Lukoscious is a beast but do we really need another big half forward?

If we finish second or third from the bottom as I expect he'll probably be gone anyway.

I would rather do it on our own merits

Progressive sustained growth, hasn't hampered the Cats, been competative for over a decade
A range of factors have helped them. They don't have many good players, if any, under the age of 22.

Are you serious! You dont win 3 premierships on the back of a couple father sons .

Scarlett, Clarke, Ablett, Hawkins. Not a bad list.

In addition to those blokes, the club has spent its low draft picks on trading in players in recent years. Dangerfield, Henderson, Tuohy etc.

They've had around 3 lowish draft picks over the last 10 years. One was spent on Selwood and they nailed that. The others have been wasted on Smedts and Cockatoo.

Disgusting attitude.

Obviously we would prefer to play finals we're all for wining first and foremost .
Doesn't make pretty reading the topic of tanking , but reality is plain and simple.
If a team has been stumbling at the bottom for a very very long time it would be negligent not to be creative.
These type of players come around once only.

Thinking a lot of posters in this thread need a reset.
Start looking at prospects between 6 and 12, we are not getting the hyped top enders this year.
Still plenty of talent. On type, a mid/forward should be the wish, but will be best available (mid) for sure.
According to most in the industry were coming 17th or 18th so if they’re right I think it’s okay to discuss lukosius and rankine.

Discuss everyone.

Dow wasn't considered a top 10 pick this early and LOB was considered a top 5 prospect.*

*According to the informed BF posters.

Every club has their misses we of all people Carlton followers should know that not sure we or anybody following Carlton should be questioning Geelongs approach or record of drafting . Yet anyway .

Theyve got the runs on the board and although they havent been successfull in snagging a flag of late they are still in their at the pointy end of the ladder in with a chance , this year will be no different . Can we say the same over the same period and previously ? .

Its what the top clubs do sometimes Hawthorn Sydney trade their first rd picks sydney has done it a number of times over the years And with compromised drafts during expansion years its no surprise .

Some go a bit over the top (North) some get it right . Dont mind the likes of Bartel Ling Chapman Johnson Enright Corey Byrnes Wocjinski Hunt Rooke Kelly Mackie Lonergan Egan Varcoe Stokes Taylor Mumford etc who they drafted over 7 or 8 years prior to their successful period .

Sure they havent drafted as well of recent times but thats nothing unusual yet their still thereabouts most years .

Ben sos finished with 2 goals, 1 from a questionable free kick the other from a nice mark running with the flight.

Looks a good size, didn't strike me as a gut running type of forward.

Was matched up on Manton on occasions, bit of friendly niggle/banter.

I'm sure we will get to see more of him when season kicks off.

Oscar got enough of the ball but disposal, decision making was a bit off today. Needs to back himself to find shorter targets instead of kicking long to contests.

All the Silvagni clan was there watching.

The kicking skills of Hill are sublime. He has that ability to manipulate the trajectory of his kick so that it drops off at the end into the right spot. Not many players can do this.
Assuming Lukosius and Rankine are off the board at our Pick, I can see us going for Hill for his kicking skills and run (and his trade value to Freo after he’s won 3 premierships with us), or perhaps Walsh as the best midfielder.

Of course lots can and will most likely change between now and mid-November.

Connor Rozee please the kid will be a star.
Have been thinking he would be a great fit given where I believe we will be sitting in the draft. Lower half
of the top 10, about right. Not quite the Rankine X factor, but plenty of substance and while a mid first, could
play a few roles.

Given the fruits of our last couple of drafts any future draftees are going to need an avenue in to the top 22.
Inside, outside, HF, HB, wing. Fits the bill on current projections.

Rankine and Lukuscuis (sp) do look pretty impressive I must admit. Rankine likes selling candy, perhaps even too much, the kiddies down the street will all get rotten teeth. And Luku I call him looks like an advanced version of that tall stick insect that plays for Port, Westhoffenburger or whatever his name is.

Yes he possibly would be around our selection and would add to an exciting young midfield we are building. Is tough in the contest with pace , good hands and kick and strong overhead.

Both youngsters wiil be top notch players, huge potental haven't seen anything like like their talent for a very long time. Absolute rippers and will change destiny of respective AFL team.

There are some really terrific prospects coming out from different parts of Australia this year and while the top contingency seems to be from SA and VIC, I really like a fair few of the guys from WA.

The upper echelon of VIC prospects to me includes the likes of the King brothers, Sam Walsh, Jack Bytel and Jye Caldwell. While from SA, Jack Lukosius, Izak Rankine, Connor Rozee & Jackson Hately all look the goods.

Needless to say that from WA Ian Hill is shaping to be a top 10 pick but who else from there matches last year has me watching, even for our later picks?

Dylan O'Reilly, the son of former Fremantle, Geelong and Carlton player Stephen O'Reilly is one... A key forward slash ruck who dominated last year kicking 46 goals from 17 games including a bag of 7 and two games of 5. Unfortunately for Freo, his father fell to games short of the 100 so he will be one to watch in 2018.

Sydney Stack is a live wire small forward slash defender who doesn't accumulate large numbers but is damaging by foot. I don't believe him to be a first round prospect (more like an early 3rd) at this stage but he is definitely one I shall be watching. Here are some highlights:

Finally, the least hyped player, who I actually think might push up into the first round and possible top 10 calculations is Luke English. The ball magnet midfielder won the RediMed Jack Clarke Medal with a total of 53 votes, an astounding 22 votes higher than the player that came in second. Needs to work on his consistency but had terrific disposal and tackle numbers in more games than not.
