I like to keep calm and prepare for our next poor loss.

Yep. Agree.
I'm throwing in with the idea of the penny having finally actually dropped with everyone at the club.

A collective 'oh s...' moment so to speak.
Because if it hasn't, major changes will be made anyway, I feel. And I'm pretty sure brad has been informed of that.

ahhh....the nature of supporting a football club....they seduce us with a couple of press conferences and one good performance and we fall for it all over again. I understand it, I've done it myself a dozen times over the last 6 years. I'm determined that I'm not falling for it this time. Regardless of the performance over the rest of this year, a serious review of Brad's position must be conducted in the off season. It must take into account the entirety of his tenure, not just a one week snap shot.

Will the Fremantle board be consumed with a bye bye Lyon thread tonight, or do we have a monopoly on that type of idiotic vitriol?

We might just have the monopoly on idiotic comparisons by the look of it....what an absurd statement. Lyon has taken them to a GF and sustained success. He's also proven that he can do the same with another club. Brad has zero runs on the board and zero currency in the coaching marketplace. If you still think your comparison is reasonable - ask yourself. Which other club would employ Brad? Which other club would employ Ross? (hint - they would be lining up for Ross and running away from Brad.)

When our 'best performance of the year' according to Brad is beating the 11th placed team the week after we got rolled by 55points by the 18th placed team then we aren't going that well. That level of performance on Saturday was ok, nothing more, nothing less.

Getting so confused over this thread.

Good win. Coach actually does what everyone's been calling for.

People still complaining this time about some wording in an interview.

Jesus. If the Geelong win and the attitude of the players is something that's going to continue in the future brad can tell me unicorns are real for all I care.

Rather amusing that early on the big complaint was that brad was too good in the media and needed to focus more on the team and coaching. And now it's swinging that way people are even more pissed off.

Typical case of big footy stamping the papers on behalf of the club and being too stubborn to budge on their opinion..

Saintly one of the only ones able to express his opinion without desperate clinging to his past posts.

I'll be happy to be proven wrong by Brad, but it will take consistent ruthless performances at the selection table and by the players on the field. A one-week turn around does not satisfy me. We've been burned before....many times.

This is where I am at.

Been burnt too many times.

Too many false dawns followed by utter shiteness.

I want consistent tangible improvment through the end of this year into next whereby this time next yera we are primed for a top 4 finish after the H&A.

he does that he can stay.

He doesn't and he can find work elsewhere as we should get rid of him under the banner of, given more of a crack than anyone ever to coach NMFC.

I just laugh at all the posters who have been seduced once again by one performance against mediocre team who hasn't played for three weeks.

Everyone knows that we are ranked at the lower end of most statistics yeah? Our game plan is outdated and easily picked apart and unless that changes then expect more of the same inconsistency.

It's great he dropped LT and placed Boomer as a sub but thing is Boomer admitted on TV he wasn't sticking to structures so why has it takes so long to discipline him? Who does it take a shit load of shitness for the coach to react? He has to change and remain strong with discipline and set higher standards. Players should be dropped for not meeting expectations with structures and intensity.

Lets hope this is not another false dawn but I doubt it.

Really enjoyed the win. Probably the most coherent game we’ve played all year – although hard to tell where any particular opponent is at on the day.

I have to agree.

What I would really like to see is a couple of further examples from last weekend. Find a couple of players that didn’t do the team thing and remove them. Make these players understand in their gut that it’s not the result but the effort, application and consistency that matter. They need to be powerfully disabused of the notion that a good performance buys them weeks of playing time.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not sold yet.

I think this has gotta be his last chance, and if he takes this path for the rest of his time here, he has my support.

I want that on record so that I'm never considered 'anti brad'. Quite the contrary. I'd like him to succeed. I'm not hoping he fails.

I hope this is for real but yeah, been burned too many times so I'm not investing too much just yet. We'll see how the year pans out. Im not gonna go losing it next week if it goes pear shaped again, because I'm conditioned to expect that.

There is no comparison agree..

As for Lyon they were talking about him on 1116 yesterday. His strength is getting a good team into a G.F defensive pressure etc but he isn't a coach for a rebuild doesn't play many young players and left St.Kilda in the shit..

I tend to agree yes he is better than Brad more ruthless etc but i can't see Freo winning the Flag Imo he might get them into the G.F but he might lose his fourth G.F this year imo..
I might be proven wrong but Sydney,Hawks or West Coast are better and his teams are over defensive which i think is his weakness.

Fine lines. A bounce of the ball and a poster called correctly and he leaves St Kilda in the shit with two flags.

Do you play footy to constantly have a young list or do you play for success? I'd kill to experience Grand Finals again, even if they did end up being close losses.

No doubt agree as i said there is no comparison and yes it is a fine line(bou ce of the ball) but if he finishes he's coaching with 3-4 G.F losses that's what his record will show 0/4...

It would start as that, and evolve to a point where players are simply conditioned to perform (mostly) at a high level.

Perhaps. I think a premiership team has players that will do anything for team success, not because they are concerned about their own personal consequences.

Question: biggest upside we will get is not from Atley or Gibson going up a level, but from Cunnington and Ziebell performing like elite footballers week in, week out. Would you consider dropping them until they can consistently produce to the standard they have shown they are capable of or continue to allow them to go missing in patches?

I would more be looking at why we have so many players that show glimpses of elite ability but seem unable to turn that into elite performance week in week out. One or two would suggest it may just be the individuals, but there is a clear club issue in getting players through that glass ceiling. That's a footy department and coaching issue IMO. It may just be money, it may be something more, like standards not being set high enough and/or enforced.

**** teasing again - hard not to be seduced but that loss last week was so shit house I don't reckon I can come back

If they show that endeavour and Brad demonstrates that backbone again for the next month and a half, i'll be back in, fully engaged again.

Until that time, I'm probably like most here, seen it all before and unable to believe in this team not letting us down.

OK Brad. Whilst I am not "seduced" I am happy you made some bold decisions. I would have made different ones but hey, I'll take it. Now, in all seriousness I want the following:

V * - we must have a 10 goal win. I don't want to see "Essendon resurrect their spirit" headlines the day after the match with Daniher with his arms raised in the air after kicking the winning goal.

V The Bears - I just want one friggin win in Brisbane FFS. No holidays here. No Instagram photos with players in sunglasses at the beach the day before.

V The Salary cap cheats - this will probably be Boomer's 400th after he is rested for the Brisbane game. Must win by 6goals+ with Boomer chaired of in triumph not a poxy token gesture if we lose when everyone just wants to disappear into the rooms.

V The Tankers- hard slogging gutsy win in the wet in the G.

Gimme this and I'm back on the wagon.

I think we both can if players and coach extract the digit and are accountable

You are right.... There is no comparison.
Ross inherited a list at St. Kilda that had already played prelim football, had multiple top three picks from bottoming out under previous regimes and was already considered to be a very good team. At Freo when I think about it.... Yep the same thing happened!!!
Brad inherited a very average list that under it's previous regime had traded away its top picks for players of the ilk of Jonathon Hay, Jade Rawlings, Kasey Green, Lance Picoane.....
He then built that team for sustained success and played in a prelim last year. This year is far from over btw.

Two questions around Ross...
1) how did his "sustained success" work out at St. Kilda?? He left them as an absolute basket case, and it has taken years for them to even begin the recovery
2) how many premierships has he won? With Pavlich, Big Sandi and McPharlin coming to the end, if he doesn't win this year what then?? Does he bail for another ready to win team?

Lyon took over two sides who were considered to have talent but had underachieved, hence why Harvey and Thomas both got the arse.

The "how many flags has he won?" is such a crappy argument too, as if the quality of a coach is decided by the bounce of a footy or how straight his team kicks. His sides consistently win finals and he is renowned for high standards, two things which aren't exactly soaked throughout our club currently.

Scott has not built any side for "sustained success" and I'm genuinely unsure how you could say otherwise.

I get your point. Ross is mercenary and any who know me, will attest to my intense dislike for the style of play that he coaches. In fact I have been seen celebrating wildly at his GF losses. I have also been known to stab red hot needles into my eyes at the mere thought of watching Fremantle play. The fact that he ruins what should be the pure pleasure of watching Fyfe run around by playing such defensive stop/start crap drives me wild. He did leave the Saints in a poor position. He will most likely do the same for Freo.
What's undeniable though is that he's ruthless (we've been wishing our coach was.) He gets the players all playing for him (not sure our coach does.) They are manic in their pressure, accountability and intensity (I've seen a chocolate souffle with more intensity than our players on multiple occasions over the last 6 years.)
I sincerely hope that I'm wrong about Brad. I hope that he proves me wrong. I just long for the days when we were a ruthless, brutal, successful football club, both on and off the park. It's undeniable that we're not that and have not been that for far too long and BS deserves to shoulder his share of the blame.
