Can someone give me some help on how Silvagni is playing, I have big wraps on him after seeimg nim play a few times this year, think he may be a smoky for the draft where key backs are at a premium, is a ready made FB, with nice leap and agility, hows he been playing,
He's certainly got a nice name for an FB.

I know it is a simplistic approach, but could you say that taking Rix, Birss , and Geary out of this team is like taking Kosi, Hayes, and Dalsanto out of the Saints.

Armitage, Clarke, Steven , and Howard were named among the best of a side that lost fairly convincingly. I would like to see more before I selected these guys for Saints.
Part of the reason the Scorpions lost convincingly was thatthey were leading at half time with full back Alex Silvagni holding Zac. Dawson and other forwards goaless. Early in they third quarter Silvagni was knocked out cold and had to be stretched off the ground not to return. The Scorpions back line was dissorganised and there forwards took control

Sounds great, ( the goaless part not the knocked out part ). Maybe the Saints should be selecting Silvagni before Clarke.

How does he fare against the bigger bodied power forwards (Sautner, Podsiadly) any chance he could be picked up.
He is a terrible footballer and Essendon should not pick him up, in fact any club would be stupid to draft him ;)

I've only seen him play a few times but he looks a very good defender and he's usually in the best. I'd like to see us rookie draft him.

Casey team for Round 17 - August 10

B Howard Silvagni Wall
HB R. Clarke Rix Taylor
C Steven Birss Matthews
HF Dunne Allen C. Gardiner
F Ferguson McEvoy X. Clarke
R M. Gardiner Armitage L. Fisher
Int Garrubba McGrath Waite Chivers Matheson O'Bryan Parker Panozza

Good to see X Clarke playing two weeks in a row, but the absence of Baker is worrying. Emergencies for St Kilda are R Clarke, Birss & Rix.

Baker & Attard are supposedly still struggling with their knees.

Dunno about Miles.

The Saints really p!ss me off with the lack of injury update information. It's not hard and doesn't give any of the other clubs an advantage.

No need for cloak & dagger secrecy. And they wonder why rumours start!!!

They take their sweet time doing a match report when they lose. Sav Clarke is a new player? :

SOMETIMES the ladder can be irrelevant in the VFL. Form fluctuates, depending on the quality and quantity of AFL players coming and going at the aligned clubs. A good example came on Saturday, when a Box Hill Hawks team strengthened by five Hawthorn players had a 33-point win over the Casey Scorpions
Box Hill entered the match on the bottom of the ladder and Casey sat fourth.
But one look at the line-ups before the game suggested the Scorpions would have their hands full. The visitors began positively enough, earning a handy lead as elusive half forward Chris Dunne booted three goals in the first quarter.
But they failed to take their opportunities in the second, kicking 2.6, including a poster from Jack Steven after the half-time siren. It was bad miss, and the same could be said about two earlier Casey shots at goal.
The visitors went into the rooms 12 points up, but they capitulated in the second half.
On a heavy ground with a boggy centre, Box Hill worked like ants to boot seven goals in the third quarter and finished off with another three in the last. Travis Tuck, dropped from the Hawthorn team, was best-afield.
The Scorpions suffered a blow early in the third quarter when key defender Alex Silvagni took a heavy hit from Hawk Clinton Young. He was taken from the ground on a stretcher suffering a bruised sternum _ and a groggy head. To the indignation of the Casey camp, Silvagni received no free kick. It would be no surprise if Coach Greg Hutchison takes up the issue with VFL umpiring boss Kevin Mitchell this week.
Still, the Scorpions began to look leg-weary and foot-sore from halfway through the third quarter. It didn't help that Sav Clarke (60 minutes) and Steve Baker (80) were on restricted game time.
The Scorpions were also frustrated by St Kilda's decision to keep Michael Rix and Shane Birss in reserve for Sunday's AFL match against Port Adelaide.
Fourth on the ladder with 10 wins and six losses, Casey has still to sew up a double chance and meets North Ballarat (second) at Casey Fields this Sunday.

Were any players in particular responsible for the diabolical amount of second half behinds? Hopefully no Saints listed players...

Withoug having seem him play does anyone else get the impression that Alex Silvagni is an unsung Max type of back.
You notice when he is missing.
. He went in the draft a couple of years ago and was not picked up because he was not that good in the positions he was being used.
. Has since found that he is good at , and enjoys playing as a back.
If Saints could get him as a late draft pick or rookie he could be very useful. For example he has recently been effective on Dawes , something some of the current Saints lineup cannot claim.
If he and Attard could play on the backline next year it could give the Saints a lot more flexibility with Goddard, Gram, Fisher and Blake.

Would like to see Attard fill the shut-down role on the smalls (rather than Gilbo who should take a tall).

Hopefully Miles will overcome the injury and continue to improve to release one of our defenders up-field.

I didn't think Silvagni would make it, as he's not as quick as Max, but he does read the play well. I've changed my mind and would pick him up in case Goose doesn't come up next year.

Great to see The Flea in the best the last 2 games. I really think he will be a regular next year.

was talking to the casey scorpions scout today and he said that Silvagni was being highly thought about by the Saints. as they have an aging kp backs, is also known around the club, work ethic etc.

Perhaps a late pick or even rookie draft? Is only 21 so he's still young. That name has gotta be worth something on it's own. ;)
