I don't mean to sound rude but I think Butch needs a psychologist more than a kicking coach. Some positive visualisation could help.
If only we could send someone from bigfooty back in time to silence the person who first called him "The Future."
"Hey John you're 'The Fu.." Slap.
"Don't say it!"

I didn't say he needed a kicking coach and if you look back over some of my previous posts I have been saying for a long time his issues are psychological - even as lately as yesterday. Not sure why you picked my post out for that comment.

He'll definitely be rookie listed at the very least. Ken basically conceded in his presser he expects him to "improve"..

In all seriousness if we get Dixon and he turns out to be a lemon and he's ankles keep him out, without Schulz we'll need butch for insurance.

This summer if Butcher can learn to kick and Lobbe can take a contested mark we'll be halfway to a flag.

I've been pretty much on the fence with Butcher. My view on whether he should stay or go can change from week to week. But seeing him yesterday, how despondent he looked after those early shanks, and riding that emotional wave with him as he took that amazing grab in the 2nd and lined up before kicking the goal, how can you not love the guy? I had little tears in my eyes as I watched the crowd go up as one, the relief sweep across Johnny's face, and his teammates come from everywhere to rally around him. How can you not love the guy?
He's so "human" it's ridiculous. He's not perfect and he doesn't pretend to be. He knows his flaws and he just gets on with it and lives with them as best he can. Viva la John Butcher. It will not kill us to give him another contract. Do it.
Brilliant post; do it indeed.

So insurance in case Dixon fails ? I just can't believe Dixon would be offered 3.5 mill if his ankles are that dodgy. Guess we just have to trust the club medicos and list managers to get it right.

Awesome mate ... Thanks again! Great sunny day, good match. Had a nice greeting and thank you from the club for you both too:

Sorry. My post was badly written.
I picked your post because I agree his field kicking is fine and he obviously feels pressure when in front of the goals.
My "I don't want to sound rude" comment was directed at Butch by suggesting it's a neck up problem.

I watched Butch during his warm up, had 4 kicks for goal from about 35-50 metres out on a 45 degree+ angle.

All four went straight through the middle. I can't wait for him to get his head right, as he has everything else going for him.

I noticed this as well.... Reading through your other posts, the guy seems like a legend and is too nice! Like all the good KPF's, he needs a bit of Campaigner about him.... How do you school that though?

got 4 missed one.. just.... i sit behind the goals warming up end... And to me when he has his set shots before the game his run up is less, walks straight in at the goals and kicks. when he marks in a game he makes a much longer run up and then walks around like buddy does than kicks. to me the two actions are very different from warm up to the match and the results show

Talk to him please, TSW. Use your magic on him and we might have ourselves the player we all hoped for.

I am convinced that Butch will get a one year contract unless our trading brings in a superior player. In that case, I am convinced that he will be rookie listed. I can't see a genuine delisting in all forms.

Butch has great hands and as a confident 2nd or 3rd tall forward, or a horses for courses type player, would provide serious match up issues for opposition coaches.

This may be controversial however I also think that he is a smarter footballer than what most people think.

Butch is as close a player to doing an 'airy' than I have ever seen but I am confident that he can improve in some capacity. Whilst Tredders was no where near as bad, his kicking was pretty erratic in his younger years and let's be honest, bad kicking is not kicking a goal and he is no orphan in that sense.

haha I'm doing my best mate!

So he kicks different at goals during the warm up to the way he kicks when the games on. If this can be noticed by supporters behind the goal then why in hell has nobody at the club noticed this. There is something very very wrong here, this has more to do than just kicking practice.

It probably doesn't help that every time he's out there it seems like he's playing for his footballing life. If there was less pressure he'd probably perform better and then be more confident as a result. I guess this is part of the argument for giving him a temporary gold pass to see happens.

id rather stick with butcher and schulz than get dixon. dixon is going to cost too much trade wise and salary wise. Butcher has an amazing grab on him, 100x better than dixons.

He drops too many marks he gets his hands on to have an "amazing grab on him." But at least he makes a contest when we have to kick the the ball quickly and long into our forward line. That's what happens when you play a 197cm KPF on a KPD and not a 179cm guy on that same KPD

So you actually have quantified this. Can you please enlighten us?

the improvement in butchers involvement in the contests has been amazing over the past 4 weeks. he has gone from looking completely lost, but giving it a go, to being a real chance every time the ball goes in there. Ive been watching gold coast games to get a look at dixon, and i just dont see the appeal. Sure he has had a few bags of goals, but in each of those bags at least 2 were free kicks. In particular look at the 6 v lions, and the 7 v north melbourne. There is prob only 2 marks where i thought he did really well.
