Doubt we'll bring in a bloke who hasn't kicked a ball in anger in 12 months. I could see us possibly bring Vardy in to fill that role, although his form in the VFL doesn't warrant it. The guy is just lucky those who are play a similar role are either coming back from injury (Clark) or vastly inexperienced (Buzza). I'd be more inclined to try Henderson up forward myself.
Take our best defender by far out of the defence? No Thanks.

Vardy? You're kidding, he is in such ridiculously poor form it would be dumb to play him.
Stupidly put him in against GC and gave absolutely nothing despite our dominance which is true to his current form.
Pathetic performance against Carlton who played 20 men, we have issues but Vardy is no solution atm.

I also think it's time to start pointing the finger in Scott's direction again. Certain players refuse to chase yet keep getting selected... if he didn't tolerate it they'd be playing at VFL level.

Is Chris Scott the sole member of the Selection Panel?

Yep Vardy very ordinary against GC. But how did Hawk and Kersten go?

One thing I noticed, sorry if this has already been brought up, was the lack of cover for the ball carrier. So many times a player would hand-pass off and not lay a shepherd, not protect the person they had given the ball to. I saw a few times a Carlton player running past the person who had just given off the ball to assist in corralling the person who just received it.

A few times along the wing, the ball was moved from one player to a next, but then the receiver was just surrounded because the person giving off the ball did nothing to protect them once they had received. Almost as once a disposal is made, they act like their job is done. At times, just stopping or slowing down to a jog and watching.

Geelong's forward line is set-up as if it's the 1980's. Hawkins continues to insist on wrestling and 9/10 times somebody else gets involved in the contest and Hawkins doesn't even get to the ball.

Motlop is hopeless outside the forward 50.

People talking about Bews and Ruggles obviously didn't see them outrun all day against Collingwood. I wouldn't be surprised if Henderson was faster than him.

Selwood has been tagged out of the game too easily and lets the taggers get to him, giving away frees or playing for them, while Dangerfield runs 3x as fast with the ball as he does when 'chasing an opponent'.

Blicavs has been figured out by most opposition teams, went statless after half time. When he's tagging the opposition are now exploiting his inability one on one and not letting him use his run. If the coaching staff can't sort that out, I can't see why he gets a game, especially with Scott Selwood due back later in the year, his days are numbered.

The main thing that stood out over the last 2 weeks was the wide spread of the opposition completely un-challenged by Geelong who insist on going predictably backwards or straight through the middle of contests. Teams have figured out Geelong at stoppages and Geelong's mids refuse to chase the spread, all being drawn towards the ball.

Lots of problems for Geelong, but none that can't be turned around.

very fair assessment - this week should see Hawkins, Motlop, Bews, Ruggles, Selwood, Blitz & Danger all back in the two's ............

Why are we playing down the wings so much? It's actually really crap to watch I hate it.

I'm not sure whether its player laziness or the coaching strategy that has got us pinned to the flanks. Surely Chris Scott can see our lack of work rate on the spread is absolutely putrid. Sydney and the dogs will run us off our legs, Everitt yesterday worked as hard as I've seen a player. He was outrunning some of our quickest just on sheer desire to win the ball and create an option.

Brendon Bolton is turning out to be a pretty solid coach. It was no fluke the wins Hawthorn notched up when Clarkson was ill.
The guy is obviously a pretty gifted individual.

It's quite remarkable to think Carlton are sitting 11th only one game + percentage out of the current top eight.

Hes made a good start , but he is in his honeymoon .Much like Hinkley was 2 years ago and its all gone south since than .

At least Freo are still winless. :thumbsu:

Some solace.. not a lot really, but momentarily...

GO Catters

I didn't watch the game, but been frustrated for the whole afternoon when checking the live stats on my phone. Eventually for me, 19-points looked an acceptable margin.

Not quite sure, I have an impression from the begging of the season. Blicavs is mis-placed (sorry my English). Actually I think along with Selwood, Blicavs does have a steel mind and big heart, but not been used well. Some guys do have big hearts.

Anyway, as I said after the lost to Pie. There has been some issue for the altitude.

We put in ok effort it just seems ugly going forward, it has all year. I believe in footy jargon that means our structures are either poor under pressure or not adhered to.

We seem like a blunt instrument at the moment we can swing hard and do some damage but it's not like a hawthorn sharp sword that goes straight through opponents when they go to top gear.

I agree with this. The effort itself seems to be there, but it seems to take a lot of energy to do simple things. There are no easy goals and even putting together a nice passage of play of three disposals seems difficult!

We seem to be crying out for a CHF while simultaneously having too many talls down back. Given this, how is that Henderson hasn't been at least tried forward (even for a nano second) given his ability to do just that?
It might just quicken up the back half (making room for a small), and offer a bit more structure up front.

Intensity, organisation and the exposure of our weaknesses were the key factors in our defeat in my view.

Intensity is a mindset and therefore is relatively easily fixed. We've shown this year we can be focussed and relentless. The Blues showed us up in that respect yesterday.

We've also shown we are well organised when not under direct unrelenting pressure. We need to show that under duress we can stand firm and execute the game plan. Easier said than done but it is what separates the good from the ordinary. I'd suggest there are one or two in our team who don't cope well when put to the sword.

Exposing our weaknesses is where Bolton was extremely good. He targeted our leaders and drivers. In particular Joel, Danger and Blitz as part of a strategy to at least neutralise the effectiveness of our midfield. As it turned out they won that contest. And without ascendency in the midfield our slow back half is exposed. A back half that doesn't offer the rebound it should in any case. Something the wiser footy heads in the commentariat are finally catching on to.

Coaching 101 is about denying time and space to the opposition. The Blues were exemplary yesterday. Numbers around the ball, running straight, tackling with intent, getting quickly to the mark to prevent speedy movement of the ball et al.They suffocated us. Credit to them!

As things stand another defeat will see us back among the also-rans - which may be where we belong. Big couple of games coming up.

Got worked out and simply made too many turnovers yesterday. Bad kicking is bad football and we need to fix this. Kersten was absent yesterday and I think may need a spell. The lack of pressure was startling and I think that is why we are so different to three weeks ago.

Hardly Kerstens fault that the midfield can't hit a target.

But the amount of time motlop was thrown to the ground, elbowed, jumper punched was unfair to him. The umpires just let them use him as a punching bad and if he pushed back it was a free kick.
This umpire bleating really is beneath you as a club - 3 flags in a decade and one of the greatest free kick magnets in the game and still you can't cop it fair and square - go read post 119 for the reason you bloke's lost - you turned up expecting 4 points, played like millionaires and got done by a team you paid scant respect to - that's it.

**** I hate some of our supporters, fair weather is an understatement, get behind the side ffs, flags aren't won in May.
That's right Cats supporter. It's a long season, the Cats will be there finals time. They are good enough to win against, Norf, Swans, Hawks and Eagles
in September!
