The Green Bay Packers signed former Carlton and Collingwood ruckman, Chris Bryan, 6'5'' 210lbs, to a 3 year non-guaranteed contract. He will be competing for the punter position against another recruit Tim Masthay. The two will go head to head in the Packer's August training camp. If he Bryan makes it he will join 2 other former AFL players, former Collingwood and North Melbourne player, Sav Rocca, who punts for the Philadelphia Eagles, former Geelong Captain Ben Graham who punts for the Arizona Cardinals, and the Dallas Cowboy's Mat McBriar who played footy but not in the AFL and was recruited through the University of Hawaii.
Bryan was recruited through Nathan Chapman's Prokick Australia. Chapman, a former Brisbane and Hawthorn player, helps Australian players looking to make the NFL or College football as punters or kickers. According to the program they have placed 3 students to US colleges with full scholarships, a player to Arena football and now a student to the NFL.

Good luck to him, there is no doubt he had a huge kick on him, not sure about his attitude though. I wonder if they will be yelling out WOOF whenever he kicks the ball if he does get picked up.

He had a fundraiser for it at a function centre where I occasionally work. I encouraged the staff to donate generously so that we have one less ******** in australia. Hopefully he can make something of this opportunity. Will need more consistency than he showed with the footy though. For every beautiful kick, there were probably twice or three times as many shockers.

Is that straight from the Captain??? :)

If you see that as our future then we may has well of hung onto Cam Cloke

LOL

If we had hung onto Cam Cloke, no one here would be crying about it

Bryan could move, take a grab and kick

He was out of position in the ruck.

Big difference folks between being signed by an NFL club 6 months before a real game in the 2010/11 season is actually played......and actually making it on the park in a Packers jersey in a proper game.

Bryan is basically signed to do pre-season. He can be cut at any time and will be competing for a spot against various other punters including presumably their punter from last season.

Other Aussie's such as Jy Bond, Nathan Chapman and Jon Ballantyne have been in similar situations without ever playing an NFL game.

Good luck to him though and let's hope he makes it.

Looks as though he's not setting the NFL on fire either...

One opposition special teams coach described the former ruckman's performance at a Green Bay camp as "mediocre".

"From what everybody over there said (Bryan) was a good guy, but he was nothing special, and they named three, four or five guys that were better than him," the coach said.

"One of them was (Sav) Rocca's brother (Anthony), who actually signed with the Eagles but got homesick and left."

Writing in the Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinal, Bob McKinn described Bryan as "a 28-year-old Australian who has never played American football".

He quoted an opposition special teams coach as saying: "It just really seems they don't know what they're doing up there with the kicking personnel. I don't know what they're going to do."
