Toast Cowan & Hollands re-sign

I've never liked it when other clubs do this. Disappointed to see Carlton do it.

Feels like taking advantage of young players wanting to prove themselves in a new workplace. Not a fan.
I think its smart list management. At this point in time they are both unknowns, yet to play a game. The club have an inkling but they dont know that they will make it.
What if they dont? Then the club has been taken advantage of. Are you going to turn around and say that the managers took advantage of the club? Probably not, but it would be equally true.

Lets face it, any star that re-signs with any club, could get more on the open market as well. Is this the club taking advantage of the star?

What about the ageing player that re-signs and extends his career. No longer as god as he once was and certainly usually more injury prone. That is a much greater risk for the club. Is the player manager taking advantage?

The point is, players freely sign with a club and its a negotiation. The club has to provide the right atmosphere and culture to make it more likely that players will want to re sign for unders. That is the new way of management.

It also only takes one major injury to ruin a career

These 2 young men are locked in for 4 years now no matter what happens, that side of it is a win for them. Not just at any old club either, at the club they grew up supporting. Literally living the dream

Did the club get a likely discount? Yep. Tipping all parties are happy though

Agree. Having a 4 year contract gives confidence and reduces anxiety. This in itself has the ability to maximise performance, thus increasing the likliehood of a player coming on and performing at an elite level. If he does that then his initial contract can be torn up and a new one written, to reflect his level, thus increasing trust and goodwill to the club. If he doesnt come on , then a delisting is possible, or a standard contract awaits at the end of 4 years.

Just look at Kennedy as an example of what confidence can do. Came in with high expectations, got injured and was unable to meet the standards. Luckily we decided to rookie him and then , once confidence was restored and injuries abated, he showed his true worth. his next contract should be heavily in his favour.
