Seriously, what infuriates me is that when teams lose you have those 1 or 2 people saying it was a "brave loss", "we had injured players." It's very annoying. (Thank god majority of wce aren't sympathetic). But the good teams such as hawthorn are able to play well without some key players.

Losing games is unacceptable and should never be used as an excuse. If eagles lose without mcgovern; I will still be pissed and I will not give any sympathy.

There is no such thing as "brave losses." If you can't steal a game that's just down right horrible.

Big losses are more "brave" then close losses.

Ridiculous post. If a team missing ten quality players almost gets over the line against a full strength opponent they have every right to be called brave and to remind people that they were missing key players. Nothing pisses me off more than when a team wins against a severely depleted opposition and their supporters carry on like they have just won the flag. Context is everything.

So childish. There can be brave losses in all kinds of circumstances- including football games. A boxer could go twelve rounds with a broken hand and lose on points-a brave loss. An army could stand and fight to the death against overwhelming odds-a mighty deed and very brave loss. A person may do all that is in their power to over come a debilitating disease but still die. Is their courage diminished or irrelevant because they failed to achieve their goal?

No, it's just an overused phrase and is a constantly used by the footy community when people enter the "I'm more emotional than you" contest. Look at any thread on BigFooty about a returning injured player and count how many times "brave" is posted.

Sometimes a clearly inferior team, say on the bottom of the ladder, fights really hard and narrowly gets outclassed.

Or a top team may not take a game seriously at all and get upset by a cellar dweller.

Both are losses, but they're different. There's degrees of things. A team can be gallant in defeat.
