List Mgmt. Carlton's 2020 Draft Thread

I’d like to see us take a pure small forward and a KPD, as well as leave a spot open for next year. We have promised to pick up Kennedy. We may also be looking at some ruck depth if TDK needs to play predominantly forward.

2 KPDs is overkill at this stage.

That's why a DFA tall swingman would be a clever selection

Then draft a KPD, a ruck/forward, a pure crumbing forward

Come the mid season draft, put Charlie on LTI list and take the best 19 year old that wasn't drafted

Moving up 17 spots is a good move without there needing to be more to it than that. Waiting for the trade will just see other clubs take these opportunities instead.

Effectively turns the Saad trade into pick 8 and future 3rd round pick for Saad and pick 31. This is more along the lines of what most were originally expecting.

This was Knightmares top 20 power rankings in April of 2017. Makes for some interesting reading.
This really is a draft where no-one really knows who may yet be the best of the crop. The more astute recruiters will pluck gold from bronze. Maybe us?
That was assessment of a horrible draft, halfway through the season by a guy who's a better writer than an eye for talent.

We only have four list spots as it stands, three if we take Kennedy which we will, and two if we decide to keep one open for pre season or mid year.

Best we not base our decisions around Charlie’s knee which could literally go anywhere. I think the club will be hesitant to place him on the LTI list anyway.

OK, that may be the case but I've also seen elsewhere where early on, Naughton was rated in the lat 30's and with Cerra and Coffield a long way away also.

The point should be pretty clear - We really don't have a handle on this draft and some will come out looking like geniuses. ....US? :)

Strange pick swap, effectively similar points exchanging hands
Brings a greater opportunity to nab a slider or provide a little better reach into the draft. All about getting a bit more reach. Wouldn’t surprise me if we reach a little further too.

Is there anything our recruiters have done recently that suggests we're capable of picking out the diamonds from the coal?

It’s a strange swap and must be targeting someone. Wouldn’t it have been better to do the future 3rd with GC for 37 which the swans did after our swap.

Then we would have had 37, 38 and 48 rather than 31, 38 and 78

We will only take one or two kids at the most. 31+38 makes sense whether we use them as is or trade up.

We are only planning on using 2 picks so we got as high as we could, if we were planning on 3 we probably would have done that.

We may still bundle 31 & 38 and target a late teen pick

Thought the same. Think this is a preliminary trade to open up another opportunity elsewhere.

31 and 38 is equivalent to pick 16, so anything after that point would represent a points gain for a club who value points. GWS with Pick 20 would be the ideal partner.

Nik Cox is rated thereabouts, yeah? Cheeky insurance in case Charlie breakds down completely, otherwise an athletic KPD prospect.

Doing the trade today gives us two weeks to make all the necessary arrangements in advance of draft night so we can pull the trigger if we have one of our targets sliding, a la Stocker a couple of years ago.

This definitely makes the draft coverage far more engaging for us Blues fans. "Who are we targeting? When will we strike?"

The fact we don’t have any 1st round picks to worry about will certainly have them more focused on what’s available or likely to be at these picks, plus the fact we will probably be looking at specific types will also narrow the field, other than that I think Austin has a pretty good track record at Richmond but that’s assuming he was heavily involved with there later picks, and we all know what assuming leaves you with. 😜
