I'm happy to put Rowell, Anderson, Young and Jackson as clearly ahead of him when it comes to the right combination of potential, production and efficiency, which IMO makes Sydney the only real wild card as it's hard to see Adelaide skipping over Stephens.

Cripps - "I'd like to have the impact like him" (Wines)
Jesus man, you almost became his captain. :)

Isn't Cripps quicker off the mark than he used to be?
He separates so easily now. First couple of steps do all the damage.

So Geelong offered #14 and a pick in the 30s for #9.
Well that was never going to go far.

If other clubs are seeing this as a way to get our pick, there will be no trading it out.
I liked the idea of it and saw it as a means to an end I thought may play out, but unless some 'magic' drops on draft night, I don't see it now.

Off to the draft we go with a top ten pick.
I have some magic for you Harker.

Thanks to Terry Wallet I don’t see GWS moving up. I agree with the logic that they wasn’t Jackson first at 6. BUT. Recalling the fondness with which the Melbourne recruiter spoke of Jackson and the “benefit I had of watching him kill it forward live at the end of the year in Perth”.....and cognisant of the prevailing view it seems Demons won’t trade down....its because....demons want and will take Jackson at 3. They see him as a good forward for the next 3-4 years then take over from Grundy perfectly at 22.

SO. When that happens all hell breaks loose......

Adelaide then bid on Green. Needs 1627 points after the discount. They are now for sale to the highest bidder for pick 6.

And here comes the magic. Cats want a top ten. They want McAsey. They don’t need to go all the way to 6 to get him. They’d have to offer 14 and 17 to get that. Over paying. So...we have a pre-arranged live trade ready. We give Cats 9 for 14 and 24. Most think stand alone that’s about right. They keep 17. They’re happy. We then trade 14, 24 and our 43 (or a next year’s third if GwS prefer) for 6. 2324 points for GWS to use instead of burning their pick 6 (1751) and more than they had originally at 12 and 18. They had a swing to get Jackson. Didn’t work. Us? We may want Flanders or Stephens badly. We only coughed up 43 or next year’s third to get them. Instead of being stuck underwhelmed with Serong or other.

You’re welcome.

I love it!

Alas, I don't think it can work.

First, Adelaide bid on Green.

Then GWS are given time to pass, match or trade down. GWS have five minutes to organise a trade.

And we won't/can't deal with them unless we deal live with Geelong first.

I doubt we are able to do a live trade with Geelong and submit while GWS is on the clock...

Aren’t three way trades possible?

The draft system doesn't favour clubs that sit on what they have and just pick roughly who the consensus thinks they should take. We need to find players we like and have the picks in place to be able to draft them. If we do the former, I can see us picking one or two underwhelming types (relatively speaking) and a few others who won't make it at all. We need to give ourselves a chance with every pick we take to the draft. I'd rather pick 14 and a pick in the 30s, personally, depending on who is left at 9. I'd rather use three picks on the best three players we can utilise, rather than two picks (one of them middling at best) trying to find the perfect players for our needs.

But if Sydney don't bid, surely GWS will take someone at 6 and then match for Green later. And the points get easier pretty quick.
I was never suggesting they'd take Green with 6? But the point here is that if they trade again to go up the order, it might devalue their remaining points tally for 2019 and 2020 to the point where it wipes out their entire draft.

I think they'll roll the dice with 6 and likely get a bid for Green after that point, which may wind up eating into their 2020 1st round selection.

His first steps have always been good at their best, but they're more consistent now.

Any chance we can get player with these sort of highlights?

It still looks like being Stephens as the best fit for the CFC for me, with Serong second.

Wow haven't seen that video before, is it a piss-take compilation? There's only 1 good piece of play by Fyfe in that video with nothing draft worthy in there at all! Certainly no dual-brownlow qualities being shown in those highlights!

I've mentioned a few times now that I watched Cripps practising his 10 mt speed some years back.
It was quite intensive and we had a few coaches involved. (I'm not sure whether they were timing though)
I don't know how many run-throughs he executed, but it was tiring for him. He was exhausted but kept on going.
After that he did the same but having to get off the deck this time and not the standing start. The effort he put into those drills were very impressive.

There's one video somewhere showcasing Dangerfields highlights that make you wondered how he got to #10 in his draft.

Did some sprint training a few years back.

May as well finish off my series. I did Rankings on July4, Sep17 and Oct17 and this will be my final for the year. My thoughts have remained largely the same throughout with some mostly marginal thought adjustments here and there with some more info. 1. Matt Rowell

2. Dylan Williams
3. Noah Anderson
4. Deven Robertson
5. Luke Jackson
6. Hayden Young
7. Fisher McAsey
8. Brodie Kemp (acl dropped him down)

9. Tom Green
10. Sam Flanders

12. Dylan Stephens
13. Will Gould
14. Harry Schoenberg
15. Lachie Ash
16. Ky Pickett

Some interesting assessments. Kudos for putting it out there. Like seeing variants from the group think, it is very hard not to be influenced by the media speculation this close to the draft.

Very interesting & different to how most of the popular top 10.
McAsey pretty high
Where as, these guys are relatively low Green, Flanders, Stephens, Ash, Henry & Serong
Care to elaborate why?

Their pick in the 30's is pick 36, which will get pushed back to at least 40 on draft night.

Keep in mind that if you add Martin, Deluca and Webb to our list, we'll probably only take 3 or 4 teenagers in the draft.

We've already got 2 x 3rd round selections this year in 43 & 57. Don't think we need another.

Nice work :thumbsu:

Don’t know enough to understand how it happened but in the latest Road to the Draft Podcast they did a Mock Top 30 and the Blues get to choose between Serong, Stevens and Kemp. That would be pretty nice.

I reckon Deluca and Webb are rookie selections at best. Wouldn’t be putting them on the main list, especially when Gibbons remains a rookie

They placed bids on the academy players just before the matching teams picks, meaning the draft order/club's picks didn't change.

E.g. Bid for Green comes before pick 6 and GWS use pick 6 to match. Same situation with Liam Henry.

Pick swaps will most likely take place, which means top 10 picks won't be burnt on academy players as they were in that mock draft.

Maybe. The thing with Webb is that he's had such a bad run with injuries that he could still surprise on the upside.

Look forward to seeing what he can produce.

Well, a million and one things go into it(i've got time on my hands and this is a hobby) but it gets down to feel in the end. I feel that with every Top 25 pick you should be aiming for a 200 gamer.

For me, to sorta simplify it:

1) watch full games at the highest level possible (watch games a few times each) to form own opinion on likely transferable AFL quality.

2) listen/read info on player intangibles from people who know them better than me (ie leadership, dedication, flakiness etc)

3) envision 200 AFL games from said player at near their best and what they can add to structure/fabric of a successful team.

4) judge risk of said player getting to 200 games.

It's good putting it out there. Nothing to lose and credibility is over-rated anyway. :)

Can't get into Phantom Drafts this year but do care for who the CFC will pick-up and who may make the most impact for the club.
Let's throw away Rowell and Anderson and any Academy players, NGA's or FS's, the players whose names I'd like to hear called out on draft night if we were indeed to hand onto the #9 would be -

1. Dylan Stephens
2. Caleb Serong
3. Hayden Young - although I rate him higher.
4. Dylan Williams
5. Brodie Kemp

That has little to do with power ratings but for the players that may fit seamlessly into our team.

Good to see you have Kossie at 16 Terry, I really rate him and think he is the best small forward by a margin.
