Can Hawthorn succeed while ignoring the elite end of the draft? - Part 2

Do you really think North have been tanking? Why bother sacking 2 coaches and bringing in Clarkson if North don’t want to be competitive?

TBH another year at the bottom wouldn’t hurt North, bring in Harley Reid and another first rounder with Ports pick, but I don’t think North are deliberately tanking. The place has been a mess.

The Hawks offloading their better senior players just reeks of tanking. I don’t mind it tbh, it is what it is. Hawthorn haven’t had much access to top end talent for years so I spose they had to do it or they were just destined to sit mid table and never make any ground.
If Hawthorn are apparently tanking, North for sure have been

I don't think either sides are or have been, its just a ridiculous statement to make

Not tanking, only really moved out Mitchell and O'Meara, and we were the 18th midfield in the comp

Cant get worse in that area

Because even North realize that going for a 6th year is a bit too obvious.

$#@ off with your accusations of tanking, you're in no position to point the finger, and clearly don't understand Hawthorn culture.

Can anyone enlighten me as to WTF the Hawks were doing in that trade with Sydney ..?!?!??

Barring a miracle I think it’s fair to say best case in 2023 Hawks finish 12th.

So they’ve traded 27, F25 and F43 for pick 18. And F25and F43 in what is touted as a very deep draft.

Sydney played them on a break. I’d be furious as a Hawks supporter. Weddle needs to be a superstar to justify this trade

You seem to have made your mind up on the trade so zero point of trying to change your mind

But still having the dogs 2nd next year keeps us with picks in each round next year with a top 20 f/s next year we will most likely get 3 kids inside 30

There you go

F43 will likely be eaten up matching McCabe (seems like consensus so far is he would be bid around 15th-30 as a FS) so it's a nothing pick.

We traded 27 and anywhere F19-F25 for a player we rated at minimum as the 14th best player in the draft.

Super athletic and tall utility. Could be anything. I don't think many Hawk supporters are furious. You gotta pay quality to get quality.

Weddle was going at pick 18 regardless. Whether it was Syd or GWS.
We deemed we wanted him more and paid the price.
We still have picks in all rounds of next year's draft. It was good business.

Need to change the thread title to “Can Hawthorn succeed while not being as continuously shizen as North to grab multiple top 3 picks?”

Seems like that’s the argument that North fans want to make in every thread now.
Nope because you are Hawthorn.

Your team is as deluded as Russia under Vladimir Putin LoL

Tanking ……. embarrassing and an insulting suggestion to the vision of one of the greats of the game in Sammy. You will not find one Hawks supporter disagreeing with his approach of moving on players who don’t fit into his plans or the game plan he is trying to implement. There are plenty of sheep out there in the media and BF nuffies suggesting that there will be a lack of experience/leaders at the club due to the recent departures …….. very naive to think that Sam has not assessed and planned for this. He will have a strong belief and give players belief in that 23-26 yo bracket that they have the characteristics to step up and fill this void. May not see it in Rd 1 but I’m sure we will see it by Rd 23. Very optimistic next year and if we can squeeze as many wins as last season with a list average age of 22.1 yo (couple years younger than the next youngest club) it will be a massive achievement and show that the future is bright. I think a lot of you guys need to worry about your own club more than a club that has plenty of GF DVD’s in colour!

13 must be stinging still

To be so close and still fall short and a decade later still not having gotten close, must be tough

But hey, maybe next decade

Such a silly post

When a Freo fan labours the point about building unsuccessful lists and failure we should all probably take note.

After all, they are the experts.😂

Please tell us more JamesCroft89
Ironic posting that. Meh.

Saying that. Happy with freos current coach in Justin Longmuir.

Many fans hope he gets the dockers men's their 1st premiership. Would be an epic achievement if he gets one by 2025.

Saying that. Freo made finals in 2022.

I won't be surprised if freo repeat their finals run of 2012-15.

So that means finals from 2022-2025

Not really. Funny you mention that.

Ask most Freo fans, we are more gutted with the 2015 prelim final loss to you guys in WA than the 2013 grand final loss in the MCG.

If you don't know why, go watch the 2015 prelim final again.

Geelong were half a game away from a premiership lmfao, if anything they are proof it is possible if you can get it right.

The pot shots at Clarko that you continue to go to are fascinating, we as a club decided to attempt to build on the run. Yes it failed and we are starting again, s**t happens.

After coming off a decade near the top I have no problem with the club taking the gamble, it seems like you want this to hurt us/the club.

All that matters to me now is that we identify that we need to start again, which we clearly have.
Good for you then

I reckon we have the nucleus of players to take us forward. Given how young we are the next stage is hitting trades/free agency bringing back players such as Serong back home to Vic.

Scully hasn't been a gun for us, but he's been better than 'done'. Patton has been with us for one season.

I understand that as a Carlton fan you've learnt to make your own fun these past 25 years, so I'm happy to provide you with some entertainment value.
Well you are more defensive than Ross Lyon defensive tactics going by this post. LoL

Nothing I have seen so far inspires me the Hawks will not be somewhere in positions 6-11 at seasons end, but they did improve significantly over last season.

As I keep saying, this list will peak 2022.
Im still far from convinced the hard rebuild which tales 7yrs minimum and more likely 10yrs is anything but a risky move
Delusional drunken tirade post right here lol. Where did you finish in the 2022 season? LoL

Old boy and i were discussing this - is there some 4d chess move going in that us mortals cant see?

Hawks loved Weddle, so they paid the price. His testing at the combine was top notch.

He’s a 192cm utility who played midfield until he grew 20cm in 2 years.

As others have explained above, the McCabe father son pick next year would’ve eaten up our second if his rating remains as a late first rounder, so this way we at least get another 1st rounder inIn 2022, and then in 2023 we get to use our first pick(top 5 pick) and then get another first round equivalent when we match a bid for McCabe.

Not really 4D chess.
