I dont watch non geelong games much anymore (too many other things going on in my life) so i didnt know much about bailey smith coming into this season.

unless he is uncharacteristically below his best at the moment he aint a gun is he? Certainly wont ever be a top twenty in the comp player. Might not ever be all australian level as a mid.

And he is more inside then I thought with not much outside damage factor (lots of scrappy handballs that dont hit their target too). Certainly nothing like holmes or danger in terms of x factor. Seems more at the peak cam guthrie and mitch duncan talent level then anything else. Maybe slightly better.

Great that we have him. Certainly need players like him in the mids. But he doesnt match the pre season hype. Am i alone on this assessment?
He's played 3 games at a new club after having a load of time off. I think we can be quite happy with 2.5 games from that run. Now that Holmes is getting tagged and Dangerfield spends more time forward, Smith is a valuable addition (I think if he played against St Kilda we'd have won that game).

We got him for pick 20 and he is still pretty young. Somewhere on the A to B grade spectrum makes him a bargain. Nobody thought we were getting peak Dangerfield, Martin or Selwood though.

Young key talls usually get gifted their first fifty to seventy games on potential. He's up to what, 20, 25?
And he’s not even 23 yet.. give him

He averages 6 disposals 3 marks and 1 goal a game.

I hope he comes good. He impressed in the first final against port Adelaide last year with his link up, but he is not playing to an AFL standard so far his first 4 games.
And you heard it here first on news at 6…

“23 year old key forward form fluctuates as he learns the game (under 25 games) with a mf that provides sporadic delivery at best while now garnering the number 1 KPD each week.

Cue the outrage and demands to replace Tom Hawkins output now.”

Facepalm

You’re a harsh man Seeds.

Maybe you were expecting too much.

I don’t know who was hyping him up to be anything more than he already is.

Nothing wrong with peak Guthrie/Duncan level for pick 24.

His 10th season at Geelong, a true champion of our club, and absolutely wrapped he got the flag he deserved in 2022, let’s hope he can snag 1 more before hanging up the boots.

I know the end can come quick but Danger has another year or 2 in him, is still so damaging. Doesn’t need to have 25-30 anymore, 15-20 touches and a couple goals is still great.
Just a bit worried that he has had a few recent seasons where he bursts out of the blocks but fades out and/ or gets banged up/injured.
..Still goes just as hard at the contest even with fewer touches but I guess it’s hard to tell a guy like that to dial it back a bit.

Three games, Seeds, one of which he was clearly BoG. Three, and IMO he has been in our best in the other two.

Whether he's going to be a gun - look, I think he doesn't quite have the disposal or evasive/explosive skills of the absolute top tier (that Bont/Danger/Fyfe territory), but he could absolutely be in the top 10 to 20 range in a few years, so long as his knee and his mental health goes ok.

Not base on this season. Been a liability.
You think Neale has been a liability? I think he's been struggling with the extra attention a bit, especially given oppo defenders aren't really having to pay much respect to Henry or Cameron. But liability is harsh.

So dropping players works 😀 Hawk also had competition for the position at the time
Sometimes it does, sometimes it's best to show faith. Sometimes the outcome is unrelated to whether the player was dropped or not.

IMO, if we get another two weeks like the last two, then I'd prefer to drop Neale and go smaller up forward. But if he can go back to at least getting first hands and attacking the ball, then he stays.

This is pretty poor from Dempsey - deserves his fine and hopefully we won't see this from him again

I've actually watched this quite a few times to see what happened, and honestly, I'm not sure he did stage?

McDonald's arm goes for the spoil at first, but as he's finishing the spoil, his arm swings back and smacks Dempsey in the chin, which could explain the reaction. I'd be challenging that if I were him.

He’s as much a liability as you are a positive little flower…

Can he improve - totally - but a liability means he’s costing the team wins…

I don’t see it

Developing yes .. liability is laughable.. but you are prone to hyperbole

To be fair to Warhorse , if you didn't see Neale as a liability over the games against Brisbane and Melbourne, then I don't think we were watching the same game. He was straight-out uncompetitive against Jack Payne, and really struggled on Friday night to get first hands to it at marking contests.

Being a liability doesn't strictly mean he's costing the team wins, it just means that he is a big risk of losing the ball every time he is in a contest. Pretty obviously we were never going to lose to Melbourne at home, but he was still a liability.

I say this as a Neale supporter, and the moon boot is telling. He just didn't look like the same player he was in the first two weeks.

Sometimes it doesn't take much to shake a young player's confidence, and an injury to carry can do that.

The whole world’s a stage…(Shakespeare) :p

I agree . His response was to the backhander he got after the mark was completed. Nuance between ‘staging’ and bringing umpires attention to a dog act
(Edit: watching it again it was a little over the top..maybe should not have gone to ground like he did)

Half of you fools would have delisted Tom Hawkins in early 2008 going by the crap posted about Neale.
Give the KID time.
Posters do this with every kid look at the hate Clarke gets at time ..no one is patient it could take another 2-3 years before we see consistency from some of the kids it’s part of the journey

Great find Shadow... Dempsey 100% copped an untoward backhander from Tmac.

Zero staging... Just natural reaction to copping a whack in the grill.

Jon (blonk) Ralph should come out and publicly apologise for incorrectly reporting something and putting a blemish next to Dempsey's name.

We all know the opposition nuffies will run with "Dempsey is a stager" for a long time due to his incorrect post.
