Harris andrews just towellee him up 1v1.

He really needs to learn when up against an opponent that is destroying him to at least compete and get the ball to ground.

He doesnt have to turn the tide and beat harris andrews, but he can at least nullify the contest and get the ball to ground.

To just sit there and get outmarked so badly as a 202cm 100+kg key forward is not acceptable as an outcome.

Harris Andrews is clearly superior, but just bring the ball to ground and contest
Didn’t help that they paid a free against Neale if he touched Andrews. Andrews clearly had the better of him but it’s got to be hard when you’re penalized in every 1 v 1 you manage to equalise.

Neale will be alright, he’s a hard worker and Andrews is one of the best in the biz

Always difficult to assess performances watching it live. Well it is for me anyway.

One day Bairstow got 42 touches and after the game I commented to a friend that I didn't notice him at all.

Anyway after half time I still held hope and from what I saw early in the 3rd Shannon twice looked set to mark not far from goal and Cameron and then Danger spoilt him.

Certainly not his night but hopefully a big learning. He is progressing well.

Still perplexed at those calls especially when they weren't called Neale's way

I'd hate to see you leave, no it's not a deal I'm willing to take the chance on.
Appreciate that a lot,

but if we were to make the GF, win it, minus OH, I would be a very mixed up supporter

I agree. It would be better if Neale just punched the incoming ball instead of trying in vain to mark it. I think he was receiving the wrong advice from the coaches.
I think this will be a very good game for the coaches to go thru footage and show neale aspects of his game that are lacking and needing improvement.

He was clearly beaten badly and out positioned on almost every occasion by andrews. It will be a good educational exercise to go into detail With

Better for this to happen now then in a QF or PF thats for sure. Neale has the tools to bully Andrews just not the experience or nous yet.

Is our problem with Brisbane currently similar to the issues we had with Tigers during their 2017-2020 era?
Are they just too good for us?
Can we learn enough from that game to beat them this year shoud we be lucky enough to meet them again deep in September?
Are we a better unit than we were 2017-2021?

With Richmond they had a tactical and personnel edge for finals footy, owning the chaos/pressure game.

Personally I think our current style holds up well in finals, albeit we are very reliant on one Maximus Holmes being healthy and at his best. See the 2024 finals series. Throw Smith in there too now.

Can we beat them in a final? Yes. But we'll need our small forwards to shake their Brisbane-specific malaise. They are the ones who are having their output massively reduced when we play the Lions.

Our squad has different strengths and weaknesses to 2017-2021 but I think is roughly the same quality overall. We could've won a flag then and we can now. But as the 3rd or 4th sort of seed (forget ladder positions) like back then.

I wouldn't do it (similar to booing).

I would fully expect it if I was an immaculately skilled footballer who handed the opposition multiple goals and stuffed up the majority of involvements though.

Let's not pretend Miers hasn't received incredible praise and support for his great work. And let's not act as if he's so fragile as to let that bother him at all (similar to a key forward having a quiet game then getting a bronx cheer).

We're better than falling for Cornes' rage bait.

Crowds in general have a moronic element - all stadiums. Whinging, booing, ill-advised comments throughout games. It is what it is. And it isn't exclusive to Geelong.

Neale has copped a bit of bagging - however in the 1st qtr i think it was Dangerfield , centred a lovely kick from yhe outer flank to a leading Neale , and the only reason a Lions player got a hand to it was that narrow skinny compact KP ground , on a proper sized ground like the MCG and Perth Oval , Neale takes that mark every day of the week and most likely goals

Thats what happens on a proper sized football ground , defenders cant cut and chop off the angles .

All footy ovals are proper size. On larger ovals the defender doesn't get his hands to it.

Neale destroyed by Andrews, Dangerfield totally ineffective, Stanley lowered his colours against a b-grade reject from Geelong. Smith and Holmes didn't have the freedom they normally have. Cameron kept it from being a shellacking. Miers turning it over multiple times hurt us early. Bad kicking for goal. But these are just details. Brisbane came to play, hunted the ball, ran to space, moved the ball quickly, kicked straight. They looked in a different league. GWS does that to Geelong as well. These teams have a lot of first round draft picks and the class shows. Geelong needs to come to play to have any chance. Geelong has players picked in the 4th round of the draft, Irish experiments and rookies playing on 1st and 2nd round draft picks. It's amazing for Geelong to continue to be successful given the AFL equalization policy.
The week before, GWS beat Brisbane, in Brisbane, and GWS are 7th on the ladder. So it's literally ebbs and flows in the season. Brisbane and Geelong are evenly matched teams - and from where i was sitting, Geelong was just off on the night. They kicked some clutch goals on a dewy night, and Geelong missed some sitters. Our performance definitely elevated theirs. It happens.

This.. Not sure what’s going on there. Usually a minimum of one of our smalls gets off the chain, but recently against Brisbane they have checked out. Throw Dempsey in to that group

Must've been a slow news week for Kane - a bronx cheer is not a big deal, and I doubt Miers would've had hurt feelings over it.

I didn't see the game against Brisbane over the weekend (inconvenient time where I live) but I was genuinely surprised to see the stats after the game. The critical stuff was a lot closer than I expected. Tackles, contested possessions, clearances were all quite close. The one that mattered (goals v behinds) obviously wasn't, but I'm not sure if the scoreline tells a story as dreary as some of us interpreted. Brisbane are absolutely gettable in finals. They are not the most mentally resilient team in the league by any stretch.

I find the insistence upon analysing this loss as if there's some kind of "deeper" meaning other than skill execution and conversion to be pretentious. It's like people dislike looking at those factors because they're "too obvious" or something.

Sometimes the truth is boring. Sorry!

Daniel Hoyne from Champion Data is my spirit animal apparently. Here's what he said this morning:

"It feels like everyone comments about "How important is accuracy?" but when it actually plays a part in a game of footy no one talks about it, and no one actually goes with the obvious answer that that is the problem.

I wake up Saturday morning and I see people talking about, "Gee, Geelong have got some issues. Geelong have got some concerns. Well you know what Geelong did on the weekend? [Regarding xG] they left 46 points out on the scoreboard through their poor accuracy in front of goal. That's the most ever recorded in a game of footy. 51 points they scored. Based on their opportunities and where they had them from, they should have scored 97 points and won that game.

Brisbane were fantastic, but no need to panic [if you're Geelong]."
