Rob shirley must be shaking his head. He was delisted and was twice the tagger vb is and didn't butcher the ball anywhere near as much. I don't blame the players, but the culture of our club is demonesque.

Watching Hodge's match tonight, he only had 15 touches but jeez he was almost BOG by some of the work he did, compare that to Van Berlo's 15 touch games and it's chalk and cheese.
You need your captain lifting the team like what Hodge does, it's such a vital ingredient to a successful club.

Wait a sec. Hodge is allowed to, and does, play wherever he feels he is needed. This is so far from the roles VB is given it is totally skewed to compare the two. The whole - captains-have-to-be-the-most-inspirational-player is overrated.

I think your right. Captain does not need to be best player, but they must have ability to influence the game. Hodge can get away with putting himself all around because he is a good enough player.

The Captain needs to be assured selection each week. Whether you like VB or not it is hard not to argue that he would be right on the edge of selection if he wasn't captain (like D- Mac is). That is simply not good enough for a captain.

He wasn't in our worst 5 players - Wright, Jaensch, Jenkins, Thompson, Mackay and Talia were all worse.

Knock the bloke that came on mid way through the last quarter as a sub. Good one

Wright was subbed for Jaensch so they basically count as 1 -and I agree they were both bad, Thompson was horrid but then comes VB - Jenkins a close fifth. Mackay and Talia were both better than the super runner.

And even going on your count was VB next, so seventh worst??

If Jenkins kicks straight he is better. Did clunk a few marks. VB did stuff all

VB has had 1 or 2 good games all year where he would be in best players. Not good enough for a captain. It is that simple.

He's free to question and attack my opinion/position. Suggesting that I haven't watched the game, when I clearly have, is flat out insulting. It's a strawman - building an argument based on attributing a position I don't (and never have) hold.

Look, I enjoy a good vB defense session as much as the next guy, but this is just not a good move.
Since when has using a strawman (not that it actually is a Strawman from what I can tell) been worthy of infraction?

Anyone who watched VB yesterday would know that he didn't curtail any influence of either Swan or Pendlebury.

Either that or we're all gonna get a card by nights end for having a differing opinion.

Dangerfield I think will be captain next year. VB is starting to struggle to hold onto his spot in the 22 and might need to just concentrate on his career over the next few years. Everyone loves VB he leads by example but if your no garuntee in the best 22 each week the club must look at other areas. Sloan would be my VC

I hope he comes back and isn't scared off by having to explain calling VBs first half shocking and then spending the next day defending it. At least when he changed his mind on Smiths game last year it was after a couple of weeks but this is a new record.
