Meritorious win against an in-form team on their patch; happy with that.

A sluggish start had me nervous early but the team worked it’s way into the contest without panic and a handy-enough lead was only infrequently threatened throughout the remainder of the afternoon.

Shannon Neale was a real instigator in that early comeback with strong hands and clinical finishing.

Isaac Heeney’s belligerent, entitled display was an embarrassment for a player of his ability; tried to hard-man it against O’Connor, but the Irish veteran is the last player to be rattled and he stuck to his guns like an absolute pro.

Paddy was deployed sparingly yet was still brutally effective.

Tyson Stengle missed an early shot and looked mired in his recent goalkicking malaise, but stuck to his craft and turned things around with a brilliant double tackle-breaking snap and a sublime wide set shot from 50.

No injuries from the game that I'm aware of once again; getting to the pointy end in great shape.
When Stengle was getting lip from that swans fan over the fence, he got this steely look in his eye. I thought to myself I reckon he's going to nail this. Moments like that can stir a player out of a slump. I think he's going to fire in September.

Best part of that was te amount of shit he copped after that goal

Neale had a few tougher shots and he made them. He wont always, but the belief he is building not only in himself but with his teammates will be instrumental going forward.

Again - he's gonna have bad days and bad kicks and misses - but hes lifting his floor.

GO Catters
Starting to notice that when he has the ball within range players aren't always trying to give him leads anymore as they know he has the legs and accuracy to make the shot a good amount of the time so unless they are in a much better position with a good chance to get it they just tell him to go back and nail it.

Such an amazing turnaround with Neale's contested marking in recent weeks. It's gone from a weakness to a decisive strength. It's like he'd been playing without his contact lenses in all this time or something.

The other thing he offers that is invaluable especially since Rohan retired is that serious pressure on backline playmakers. He's big and he's quick. That run down tackle he put on one of the swans (can't remember who) was inspirational for the team. Shades of Otto in 07.
I have been saying for a while he just needed time and confidence and it would click and something just clicked in that Dogs game and he hasn't looked back.

Haven't been the biggest fam of MOC this season but there's no doubt that when he gets a lockdown role or a specific role in defense, then we do seem to get his best. Great job on Heeney.

At the risk of repeating myself another for week, the job Mullin is doing each week is outstanding. Becoming an important cog in that midfield rotation as a run with player who can really nullify one of the oppositions best. Kept Gulden to low 20 disposal count and I didn't think Gulden really had an impact.

Both the Irish lads will have some big jobs handed to them over the next month.

Mullin will eventually evolved into an A grade midfielder himself.

He's learning from the best every week and he has all the attributes. Speed and strength.

What I noticed about Mullin yesterday was that there were a heap of times where the ball was flicking around in tight and he refused to ball watch.
He had one job and he stuck to it.

A real professional performance outside of the first 10min. While it wasn't perfect, once we got our game going, we were far too clinical. Considering the worry about Sydney and the fact they had just knocked off the reigning premiers on their own ground the previous week, a 7 goal win really was underlined how comprehensive it was.

I really liked the return of the Geelong wall in that second half. SDK was good, Tommy Stewart's intercept ability has returned and we completely nullified them in the second half, both in midfield and down back.

To kick 111 with Jez contributing one behind is a huge positive going into September.

Now to get through unscathed next week and come out firing for the QF.

Same thing happened in the second half against Port

They went into stop Jezza mode which allowed Neale and Martin tear them a new one in the 3/4
The narrative must be “ we stop jezza we stop geelong” but to look at our forward line and scoring capacity across the board and believe that is incredibly stupid coaching.

I hope brisbane do this, but I highly doubt it. They will not leave defensive gaps inside 50

Don't recall the Neale incident.

No players reported as concussed from Sydney - no match day report - first offense. Unless we've all missed something then I'd think it's a fine. I think we would have heard more about it by now if it was serious.

I can't open the article - I choose not to part with any hard earned on that mob.

But if above comments are correct in that there was no footage and no match day report - it's a bit hard to comprehend. I guess the AFL do have access to different footage than media outlets though.

It’s just after a marking contest where he ran past and took a player high. 3rd quarter 14min mark.

I doubt they’d contest as it looks like small contact, but with the head.

Hard to say from this angle, perhaps they are relying on medical report.

You can make contact with the head and get a fine - it all comes down to how they grade it. Intentional / not intentional / low impact / medium or high impact.

We'll survive if he doesn't play this week, but another MCG outing for the big shagger against average opposition might be good for his growing confidence.
