You can smell the fear, aprehension and confusion bought about by Essendons abysmal start to the season. I think what DAN24's saying is that the Ansett Cup is only important when you win.

Players not putting in, doing the hard things, injury toll mounting but the most critical factor that has been missed in Essendons first two games is that teams are no longer intimidated by Essendon. You could see it against Port and again last night against Geelong. Essendon tried on many occasions to physically and mentally pressure Port and Geelong but neiher of them buckled.

Geelong didn't even play that well. Essendon absolutely sucked on the night, and that's not an Essendon-bashing statement. Essendon's disposal was awful, and they didn't run forward in numbers the same as they did last year, which is what thrashed North twice.

Dan 24's feeble attempts to excuse Essendon's losses on the fact it's only Ansett Cup just go to show what a quivering little ball of insecurity he must be right now. I mean, come on Dan. You expected that the Bombers would at least make the semi's didn't you? Admit it. I did.
Let's face it, the Bombers cannot be as good this year as they were last. It is pure and simple. Last year everything went their way. Not an injury (only one to Hird but we have come to expect that), a dream run from the men in white etc, etc got them home. The drive they had towards the cup last year is obviously less, they are only human after all.
So this year shall be interesting. Just to see what sort of fearful, confused and sad posts Dan gives us for amusement, with abuse for any team that actually dares to think they could possibly beat his beloved Bombers.

Actaully it is about a million supporters. Probably about 900,000. Not every supporter becomes a member. Not every supporter goes tothe games either. North should know all about that.

I had to laugh at Greg Miller on TV yesterday. He was "trying" to push the Kangaroos membership campaign, and one of the membership categorys was "armchair supporter". Greg said: "If you support the Kangaroos but don't like to go to the games......like many, many Kangaroo supporters....."

I had to laugh at that. He basically said straight out, that most Roo fans aren't inclined to go to games. Pretty pathetic really. But pretty true too!

I'm not necessarily disputing the number that have a leaning towards the Bombers or barrack for them, but club membership is the only statistic that can accurately show many people SUPPORT a club.
Unless you interviewed every person in the world, you technically can't state an accurate number of people who say they barrack for any club, as it is only an estimate based on a sample. That applies if you ask 1000 people or a million out of the 19-odd million in Australia.
What CAN be measured statistically is membership numbers. Given that Grim ****** was way off with the other statistic he quoted (re:the club's debt), it's only fair that I consider his other statistic unreliable if not just made up.

You have a go at North fans for not going to the games, yet you defend the claim of Essendon having a million supporters and only 30,000-odd members, meaning 970,000 of Essendon's so-called supporters don't go to games either.

As others have pointed out, your logic does comes out of your arse.

But there is some truth in your comments.

1.Roo supporters are few,
but the percentage of those supporters that become members is the highest in the league.

2.Many of those members don't go to the games. Thats an indication that they buy a membership purley to support the club, regardless of whether they can attend or not.

We may be the smallest supporter group, but we defintely are the best!

The clubs that have the highest ratio of supporters to members are the clubs whose survival is threatened. The Bulldgos, North melbourne, hawthorn are all clubs with well over 20,000 members, which appears out-of-sync with those clubs total supporter base.

Carlton, for example have about 27,000 members whichis only marginally more than North, yet we all know that Carlton have easily thrtee times the support of North Melbourne. But Carlton supporters don't need to become members for the club to survive. The club will survive anyway. This makes Essendon's tally of 34,000 members remarkable. It is the highest Victorian membership, yet the club has no chance of ever folding in the near future. Yet, despite this, we are on target for 40,000 members anyway.

So, Roo fans are not the best. They are just "forced" to buy a membership otherwise the club will eventually go under. I'm sure if Essendons survival was threatended, our supporter-to-member ration would be the same as the Roos, Hawthorn and the Bulldogs.

As it is, we have the most members anyway.
