My dad went to a dinner with sando, chapman and some other non afc people and he told me sando said pretty much everything but vb wont be captain next year. I cant remember the rest of the conversation exactly, but i think there was more of a lean toward sloane as captain over danger

VB does.. and you're right about Swan not being quick - which is why VB was much more effective against him than he was against Pendles.

The players who play against him say he's super quick. And you're suggesting Pendlebury has pace? l to the o to the l star wars.

Other clubs and their supporters have no respect for VB either. He's pretty much universally regarded as crap and a baffling captaincy choice. It's going to be pretty telling when he is delisted not long after relinquishing the role.

Is the issue this year with VB and his inability to quell the influence of our opposition's best midfielder? He hasn't had a problem in the past with endurance but he seem to be very unfit. In previous years he could run games out with ease, this year he seems to run out of puff as each match progresses. We seem to start really well and fade out at the end of each quarter. Fitness is the issue

Well lets look at this another way. What possible positive is there for VB retaining the captaincy? Those who are defending him in his worst season since a 20 year old kid might have trouble answering that

The Captain needs to be assured selection each week. Whether you like VB or not it is hard not to argue that he would be right on the edge of selection if he wasn't captain (like D- Mac is). That is simply not good enough for a captain.

Hang on. It was good enough for cassisi.

The intangible impact the man with the captain's title turning the ball over in diabolical circumstances to hand the opposition momentum is too much to bear. In business, it is proven that naming and reiteration of goals improves performance without any other action taken. VB, simply by being captain, hurts the side more when he pulls the sort of crap he did in that last quarter.

He is such a terrible player. Inconsistent tagger and no other skills.

Take it to the 'it's time for trigg to resign'' board. No place for that here. Even if you did substitute names to protect the guilty.

We have discussed this before and it's interesting. While Dangerfield would be the biggest on field inspirer, Sloane would be second best. If we didn't have the luxury that is Danger, Sloane would be the clear choice and would be a fantastic choice. There might be a lot of off field leadership and also un-noticeable on field stuff that Sloane might trump Dangerfield in. Who on here really knows?

I'm really interested so see what happens next year with the captaincy.

Isnt the fact that Pendles had 19 possessions on VB the fact you should accept which shows Pendles smashed him? Yes he played even better in the second half but that doesn't discount the fact he easily beat VB in the first. Just keep repeating 19 possessions and you might understand that is a bloody good half of football.

Seriously EC, while VB has been well down on form earlier this year, his recent efforts as a tagger have been many times better than you and a few others have given him credit for. Fair's fair and some of the rantings in this thread have been biased distorted garbage, ignoring facts.

Two extracts below from an article on the site "Dream Team Talk", based on facts give VB the credit for his recent performances as a tagger. These articles are written by a non-Crows person going to a very wide audience, so are written objectively, rather than by a vitriolic Crows supporter non-stop lashing of his current whipping boy, irrespective of facts.

"Once considered ‘untaggable’ and undeniably the best midfielder going around at the Pies, Swan now finds himself helping out up forward and proving ineffective against the Van Berlo tag. As a result, the level of trust that we have traditionally put into Swan has to be reconsidered – clearly he’s a beast on-song, but he’s shown this season that he can be thwarted tactically.
Working in his favour, however, is the damage that Pendlebury (153) caused when let off the leash against the Crows. He scored 94 DT (including two running goals) in the 2nd half after the Van Berlo tag flipped to Swanny, but the most telling indicator is the scoreboard: In the first half, the Crows tagged Pendlebury and trailed by 4 at half time. Once the tag switched to Swan and Pendles was allowed to run free, Adelaide lost the half by 23 points. Coincidence?"

"Adelaide bleed points in the midfield. Monster scores to Pendlebury and Prestia goes to show that you can damage them in the engine room. However, it is worth noting that Swan and Ablett both had mediocre scores (by their lofty standards) thanks to one man: Van Berlo. Gaff was the player tagged against the Eagles, and just managed 43 points.
So what does this mean? Well, if Van Berlo tags you… you’re screwed. But if you’re anyone else – enjoy the party! So who attracts the wrath of VB in the next few weeks, and who gets invites to the point-fest?"

Surely it has to be Dangerfield as captain next year, with Sloane as his VC?

Dangerfield is the heart and soul of the club both on and off the field. When people think Adelaide, they think Dangerfield.

I have no doubt about his capacity to take on the role because to all intents and purposes, he's doing that role now. He's the spiritual leader on the field, and his is the voice you hear constantly off the field.

VB's spot in the team would then be seen to be decided by performances, eliminating any argument as to whether he only gained selection because he is the skipper. The removal of the responsibility of being captain may also see a lift in his performances, having only to concentrate on what HE delivers on match day.

I agree. We should all await someone else's judgement and then take that position. A forum full of vaders. Thanks macca. I'm a lot more impressed with your opinions than some paid hack who probably hasn't watched the game. Maybe roewy.

macca23 I've not had a crack at VBs recent tagging efforts so you might want to reconsider. I've previously said he did well on Ablett, he also did well on Gaff. My beef against WC was not with VB but not tagging Priddis and that was directed at Sando. I've also said he did well on Swan. But I do object to stating he did well against Pendles based on dream team points. Pendles beat him easily, 19 possessions in a half can't be ignored, yes Pendles was better in the second half but assuming he just maintained his first half form would have been a season high disposal count. I haven't let it go because we have Lord Vader calling VBs effort against Pendles shocking and then 8 minutes later criticising posters who effectively said the same thing.

VBs spot in the team is as a tagger, I've been calling it for it all year and its driven me nuts that's its taking so long to do.

Much happier with the rational thought processes in the above, EC, although I still disagree re Pendles. You can only limit the damage this champion of the game does, not eliminate it, and many of his disposals in the first half were under pressure and as a result not overly damaging.

In the 2nd half he was allowed to roam like an unregistered dog looking for a root, and with his 20 something disposals without pressure, he destroyed us with his elite disposal.

Huge error by Sando and the boys, which turned the game on its ear. This bullshit about team defence instead of tagging doing the trick is rubbish. All it means in practice is that nobody picked him up.

THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me and my mates were screaming it from the stands...put someone on Pendles!! Why didn't they run Sloane or Smith or even Laird on him. But this has been happening all year long. Too slow to pick up on the fact that someone is killing us and not doing something about it. SANDO TEAM DEFENCE IS NOT WORKING!

Pick this week is that we don't tag Selwood and he has 30 touches in a half before we do something. VB is a good tagger and good at clanger kicks as well.

Reckon we'll be much better tactically with Bailey back in the box to help guide Sando....

I pray it is so. We have looked like bumbling amateurs since the bye. Pisses me off that we have had to suffer for the Dees mistakes...but that's water under the bridge now.

mmmm I hear what you're saying and I too want Danger to be captain. But I'm just being objective in saying there are things us outsiders don't know about and if it came down to that, I could live with it.

Sloane or Danger as Captain would be a significant improvement on what we have now
