Wasn't it you just a few weeks ago saying how Ellard is too small and too slow to be an AFL player? That he was a replica of Blackwell?

Oh wait, i forgot it's TG we're talking about here... :o

btw, Joseph isn't a small forward.
I'm not the only one who has posted that Ellard was too small.

Ellard has clearly worked hard to put on some weight and was rewarded with another spot on the rookie list.

Blackwell has struggled to add any weight in four seasons.

I hope you feel good and like a hero.

Whilst I agree with you here TG, I believe the major query over Ellard is his pace, or lack thereof. Given that he has added some muscle to his frame since mid year, he may not have gained that pace that he needs to, to be a reasonable AFL player.

I agree that Ellard might not have the pace, but Nahas might also never have the size to be a reasonable AFL player.

Yet some are excited over Nahas because he turns it on in the VFL?

Like Blackwell...

Still want Yarran.

Hope Essendon take Rich so we aren't too tempted at the last minute. He'll add no new dimension to their already hard-working, hard-bodied midfield whereas we add the pace, class and goal-kicking skills of Yarran to complement our gun clearance players :)

P.S: Of course if it goes the other way round, we add Rich's bid body to complement our other clearance players along with elite footskills whilst Essendon have drafted a new Damian Cupido :)

there are plenty of players in the sanfl, vfl and wafl that are able to do the job of a second tier afl player.. blackwell was one of those.. so whats the point of continually drafting that kind of player, why not go for someone with some x factor that is a risk but may turn a high reward

I find it interesting that BUrgan, and others have Hill possibly going at 3, but if not then sliding to outside the top 10.

Tells me they can't split a lot of guys from 3-15. Could be a very interesting day.

Yeah, I agree. Like you say, Nahas does look good at VFL level, I would have some serious queries over his ability to make it at AFL level. His overall size just doesn't lend itself to play at the highest level.

However, having said that, given that he would be drafted around 80ish, this selection is speculative at best, and we do need another small forward to help out Betts.

Earlier in the year, there was talk of the "super top 6", which included:

Watts
Naitanui
Hurley
Ziebell
Rich
Hartlett

Since then, it has ballooned out somewhat, and I believe you could throw a blanket over the first dozen selections.

*cough* *cough*, you would have found one poster questioning this 'magical' top 6 way back then ;):o

Burgan was on SEN last night justifying his selections, and despite all his "whispers" and alleged discussions with recruiting managers, he had Hartlett going to Port because of the home town thing and Freo choosing between Rich and Hill.......and if Hill didn't go 3 then he would slip outside the top 10.

Just seems to be a bit silly TBH.

If Hill is rated highly enough to go at 3 under the "best available" policy then how could he slip outside the top 10 when other teams there are going to (supposedly) select other mids ahead of him (I.e. Ziebell etc).

Bring on the draft.

Completely over it.:thumbsu:

Just looking through our history of draft choices since 1994.
I must say our track record is not that great.
Picking no.1s is a no brainer and a can't lose situation, but below that we don't look too good at all.
Only Melbourne seems to have picked worst on comparison.

How long has W.H. been doing this for us?
Go back and look at the history of number 1 picks and you'll see this not to be true.

Players like Bower, Hampson, Grigg, Anderson, Browne, Armfield, Austin............I think our picks outside round 1 aren't too bad.

Fev was picked up in the 30's. Hoops at 70 something.......Betts in the PSD........not sure what you want TBH.

And your big brain realises that the rookie list will be expanded to eight next year...

Ellard showed up looking like this at training.

This was Ellard in June.

Nahas is older and skinnier than Ellard.

Nahas sounds like the type of player you would rookie list.

Joseph is quick, so I don't know why we need another small forward.

Especially if we take Yarran in the draft. :thumbsu:

So he has got a bit of a tan? Thats it, he's definitely ready.

Also he seems to strain alot when handballing, this could be a big issue. Must have soft hands, could lead to a bruise or two in the future.

I'd say that the purpose of the tan is to conceal the bruising ;)

That's how I would see it going, although there does remain quite a bit of speculation that Carlton will take Yarran.

Well just to show that very few people actually know what the recruiters are thinking a board member today confirmed that WH presented to the Board on Tuesday night - showed videos, "seemed" very impressed with Yarran and the Board "had the impression" that they had ordered him above Hurley but they could not be sure - the recruiting staff would not tell the Directors because they dont trust them to keep their mouths shut:D

Good to hear actually:thumbsu:

As I have said before eric, I just go on what I hear on radio, and what's reported in the press.
