ziebell and with the second get Sidebottom.

Put that with Pendles, Thomas, Clarke, Wellingham, McCarthy....in 3 years you've got a premiership midfield.

Done.

I've voted for Kerr, but it would depend on price. If WC are asking more than we're comfortable paying, I'd be happy enough for the club to keep our players and trust Hine to use our picks wisely in the national draft.

it will be a much more premiership midfield with didak in it.

Definitely continue recruiting for mine.

If we are honest with ourselves it will probably be another 3 years, when Pendles, Thomas and the young KPPs are near their prime and we would be considered a favourite, similar to the way Geelong or the Hawks are thought of now.

J.Brown to me, is a definite no. Kerr is a possibility as he''ll be 28 by then and still have another 3 years at or near his best.

Just look how the last few premiers, other then the Swans who traded very well, have built their lists over a period of time. I'm talking Eagles & Cats with Hawks the challenger.

It is painful to think we have to wait another 3 years but when it comes it will be worth it and we'll get a prolonged crack at it over a few years.

I voted Brown because I'm impatient and want to have a crack at the flag next year. Though realistically I don't think our list can improve to the point where we will be genuine premiership chance next year even with Brown. Thinking about it now after voting I'd rather we had Kerr as he should be playing good football for longer but WCE will want to much so we won't get him. Plus I hate to think about him and Didak hanging out together on Saturday nights in the Melbourne nightlife. Be even worse if we got Cousins aswell. So with that in mind I'd go for recruiting, put some faith into the recruitment team.

If we are keeping Dids, then grab Kerr. If Dids is traded away because the club has had enough, then Kerr is a no-no.

It looks like Dids might actually end up staying, so sure, Kerr, for a price worth paying. He's still quite young.

I've voted for backing the club.

Non of us know what the recruiters are thinking and non of us know if they believe we can get the next midfield prodigy with our first pick. So, no matter what, I believe the club will make the right choice when the decision needs to be made.

Its simpler than people realise. If we can get the midfielder we want than we won't trade, but if we don't think we'll get what we want, we'll try and create a good offer.

Also, there should be a Cousins option, because I think, no matter what, we should get him with a late pick.

Keep Didak, Get Kerr. Don't worry about 3 years. Next year we will have a premiership midfield.

Kerr, Pendlebury, Thomas, Didak, Swan, Wellingham, Davis

Always remember that the National Draft is like a box of chocolates.
You just don't know what your gonna get.
Given that these players you mentioned could turn out to be good.
There is no guarantee.Still it would take these kids at least 3 years to develop.
Didak is a proven big game player who at 25 has not hit his peak.
I would not trade him.
Hine will pick up some good middies with our picks and yes the midfield with the inclusion of some new blood plus didak would be a premiership combo a lot sooner than 3 years. This is what we have been saying for the past 10 years. We cannot forever keep rebuliding.
Our side is a very young side we need a strong injection of middle tiered players like didak, Medhurst, swan etc for balance and experience and ultimate glory.
Trust in Hine to pick up some young kids,we should definately target COUSINS he will fit in and be cheaper than kerr, plus i reckon he is much better than kerr, anyway
So if had a midfield next year as an example of the likes of Cousins, didak, swan, pendlebury, thomas, davis, wellingham,Clarke, heath shaw,McCarthy, plus say a ziebell/hartlett or sidebottom.
Wouldn't that work ?One of these guys would be available at our first round pick.
And you don't have to trade didak to get that.

Sorry forgot to add JAXON BARHAM to that midfield. When you look through taht list we have the experience the youth ,the toghness and the finnesse, the makings of an elite mifield to rival anyone !!!!!!!!!!!!!

No Cousins?

We MUST get Cousins to get the young boys conditioned for the "Gut Busting" running cousins is famous for.

He taught Kerr then Judd. Imagine Pendles, Thomas, Marty, Wellingham, Cook, Macarthy, Swan etc. being capable of running like Cousins in his prime.

No stopping them!

I'm in limbo between "get Kerr" and "back the club to make the decision" for that reason.

I'm in the same frame of mind. The other thing that has me unsure about this, is the Didak situation. If we trade him off, and I'm not saying I am for it or that we will, what we get also plays a part. Say we get picks and high ones then I'd probably prefer we held the picks and backed our recruiters and coaches rather than send them onto West Coast or Brisbane. If we get say a first round pick and a talented young player I'd probably take the view that we'd aim for 2011 instead of 2009 and keep both pick and player.

Well said, but if we're going to rebuild we have to do it properly! We didn't after 2003 and nothing really happened (although we got very close last year). It' just how footy works unfortunately.

Personally, I'm interested in Geelong and how they're going to handle the team in the next year or two. Will they crash and burn or will they remain a powerhouse?
