Bye Bye Nobles

I don't disagree, particularly with clearances out of the middle, but our inability to transition from D50 to F50 isn't something Cunners wouldn't fix.
Just looked and we have the most rebound 50s out of any team in the comp but the second fewest inside 50s. That's pretty ****ed.

There is no coach alive or dead which stops the beltings or these results. We need to get to the end of the year, heal and get everyone fit. Keep turning over the list. Radically overhaul our development.

I said it would get worse before it gets better. Our list profile is Cooked.
There might be. If Nobes is not our man there is possibly one coach that has the brains, experience and desire to take 'any' coaching job to get back involved in the game. Enter JAMES HIRD !!

Hird was the ultimate sign off on the greatest drug cheating scandal in Australian sporting history and has still taken no responsibility. No thank you. Hope his chocolate brand is doing well.

1. North Melbourne’s on the boil

The last thing David Noble needed with the advisor/assassin in the coaches box with him was a 100-point thrashing. Now, it would seem, and despite the hellish situation Noble inherited, the Kangas will start looking at solutions – if they haven’t already. Unfortunately for Noble, who might be a good coach under different circumstances, he is unable to generate morale, competitiveness and vigour into his team. Football is about faith, AFL great Leigh Matthews always says, and the Kangas’ faith in Noble must be testing. Clearly, Noble needs a miracle – and they do exist – but Roos also need a circuit breaker. Part of Geoff Walsh’s four-week review should include talking to current and past staff involved in the football program. Some of them will tell him Noble is a ferocious competitor, a my-way-or-the-highway kind of guy who is trying to set standards. Others will tell him that Noble doesn’t take everyone working in football along for the ride, that his determined and hellbent approach can be divisive. I had three telephone conversations in 24 hours, so goodness knows how many Walsh is having and what he’s discovering.

NORTH’S HORROR RUN SINCE ROUND 2 WIN
Round 3: 108 point loss to Brisbane
Round 4: 11 point loss to Sydney
Round 5: 68 point loss to Western Bulldogs
Round 6: 60 point loss to Geelong
Round 7: 50 point loss to Carlton
Round 8: 78 point loss to Fremantle
Round 9: 69 point loss to Port Adelaide
Round 10: 47 point loss to Melbourne
Round 11: 53 point loss to St Kilda
Round 12: 62 point loss to Gold Coast
Round 13: 49 point loss to GWS
Round 15: 57 point loss Adelaide
Round 16: 112 point loss to Geelong

2. So, who’s reviewing Ben Amarfio?

The issue is never just the coach and because Geoff Walsh is only reviewing the football department, it’s obligatory on the board to determine the success of Amarfio’s appointment. Already, the board must doubt his football knowledge because, after all, they brought in Walsh to do the football review and not give it to Amarfio. And if the working environment at the Kangas is as bad as the on-field performance, the Kangaroos might be forced to make two major changes. Former board member Mark Brayshaw missed the CEO’s job, which was given to Amarfio, and while Brayshaw is slaying it in the medical marijuana business, he could be tempted to return to footy if the Kangas wanted him. It wouldn’t be lost on anyone at North Melbourne that Brayshaw is close to best buddies with Alastair Clarkson, who just happens to want to coach next year and not wait for the Tasmania team to arrive. It’s only a thought, and probably a far-fetched one, but what about In: Clarkson, Brayshaw. Out: Noble, Amarfio. Of course, that depends on the review and what Walsh learns about the coach, which is exactly what after a 112-point loss? That his coaching is below standard, or he can’t communicate as he should, or he hasn’t got enough talent?

Only missing Rawlings.

The three of them are in the gun I hope

Robbo showing how much attention he pays to us when he said Noble was in the coaching box. :tearsofjoy:

Just looked and we have the most rebound 50s out of any team in the comp but the second fewest inside 50s. That's pretty ducked.
hard evidence, if it was needed and not obvious to anyone watching, of both the turgid shambles that is our ball movement and our truly reprehensible forward structure

edit: also worth noting that we're ranked 11th in clearances, which is actually an improvement on last year in both ranking and number - not sure Cunners would be making up 40+ points every week tbh

It's time. I thought it best to stay the course but we've lost three limbs and got a half empty box of bandaids in the cupboard. This is not going to turn around.

I really thought Noble had what it took but to see a goal the difference and know we were going to lose by 100...genuinely depressing.

I can't see the Blakey thread...please tell me he's up for it and will view it as an opportunity, not as simply a poisoned chalice.

I love Cunners. My favourite North player possibly ever. But I don't think we're falling down where his speciality is (clearances and contested possession), especially with LDU going up another notch this season.

We are falling down badly in Disposal Efficiency in the middle though.

I must have been out taking a whiz whilst CCJ replicated Carey.

Massimo would have. That decision is the final nail for mine with Noble.
Oh **** off, it’s a msd pick if you thing that goes even a hundredth of a percent to making any difference where we are at you are ****ing tapped

Judging Noble's coaching ability with this team is totally unfair. If Noble was coaching last night and Chris Scott was coaching us the result would probably have been the same.
The issue I have with AFL footy is when a team is not performing we sack the coach. I think North should probably give Noble a couple of weeks off from the club and put someone else in the role. That is what would happen in any workplace .
When I see Noble I can see a person who is under intense pressure. People will say if comes with the job but it shouldn't.

Generally second possession which wasn't Ben's go anyway as the primary extractor. Posted just after that one that we have the most rebound 50s and second fewest inside 50s of any team in the comp. It's our rebound transition that's putrid. As AnEmptyChair said, that's mostly on the coaches.

We're doing alright in the one part that Cunners helps most with.

Sentiment inside the club seems to have shifted tonight.

Original plan for him to finish the season and await the conclusion of the full football dept review may no longer be teneble.

Just a sad state of affairs no matter what way you look at it.

Just an update on this;

Sentiment has shifted, but it seems not enough; they're sticking to their guns and letting the Walsh review conclude at a minimum for the time being, apparently.

(I have no intel/knowledge of how long the Walsh review is expected to take.)

IMO in time, Massimo will prove himself to be in the top 20 of this calendar year's draft crop. I'm biased as he's from my area so I've seen a fair bit of him.

Having said that, I hope Dawson makes it and I'm disappointed that people are potting him for simply being selected.

What? I don't know what kind of work you do but in my field if you spent 16 consecutive weeks producing well below the expected standard you would be sacked without a second thought.

Throwing the players under the bus in an attempt to absolve Noble of responsibility for these results is a massive cop out too. How about the second half of last season when the team was actually somewhat competitive in most games, and then over the offseason when everyone was sucking each other off about being the best wooden spoon team ever? Was it unfair to judge Nobles coaching ability then with almost the exact same list?

No, Noble isn't kicking the ball for the players but he sure as shit doesn't appear to be making it easy for them at the moment.

I feel like a lot of people at the club are in self preservation mode.
Thus no one is taking any decisive action.

If and when Noble goes, it will mean sweet f*** all if Amarfio and Rawlings remain.

Brady is the one I could stomach staying (if we bring in an experienced GM for him report to), but in reality all three should really be going.

No Tarrant, Dumont, Cunnington, Atley from that list and not much of Hall either. Or Garner who played in four games for one win, one draw and two losses.
