Vlad was the biggest WTF the whole ****ing night

Seriously, the pausing, the attempted jokes, it was lame

Vlad the Brownlow is about the players, not all about you

Do us a decent favour and DON'T read out the votes next year

I thought he was pretty funny, loved the first Nahas vote and the reaction and Mezunga's vote.

They are always going to do the pausing, does make it a little interesting.

Worked out pretty early that a collingwood player was going to win as from around the 10th round their game was normally last read out.

Jobe Watson getting three votes over Adam Goodes in the one-point game had me scratching my head as well. Well, not scratching my head, more scoffing. Worst year I've ever seen from the umpires, really.

At the end of that game I considered how the umpire's would see Goodes performance. From memory he spoilt the ball through from a ball-up (automatic deliberate) which gifted Essendon a goal, gave away a silly free that ended up in a score, and had a chance to win after the siren (wasn't the easiest shot but it would still stick in their minds). Other the other hand, he was clearly dominant. So if they'd have won it was on his back, however that deliberate rushed behind essentially lost the game for them.

The worst part of the brownlow was they kept calling the pies votes last in which was an indictation that the winner came from collingwood. Why do they do that every year. Last year they called Carlton's votes last and Juddy won. I was glad that Pendlebury didn't win it tho

For God's sake Andrew don't show any humanity! Biggest WTF was a repeat of last year. Why is Brynne Edelstein invited and why does she look the way she does

Judd getting BOG in a losing game against Collingwood...again.

Clearly an inside joke with the umps at this stage.

Gary Ablett got 3 BOGs in losing games, two of those games they lost by 50 points plus.

This obsession has got to end. Judd finished 11 votes off the lead after starting favourites and a supporter from the team who the winner plays for, would like to see another 3 votes taken off him.

Umpires see what they see and it isn't an exact science. Plenty of players missed votes they were expected to get last night and plenty of players got votes they were not expected to get, Swan included.

Accept the Brownlow for what it is, and always has been and move on.

Griffs_Revenge brought this to my attention on our board:

Griffen 7 votes, Wells 5 votes, Burgoyne 0 votes, Thomas 10 votes, etc. Not only is it only a midfielder award, it is also now only an inside midfielders award.

During the season, Griffen had at least 4 or 5 BOG's. Easily. In each of our wins at least, he was either best on, or close to best on (bar a couple).

Thomas only getting 10 is also a major wtf.

Not entirely sure how Daniel Wells only accumulated 5 votes, thought he had at least half a dozen games where he would have polled quite heavily in.

I had a little WTF moment when Judd polled 3 votes against Collingwood. We lost that game. I thought he would have polled 1 or 2 votes but not 3. Not that i'm complaining.

I was going to make a thread dedicated to one thing but figured it wasn't worthy of its own thread but that the category of WTF's would be more appropriate.

Seriously... James Kelly polling just six votes was a serious WTF? in my books. He's been one of the more impressive players throughout the course of the season. The way he goes about his footy I would have thought that he does the things that would get him noticed. I never expected him to go close to winning it but I did believe that he would poll much more than what he did.

A minor WTF.... Round 10 - Mitch Robinson pulling in the three votes over both Murphy and Judd. Both M and J had an extra possession, laid more tackles, more goal assists and Murphy kicked a goal.

James Kelly, WTF?

Couldn't agree more with you about Kelly, has had an outstanding season and close to our best player now, i can't believe he only got 6 votes, that's just ******ed. Judd should have won this year and Swan should have won last year, the whole system is fu**** !!!!

The biggest WTF moment was Rachael Finch's weird as hell interview/expert's opinion at around round 3(?) where she was talking up Brad Sewell and then when she found out he was single looked like a deer in headlights before it came out she was engaged, but not wearing her ring. Her mannerisms were so awkward it was hilarious.

Second biggest WTF moment was the fashion rotisserie.

It's perfectly possible to get votes in a losing team. It's not the fact that Carlton lost that's the issue. It's the fact that Judd constantly butchered the ball and kept gifting it straight to the Pies.

If Judd deserves votes for that game then Bateman would have to be considered one of the best players last Friday night.

what about on the blue carpet, with demetriou and his missus on the spinning thing doing the interview what a joke!!

Well we are having a lot of people talk about possessions as being a defining factor in whether someone should get a vote, and Swan himself can win votes based on sheer weight of numbers. In that game, Judd was clearly the leading possession getter and given half of his possessions at least, are always contested, it is more than reasonable to think he might stand out in what was a good contest.

As I said before, Ablett got 3 BOGs from losing games. It used to be that players could win a Brownlow in teams that did not win a lot of games, by virtue of being a standout in losing sides.

Peter Moore won his second Brownlow in a Melbourne side that finished 9th of 12. Tony Lockett won one in a team that finished 10th of 14. Paul Kelly in a team that finished 12th of 16. Brian Wilson in a team that finished 8th of 12. Barry Round in a team that finished 9th of 12. Kelvin Templeton in a team that finished half a game off the bottom.

This feeling that the BOG has to come from the winning team regardless of what the players did or how good the contest was, is ridiculous.

I for one and rapt that Ablett scored so well in a wooden spoon side. He is not his team and was not responsible for them losing 19 games. He was just as classy as he always has been and deserved to be recognised.

Frankly, it was the magnitude of Collingwood's wins that got them so many votes. They put teams to the sword so invariably the 3-2-1 were going to Collingwood players most games. In fact out of 132 possible votes from Collingwood games, Collingwood players got 111 of them. I feel like some of their players were largely ignored in the voting and that there is no way Swan and Pendlebury are that much better than their teammates, but that is what happens in the midfielder's Brownlow.

I'm actually pleased that Carlton's votes were shared around more and for too long some of our players have been living in the shadow of Judd and not getting enough credit.

Yeah, that one was an interesting one. Goodes certainly was the most influential player on the night by far, but the fact the swans lost, and that he made a couple of bloopers probably is why he didn't get the 3 votes. I think he may have also missed a simple shot running into the open goal that night too.

Biggest WTF was Round 5 Freo vs Dogs, Mundy and Boyd both completely dominant with 74 posessions, 9 marks, 2 goals, 14 tackles, 13 inside 50's between them........1 brownlow vote....Bradley gets 4 goals a couple of them Joe the goose handballs....3 votes.....WTF

Not sure if mentioned. Cox v Goldcoast, clearly best on ground by a long long way.

Somehow Priddis got the three votes.

Cox wasn't BOG by that much. Priddis got 31 disposals that day to lead all comers. Also had a fair few inside 50s, clearances and tackles.

Looking at the stats, Cox also gave away 3 free kicks. That might have swayed the umps.

To be fair, Boydy can't complain too much. He tends to catch the ump's eye generally.

Your user-namesake on the other hand...

I couldn't get over how Swan got the 3 votes in the Pies V Lions game it was one his worst games for the 2011 AFL season Wtf???
Really? The form guide had him down for a guaranteed 3 that night with Clokey kicking 5 the only other player in contention

Steve Johnson missing out on three votes against Melbourne with 34 possessions, seven goals, five clearances, six inside 50s and eleven score assists. Laughable.
I remember watching that game, Stevie J was a monster. I thought for sure he'd get atleast 1-2 votes. Absolutely laughable that he was snubbed.

What really stood out to me, while Judd was very good last year, i thought he had a MUCH better season this year. Gets 7 less votes though:confused:
