I believe with one more bumper draft Essendon is well poised for sustained success. I am truly impressed with the talent we have. What saddens me is that we will not peak with Lucas or Fletcher around. Lloyd I pray is around for one more crap. Legend of the club:thumbsu: So many good times he has brought us fans. I will cry the day he retires.

What we have missed out on as you said was the numerous high picks. But we have had our fair share. 4 picks in the top 7 over the passed 4 years. Not to mention the plethora of 1st rounders we have in the form of Winderlich, McVeigh, Monfries etc.

I think in 2011 we can have a genuine crack at the flag. I am quietly confident. Injuries to our youngsters could prevent many of them realising their potential.

Now here is a post worth reading. A genuine, honest assessment. No spelling errors or grammar mistakes (unfortunately all too common on the Essendon board...). Carlton has three number 1 picks, but we had to suffer some almighty agony to get them. To anyone who thinks we tanked, just go back and look at our lists. They were shithouse. We didn't stand a chance of winning. Now we do. And we will.

Essendon will move slowly up the ladder from 2010/11 onwards, but next year I really believe you will take a nosedive. You need to sort out your injuries and maybe it will happen then. The amount of injuries you have seemes to suggest a poor training regime/system is in place at Windy Hill.

You've added Judd, nothing more, Kruezer could be a champion... has done nothing, looks like any other lanky 199cm 18 year old (which is fair enough).

As for the amount of injuries, we've replaced our high performance coach with Stu Coramck (WCE high performance manager), in conjunction with the School of Human Movement and Sports Sciences (University of Ballarat) we are creating an applied sport science research program leading to best practice high performance initiatives for the club and we've introduced Denise Jennings to the club in the full time role as physical preparation assistant and Benita Lalor in the part-time role of performance dietician. These appointments I believe will help or eradicate several of our soft tissue injuries.

Not forgetting to mention our poaching of Alan Richardson from Collingwood as an assistant/youth development coach. This I believe will help us move quicker up the ladder.

We now have the most professional football department in the competition.

It's our youngsters versus Calton's youngsters, time will tell who is better, no point arguing as you'll no doubt base them on the number they were drafted.

Here's a quote from Livenews.com about our injuries

'Bower's injury is yet another body blow to the Blues defence, which has had major problems stringing together a settled unit.

The Blues have had at times been without first choice fullback Michael Jamieson (shoulder) centre half-back Jarrad Waite (suspension), tall defender Bret Thornton (knee), running half-backs Andrew Walker (shoulder) and Ryan Houlihan (hip) and stopper Jordan Bannister (hamstring).

"It is hard to settle a back six when a few go down," coach Brett Ratten said.'

At the time, around midseason, we thought Bower was gone for the year. He was back by round 18. Houlihan was gone until round 20. Walker round 18. Bannister the whole season. Thornton for many, many weeks. That's basically our entire backline.

Carlton cannot use the injury excuse. You had all your good players playing, and you had most of your backline playing at some point.

Anyway, to get back to my point. You can't do what the Hawks did because you haven't bottomed out yet. You had more wins last season. You are on the way down, not up. Take into that the retirements coming up and its a nasty looking picture.

I'd say three years of early draft picks is bottoming out.

the problem with the bombers is to many aboriginals and hangouts who will not put there head over the ball (except maybe mcveigh). go back to playing hard accountable footy like hawks or cats. i believe they cant do what the hawks will do as they will always be behind carlton (cheaters) in development. also i think the coach was the wrong choice because he came from a club with a losing culture so i think the rot has already set in

Why hasn't this been deleted yet. Did you work in recruiting for H

Don't get cocky. You're on our board - keep it constructive. Almighty agony? Goddard and Wells wouldn't have made your team much better last year.

Why would we take a nosedive when we have Slattery, Ryder, Reimers, Dempsey, Houli, Winderlich, Lonergan, Davey, Gumbleton, Jetta, Monfries, Watson, Stanton, Laycock and Pears all young and all in the first team?

That's very true. Time will tell. I can see from the posts on this forum that Essendon's youngsters are highly rated. It will be an intersting few years for our clubs. I am certain that we will meet in the finals in the next few years.

O dear!! the question this thread ask is "can we manage what the Hawks do?"

not are we doing a Carlton!!!

Carlton have several good young players, Kreuzer is a good player as is Gibbs and there no doubting the brillants of Chris Judd and Brendon Fevola. those four would get a game at Essendon!

Eddie Betts was outstanding against us in round three and they have several other young players who may or may not turn out to be good players but the Carlton list looks okay!

One thing I find Interesting about Hawthorn, is I've heard several people close to that club say they are still a few players short!

And the comment from the Hawthorn person about the background of Essendon players, mate just remember one thing Michael Long, Mark Williams and Lance Franklin all have something in common.

That the point. The point is you chase every player that gets traded. The argument wasnt about getting good players. You buy your premierships.

Understand now? you buy all the good players. dont train the young ones like hawthorn has done to get the 08 premiership

Sure Carlton have great players. You buy your bloody premierships though. Cos youve got a rich president. We bring up our players and train them.

Your mob is interested in every single player that is traded. then they will retire in a short time and you will bottom out again. Ex. Judd, you pay him the world. Warnock, your chasing. Interest in O'Keefe, Cousins, Kerr.

my point proven.

Didn't you guys have a dip at Judd as well? You can hardly blame us for succeeding. You're looking at O'Keefe-sounds like the same group that we're interested in. Assess the market and see what's out there. Drafting and development still needs to be at the core of the clubs future

We're lookin at O'Keefe. thats it. Not EVERY player.
