well done, Scorps !

I was looking forward to seeing Ferguson and Allen as forwards coming to replace Gehrig and possibly also C Gardiner.

But the man that impressed most (apart from Clinto Jones - BOG by a huge margin with good and effective disposals) was McEvoy. He can ruck, he can kick goals and he is very mobile and quick on his feet for his height (200cm). Had 2 goals, 16 disposals and 7 marks !

Shit, I thought it was on Sunday! :(

Ah well, had footy anyway, wouldnt have been able to watch regardless.

Shocking conditions a the game. Good effort to score 70+ after 0.0 in the first quarter. Only watched intermittently but I was impressed by McEvoy too. Looks pretty big and did well around the ground as well as in the ruck. Dunno who we'd bring him in for though, maybe a key forward (Gehrig/C. Gardiner). CJ was good again, shoddy disposal but always gives it a red hot crack which we could use. Steven looked great too.

I agree.

Someone said it about Blake in another thread : he has a massive heart and will give every beat of it for the team and the club. Harvey (more than anyone), Ball, Hayes, Riewoldt, Hudghton fall within the same category and Jones appears to be in there as well (the ABC commentators also could not understand why he was dropped after the Sydney game despite his courageous mark).

Man I'd rather see people playing who want to be out there and have the heart. Jonesy might not be the best disposal wise, but he more than makes up for it with his courage, third efforts and tackles.

Anyone see Goddard punch his heart after he kicked a goal? Was hoping that may lift the boys, but like someone said, our team gels like oil and water...

BJ can punch his chest, but he continues to roll his eyes at teammates. Just don't like seeing it.

On Casey, Mini-Riewoldt (CJ) was much better than last week imo. Even though he had 25 possessions vs 32 last week he spent a fair bit of time getting special attention from the very tender hands of the doc down there (don't blame him).

His kicking improved in the second half, and I think he has put his hand up. The issue is that the inclusions (Blake & Leigh Fisher) did quite well and the midfield is going OK.

Gears was OK, but thought he'd do better it the wet. Fergie had 15 touches and wasn't too bad. Gwilt had 21 and kicked well (but tơ slow for AFL). Rixy was good again. Fiora had 17 but very ordinary disposal.

Macca is very promising, as is Milney's brother Jack.

Howard wasn't too bad and will keep improving.

Woody struggled, but not his conditions (even though Macca adapted well).

Mini ... hmmm.

I don't see much VFL and conditions were not great on the weekend but I thought It was amazing how much more pace and power Jones had over everyone else.
Apart from that my impression is that Steven and McEvoy are going very well.

From my impression I can not be sure that Ferguson or Allen will be able to handle AFL pace any better than Gwilt or Rix

How s Garrubba going this year, I notice he is kicking a few and playing up the ground, is he a possibility of being rookie listed?

Grubs does look pretty good. I wonder whether he's got the pace for AFL, but yeah as a top up player I'd have him.
From memory he was a state rep in sprinting, he unfortunately was rookie listed to the swans when they were at their best and no rookies got a look in

Been some talk on SS about Silvagni.

So how come we havent picked him up? Hearing his name regularly in the bests for them. Surely he'd be better than Blake, Rix or Raph (playing full back)? We don't really have any decent full backs apart from Max.

Didn't we pick up Rix based on his domination on the VFL? Might go some way to explaining Silvagni not being picked up yet. He's only young though so he might get a look in as a rookie at the end of the year, especially considering KP backs are an area of concern for us

Reads the play well which gets you a long way in the VFL. Jason Cloke has dominated at this level, but we wouldn't pick him up. At 192cm he seems the right size, although he doesn't seem to play tall.

can silvagni be elivated now like valenti has been for melbourne??
im not sure how it works..
if we can i say do it, we need to take some risks.. we need some fresh blood atm..

Last time Blake played VFL he dominated. Also both Rix and Raph go better than Silvagni at VFL level.
Silvagni is coming along nicely, but if you need a good player for now, I don't think you will find a magic fix in the Scorps.

Like everyone else we need to recruit them and develop them.

I do wonder about players like Kruizer and Mc Evoy, drafted close together in the same draft, similar role. Kruizer ( probably spelt wrong) was straight into it ( sink or swim ), while Mc Evoy is going the slower route.

Which is the best for their career? Does Kruizer get a kick start from more experience sooner, or is he more likely to burn out?

Jones's problem isn't ability - he gets nervous. See him when he gets the ball at AFL level: he looks nervous, apprehensive about what to do with the ball, unsure of his own abilities. Saw him on Saturday and he was assured and confident about his decision making and skill execution. He obviously just needs someone in his ear on gameday telling him he belongs.
