Opinion Cam Guthrie - out of form? (and tangential Supercoach as guide to form discussion)

In your opinion what's a pass mark for a typical Guthrie game? What would satisfy you in terms of output?

I expect consistency. I expect that if he plays as a regular mid, he's not ranked 89th in the league for contested possessions and 94th for clearancess. I believe these are the two most crucial stats to come out of the midfield, he's poor at both. Very poor. If not, a much higher than average (for a mid) amount of metres gained, inside 50s, tackles, hitting a lot of forward leads... in general very effective with the ball. I'd say he's behind Motlop and Duncan in this regard.

If you want me to give you exact stat expectations, that's ridiculous.

I'd say that the way he conducts himself is feminine. The hair, the time spent on his looks in general, his socks, boots, lack of intent, lack of hardness, lack of physicality, etc.

It's hard to take you serious when you've indicated that supercoach price is a valid measure of a players output... no offence.

I never said stats are king but Supercoach value is based on a player's Champion Data stats over time. You probably don't realise how much time and effort goes into rating a players' effectiveness in a game but it's the single most accurate way to rate a player statistically. Maybe that's why coaches watch them like a hawk during a game...

No, they use 'Champion Data' stats, the same stats that are used to calculate a supercoach score.. It's really not that hard.

Seriously, if you're all questioning this so heavily regarding Guthrie.. go find the games where he got coaches votes and compare his champion data / SC scores in those games to his last 6, where he's clearly (to anyone with a clue) been underperforming.

Again, it's really not that hard.

I dont get what your logic is... the way one is manicured affects the way one plays? Id guess a high percentage of the young blokes playing these days are "metrosexual" types , so what .. Don Scott used to have a handbag..played like he had bricks in it. Put as much gel in the hair as they like as long as it doesn't make him run slow.

... and really just like a golfer that starts missing putts... has the putter changed? I have seen no recent change to what he has always been like.

Surely the grooming of someone has little to do with their hardness .. let alone the feminine comparison. Watch the Netball GF..and female has little to do with a lack of physicality. My bet would be in the next couple of weeks there will be females over in Brazil that would make me and many men look soft.
And as CE said , the recent expansion of the game means that that type of comment has seen its day as being derogatory. There would be some women that will play next year that Id be certainly happy to play like.

Make a case for him to be dropped on performance if you deem it , but deportment ? Gender? Surely you can do better than this Patrick.

Nice post, it's a shame you devoted the time to something I thought might simply poke some fun at some of Guthrie's special 'fans' on here.

Got it - so Luke Beveridge obviously had Stanley in his SuperCoach team which is why he refused to play with any defensive pressure against him.

While Scott has obviously spent the year trying to work out ways to get Motlop, Hawkins and now Guthrie into his side, which is why he has tweaked with their mat h instructions and then continued to play them through lean spells until his could afford to bring them into his team.

I think Guthrie has to play when we get Caddy back. It could be something as simple as Caddy and he having an understanding of their roles around the contest when they're both there. I think dropping Guthrie when we bring Caddy back in would be a mistake. We need both of them in there and our midfield unit working as just that, a unit, together as a team. Caddy is more important to our structure, I think, than given credit for.

Good point. Danger, Caddy, Guthrie and Selwood have synergy. This in turn helps Mots, Duncan and Bartel perform in their ideal roles. I wonder if Menegola and Selwood can fit in.

Yes spot on. Unnecessary, and I am no metro whatever.

However I would add that there will be many females in Rio in the next few weeks that will make many look hard.
