Autopsy Cats lose to Port by 6 points after being down by 10 goals

That confuses me bc he played 19 games last year and the weeks he didnt play afl he played vfl so he clearly was fit enough to play at some level.
Take it up with Tanner 🤷‍♂️

Can you imagine the s**t the club would be copping if we retired Stanley off and paid a heap for Soldo who was now injured after playing a few ok but nothing special games?
Any random half-decent VFL/SANFL/WAFL ruck would live up to what Stanley is producing... And they'd be doing it on minimum wage.

All tall options could be carrying something... As you say, how would we know?

What we do know is that our ruck department was complete tripe last year.

We lost a seasoned ruck in Ceglar and replaced him with two guys who simply were not going to be rucking in the AFL this year (Furf and Edwards).

So we had a weak ruck division that got even weaker.

In a way that is on us... Stanley was never going to be good enough this year and Conway was never going to be ready.
I keep hearing these complaints about how we didn’t upgrade our ruck situation. But I never hear any suggestions on who we should have brought in.

We are looking for a unicorn. A decent ruckman, who will be happy to play vfl if Stanley is in form, but is also happy knowing that Conway will take the #1 ruck spot next year. But they need to be good enough to be #1 ruck in a contending team if needed. And oh by the way you need to be on a cheap salary and cost nothing to acquire. And oh yeah, I forgot, you also have to be happy either leaving Melbourne (or your current interstate city) to live in Geelong or commuting from Melbourne.

Benny cas keeps talking about Goldstein and how he should be at Geelong and not Essendon, but Goldstein clearly didn’t want to leave Melbourne due to family constraints.

the player we need just doesn’t exist.

The best couple of rucks in the VFL/SANFL or WAFL.

I assume these guys nominated for the draft.

Any of them would be able to do what Stanley is doing, and they'd do it on minimum wage.

Stanley was never going to be anything but lock stock 100% liability this year.

Interesting clip. Scotty saying what a few said after the Carlton game. Strange CE thought otherwise. It is an umpiring issue

Considering how much our game plan centers on hurting the opposition on turnovers, the umps' reluctance to pay us even blatant and obvious HTB decisions is a major handicap. It took the big screen showing a clear one-handed dish-off by a Port player and an entire stadium of Cats fans chanting "Buuullshiiiit.... buuuullllshiiiit" for them to start actually paying some.

Other clubs manage to find such rucks, or are there teams playing with a Stanley type as the only senior specialist ruckman in their squad?

So we should have won the game :smirk:

Without doing hours of research I'd say it's rare for a player to cut his hair and get better but agree and hope it's Mullin.
Although an Israelite warrior + not an AFL player, Samson lost his strength when his head was shaved by Delilah. But? Was Samson's weakness his hair or Delilah?

Stanley is struggling but this is overstating it. Naismith has looked crap and he was great in the VFL. He's probably going worse than Stanley. Stanley's doing better than Ceglar last year who was dominating VFL despite being unable to move. Stanley's wage would be barely higher than Naismith's either.

Hoo boy.

OUT: Hawkins (rest), Cameron (inj), Duncan (rest), Stanley (omit)
IN: Neale, Bruhn, Bowes, Conway

Had hoped to be able to see Hardie debut, but now four forced changes is already too many.

Tuohy should be back in too.

Just read your previous post. No tests yesterday, what has happened today?

Via club:

As per the AFL’s concussion guidelines, Geelong medical staff immediately attended Cameron and conducted a HIA on ground, where he reported no symptoms and satisfied all AFL requirements. After further review of the video footage, and in consultation with the spotters in the ARC, it was decided there was no criteria to remove Cameron immediately from the field for further assessment.

As further due diligence, and still with no concussive symptoms, Cameron undertook and completed a normal SCAT6 concussion assessment after the game.

As is the process following a match, Cameron was monitored and assessed again on Saturday morning, where he reported some concussive symptoms on repeat SCAT6 and a diagnosis of delayed concussion was made.

Cameron will miss Thursday night’s match against Gold Coast Suns and will continue to be monitored through the protocols.

Really early meat tray. Depressing one hoping that it will be better than I currently think… will adjust closer to game as I feel better

Out: Hawkins (managed), Jezza (concussion), Holmes (inj), Stanley (ommitted/managed), Duncan (managed)
In: Neale, Conway, 2E, Bowes, Bruhn

I was convinced they would manage Dempsey this week but if I am right with 2 forwards out I reckon they might keep him for flexibility? But could easily manage Dempsey for Mannagh - would be 6 changes then? If Holmes isn’t injured then Dempsey will be managed.

During Hawkins’ interview (355 equal with Selwood), he said he viewed his poor form as a speed bump 🤷🏻‍♀️
Added, he was told he’d be rested/managed this year + accepted it.

Considering we have a strong forward line, when Hawkins is rested, could Neale play forward + perhaps as backup ruck? He could easily play Hawkins’ rucking role in our forward line, too.

Conway, R3 Hawthorn, was discussed in glowing terms by King + Chief (can’t believe I’m including them), who pondered if Toby should be played as second ruck.
“He looks good, doesn’t he? He took a big grab. Kicked a goal. He is doing all sorts of things,” Dunstall said.
Scott stated:
“We're thinking about it," Scott said of naming both Conway and Stanley.
"We're not in a position in our preparation this week to roll out our plans just yet, but it's a live option for us.”
“The priority for Toby is making sure we don't cut any corners in making sure he's a really consistent decade-long player for us."
I reckon they will prime him for finals if they can. No other reason to keep him in cotton wool.
