Lurk3r and Phhht let's draw a line under your dispute now. If you want to carry it on do it via PM.

Oh and if anyone drops the 's' word again they will get a day off.

The mods can't be across every post in every thread, if it had been reported swift action would have been taken.

I think the club always knew his goalkicking was an issue. He kicked something like 50.80 the year before he got drafted to Port. The coaches have to work to his strengths, if he's not a born goalkicker than maybe look at making him a strong marking HF type (he was compared to a Justin Kositchske in the draft, and we know how long he took to develop).

all second rounders are speculative, especially when we'd have to draft another KPF to cover butcher's spot on the list.
We will hunt experience and proven ability this trade season. It will require throwing players on the trade table to do so. Port want and we want accelerrated momentum going into 014. We have very little to offer in draft picks and wont want to hand them up. This leaves FA targets and trades as our number one avenue. I know it is always said, but this year will see us very active early.

Throwing away a top 10 pick KPF for a speculative 2nd rounder, just as he is getting over his injuries and just before his first preseason under Burgess, when we have two other KPFs on the list, one 29 and one 19 is about as silly as it gets.

Nailed it. :thumbsu:

Burgo's presser about Dubai - Rucci asks him if he is expected to work miracles with Butcher. He explains about a double hip operations the issues with coming back from it and what condition he is in. He compares it to Vardy at Geelong who has gone thru the operations. He is pretty positive about Butch. Its about middle of the presser.

i am a little more nervous on butcher after listening to that presser

fingers crossed
Nah.
It might be the beer talking (i'm cooking good old fashioned Bratwurst atm and what doesn't go in the pan must go in the tum-tum :)) but go you big good thing and in the words of another great man, all doubters can go and ...
Anyone wants to bid for the future's No 1 fan, I'm in for it ... until I wake up tomorrow. :p

Remember that kid who kicked 6 goals in a game during his first season?

That guy will be back next year. Don't underestimate how much an uninterrupted preseason does for the psyche in terms of confidence and hunger. Instead of worrying about whether your body is going to be able to cope, how hard it all is...you start worrying about finding the footy and providing options for your teammates.

No need to run Butcher through the midfield in trial games just to get him up to speed. Get him in the weight room, get him fit and strong through the core...and watch everyone eat their words about how he is a 'failed pick'.

Write it down, take a picture, I don't give a ****. But mark my words, John Butcher WILL have a breakout season next year. I've even got the title of the toast thread lined up when it happens - "Back to the Future" :D

Yeah, you tell Janus.
On another note, I have more trouble with your name than Macca did with ManureIdid. I keep mistaking the J with a Y. :p

Re-watched the first five minutes of the St Kilda game the other day just to see Butcher take those two grabs and kick the first two goals. Boy, I was getting aroused in the opening parts of that match......shame he only added one more, albeit a crucial one late.

If this guy gets his mojo back, footy is going to be that much more enjoyable next year and that is saying a lot after the season we just had.

If John Butcher comes on next year I think we are a certainty for top 4.

This is assuming it isn't at the cost of Westhoff and Schulz being injured or some bullshit.

We have a healthy list and in 12 months time and another draft, our list will be fantastic. Ken knows what we need and i have the feeling what Ken sets his sights on, he usually gets. This time next year, i suspect our list will be one of the the best in the competition. Rome was not built in a day

Rewatching those set shots.. geez they look very awkward. I cringe a little just seeing them. The goal on the run is nice, though.

Another slant on Burgo backing Butcher

Port Adelaide turns up the heat on key forward John Butcher

As Port prepares to exit the AFL trade period without the key forward coach Ken Hinkley had on his wishlist, Power fitness coach Darren Burgess is backing a full pre-season program to be the key to 22-year-old fulfilling all his promise at Alberton.
Butcher looms as the major story of Port's pre-season campaign as the Power strives to turn the Victorian draftee dubbed by his team-mates as "The Future" into a present-day weapon in Hinkley's attack.
This would release Justin Westhoff to be a playmaker outside the forward arc.
"John has had some serious hip operations before my time here," said Burgess who returned to Alberton 12 months ago.
"But he is tracking okay.

Wait, what? There's a J?

I havnt read a lot of the thread but I'd like to put my two cents in. Butcher is an awkward player but I think he has a lot of value within our team. He can take a mark. His defensive actions are very good. His kicking is poor. But kicking has a lot to do with confidence and butchers confidence was obv down. Also from playing football myself I find core strength and my hips strength have a lot to do with my ability to kick. Which I believe is why butchers has been so poor. The stronger he gets thru that area the better I feel he'll get. Obv his awkwardness has something to do with his poor kicking as well but practice makes perfect. Dubbing butcher the future I think put too much pressure on him. His personality from the outside seems to be quite and reserved. Usually the type of personally that shys from the spotlight. Hopefully ken and Allan and Burgo can work some magic and make the future the present.

looks like he may need a few yoga classes to wake up the core muscles
