Only saw bits and pieces of this one,

Seemed like a hard fought workman like effort in a high pressure game.

Good signs

Only got bits and pieces but Jack Henry looked like he had a huge game, notwithstanding one dodgy kick across 50. Needs to stay fit if we’re in with a chance.

I didn’t think he was trying to get him suspended at all. He said he shouldn’t get suspended and agreed it was madness to even be discussing it but system is unclear

He’s right when he says if he gets him in the head that’s 4 plus and a concussion.
You can’t risk it really.

It was a brilliant hit but **** it’s risky in this day and age. Such a fine line.
No I disagree with you, you need to read between the lines, King saying things like “He’ll probably get off” and “ I’m just not sure” “Regardless of the concussion” for something that absolutely straight forwardly is not suspendable is him trying to bring doubt into it.

Which is why the other analyst called him out on it.

Holmes, Atkins and O'Connor collectively gave the Suns A grade midfield a bath.

Stengle the best forward on the ground by a mile. Miers didn't have everything come off, but he just gets our ball movement going.

Stewart had a really good game. Henry had one of his best since returning.

Satisfying performance in tough conditions and with frustrating circumstances (pre match Smith exclusion, in game injuries, umpiring etc).
No small feat for the mids to get on top given the ruck too. Stanley did well nullifying him in parts but witts still gave then som real clean use

37 pts against is precisely the fodder of the league that'll help us move into the premiership quadrant.
The good thing is, everyone will say KP and keep doubting the cats and hopefully the cats just keep on moving forward with wins for a big opportunity this year. Another big game with Bombers next week.

Stewart didn’t even get his head ..he hit the ribs/shoulder area …he hit his head on the ground and was winded

Stewart can’t be responsible for gravity
That's a sweet , sweet good old fashioned perfectly timed bump to his upper body- Stewart would have barely felt it😁😁

I think the best thing in this one is the consistency we played with. We had some pretty inexperienced players out there and they didn't back down at any point.

Holmes and Stengle outstanding. Loved what MOC brought. Atkins, Stewart, Miers all great.

People like to throw stones at Neale but I hope they think about this when we're targeting Ollie Henry as the key forward in the coming weeks

nothing is going to happen
I think that if a suspension does come out of this game it may be a Gold Coast player.

I dont like the bloke but fair play to Hardwick in his presser, seemed to put in a good word for Stewart by saying it was within the rules and that there was no head involved just chest rather than trying to crucify him
I'm not a huge fan of him.

He's got a tough job trying to get all that telant they have to compete in finals.

The old sun's would be happy to only lose bye that amount.

1. Rhys Stanley - Broke even with Witts, losing the hitouts but pantsing him around the ground, which was important for us. That desperate spoil on a Suns forward who looked metres in the clear was a highlight. You don't expect a 34yo big man to have that kind of pace, especially in the wet. Some blokes when they look back on their careers will think, maybe I could have gone around another year. Others will realise they might have hung on one season too many. I don't reckon Rhys Stanley will have any worries on either count.

5. Jeremy Cameron - Pretty quiet day, couldn't seem to get involved. It wasn't a good day for tall forwards generally.

7. Shaun Mannagh - Conditions were good for a ground ball winning midfielder and he had a pretty good game. Always in the thick of the action, and his disposal was generally pretty good.

9. Max Holmes - Career best game IMO, with 40 touches and close to 900m gained. With Smith missing we needed someone to accumulate a huge heap of possessions and Holmes delivered. He seemed to be a lot stronger at winning the contested footy too, which is unusual for someone normally thought of as an outside mid.

14. Connor O'Sullivan - He did a lot of smart things, reading the ball well and getting the basics down well. You can tell he's been soaking up knowledge from his older teammates like a 200cm sponge. He was a little bit fumbly at times, which is to be expected in the conditions, and I don't recall too many major errors.

17. Lawson Humphries - Sneaking forward for a goal no doubt put a smile on a lot of peoples' faces. Scarecly made an error, hit targets by foot, and stuck his tackles. Just like every week.

18. Tyson Stengle - Only just behind Max Holmes for BOG, I reckon. He was a royal pain in the arse for the Suns' defenders all day at ground elvel, but it was his leading and set shot kicking that won us the game. Straight through the middle every time. And I think what I like most about those goals is they were just unpretentious, regulation drop punts executed with geometric perfection. No fancy shmancy round-the-corner kicks, just the basics of the game executed well.

19. Jack Martin - This was an encouraging hoops debut. Yes, he drifted in and out of the game but after a long injury layoff and trying to fit into a new team's structure, I think Martin ticked most of the boxes the coaching box had set for him. Hitting targets at 100% DE helps too.

16. Sam De Koning - Best game in ages. Started the game positively, with hardness and intent, and maintained it all game. It wasn't a good game for tall forwards, so in that sense he might have had an easier time, but it was crap conditions for tall defenders as well. SDK's skill for a big man when the ball's at ankle height is a bonus for us.

22. Mitch Duncan - Not a bad outing for a bit over half a game of footy. He doesn't run as fast or kick as far as in his prime, but he's become very sly. His little tap-ons and quick touches in heavy traffic tend to open up a fast break for us, proving there's no substitute for experience.

28. Ollie Dempsey - Wingmen who can win the ball in the midfield and then sneak forward to take contested marks are absolute gold. Dempsey had a quieter game than usual today, but still found a way to impact the game in the last quarter and kick the sealer. I've said earlier he'd be even better if he just focused on the fundamentals in the midfield and save the Harlem Globetrotters stuff for the goalsquare, and I think that's what we got today.

30. Tom Atkins - At the bottom of every pack again. You never get less than full effort from Axe, and snagging the opening goal of the game is fitting reward for a lot of hard work. He's turning into quite a reliable set shot- he's usually thought of as a defensive mid, but with the amount of tackles he lays some of them will be inside 50 and some of those will be rewarded, so he gets regular opportunities. It's good to see.

32. Gryan Miers - Excellent once again. On rainy days you're not going to get a lot from contested marking, so you've got to hit targets inside F50 and around the ground. One or two over-ambitious passes aside, his disposal was elite 10,000-IQ stuff.

33. Shannon Neale - He was unlucky to roll his ankle early, because I think he would have worked his way into the game a bit in the second half. Hopefully it's not too severe an injury.

34. Oisin Mullin - Quiet day stats wise, but since you can say the same of the guy he was taging, I think we won that battle. Mullin seems to have found his niche, for now, as a tagger. In coming weeks I hope and expect him to start winning the ball himself and giving us a bit of drive through the midfield.

35. Patrick Dangerfield - I'm not sure why he spent the whole game forward, because he was having no impact. All it took was five minutes in the midfield to turn the game in our favour in the 3rd quarter. Still, getting through the game without worries after that hamstring injury was all we ended up needing.

38. Jack Henry - One disastrous kick across the ground aside, I don't think Henry put a foot wrong. He reads the ball so well off the boot that he's able to beat significantly taller players, and when he goes for a spoil that ball is DEAD.

39. Zach Guthrie - A big mark late was the highlight of a pretty unobtrusive game. He won his position without a lot of fanfare, which is what I seem to write about Zuth every week.

40. Ted Clohesy - I think I prefer him to Jhye Clark at this point. Clark has the better skills, but Ted has trhe more AFL-ready physique. Fifteen touches looks mediocre on the stats sheet, but he is tracking nicely and I thought he more than held his own. Eight tackles too, which was good to see.

42. Mark O'Connor - With Smith out, MOC got the opportunity to play some midfield minutes. His toughness, unflappable temperament, and sound disposal were very important for us. He's not a very flashy player but he's quietly putting together an excellent season.

44. Tom Stewart - Looks to be getting back to some decent form. The elite intercept marking is back, and I recall only one major blunder. Hopefully there's no case to answer with that bump, but when has that ever stopped our blokes getting rubbed out?

45. Brad Close - Very welcome return to form. The conditions very much suited him. He looked far more eager to do the contested stuff than in previous weeks. He looks a lot better competing for a loose ball than standing around inside F50 while teammates drop the ball on his head and expect him to compete effectively against tall defenders.

46. Mark Blicavs - Another solid game around midfield and half back. Twenty touches and two contested marks on a day when most other talls struggled to run or hold onto the footy was a big win for us.
