Not sure what Hawthorn supporters are so chirpy about. They've gone from top 4 to bottom 8 in one season, and they still have a few retirements left to come yet.
I get that they've found some good young players in Lewis and Worpel, but they still have a lot of work to do to get back to being competitive.

In all likelihood they miss this year, bet on it at the start of the year. Mind you I backed Demons top 4 so you win some you lose some.
Interesting to see what the predictions are for 2020 though, depending on off season list changes and recruitment, I'd still have them missing finals next year, pending who they bring in/lose.

You were in control for 15 minutes to start the game but like a mid tier team you were not able to convert your chances. (As an Essendon fan I know this feeling)
After that you were forced into hard shots on goal by Brisbane (with a few exceptions) whereas you let them walk into to easy goals down the other end.

They are relying on the cache of Clarkson to get free agents to come and save them.
Good luck with that, up to now all they have been able to attract are perennially injured mercenaries .

Worpel is a limited football, Mitchell Lewis hasn't really done much, and that's about it.
The fact that Clarko has somehow made it look like they are an attractive destination for free agents has been the best marketing spin I can remember.

Worpel is top 6 in the league in clangers, and at the same age, Cleve Hughes averaged more goals per game than Mitchell Lewis

This year the Hawks will have elite draft talent and free agents. They might just jump back a little faster than you all would like.
Cats at the Cattery I am nervous about, simply because WC historically plays poorly there.
At the MCG, it is whichever team turns up on the day.
The only opposition team I don't want to play is Brisbane. They have that young team confidence of having a free hit (Hawthorn 08, Dogs 16) and like WC have a lot of scoring power. Unlike WC they are consistently strong at contested ball and midfield pressure. Even if WC do as Hawthorn did and find a way to restrict their supply, they could still win.
not sure what any of that stuff that happened historically has to do with the reality of the present.
This time last year Tom Lynch was a hawk, sanity prevailed.
You will get free agents no doubt, you have TPP room, the question remains, will they be like Scully and Wingard? IE limited

West Coast are in the box seat for the premiership imo. Settled game plan, mature squad without being too old, reasonable run with injuries, MCG holds no fears.
Brisbane do look good, but you do wonder whether theyād be overawed.

Over that period, how does the premiership strike rate compare to the rest of the teams? eg the strike rate is 1/18 in 2018 and 1/16 in 2004
you mention as strike rate of 3/25 which is 1/8 ? not sure if I've interpreted you correctly (honestly)

History is everything. It is the reason the Hawks are where they are. Winning has a price and the Hawks are currently paying it.
The question is will they have to pay as much as others have had to?
