Cameron is leading the Coleman by a bazillion goals and is coming off the biggest bag kicked by an individual player in over a decade. Lachie Jones was completely correct to stick to his man like used chewy.
If you live in 1993 sure. In todays game it’s about team defensive structures, and jones neglected the team thing on many occasions even to the point of turning his back on the play.

I was watching at home with my daughter and we were doing all the dance moves after each of Martin's goals. Lol
My wife loves it, but personally I hate it.

I dislike the tacky chew gum advertisement feel it gives games.

I’m old fashioned and just love my focus on the game. I feel like the music takes away the tense atmosphere of footy

AFL house is on notice after grubby Shaw on 3aw today made the following statement "Tanner Bruhn, who knows what is going on with him", when discussing possible players to come into the GFC team. Maybe Tony shaw can discuss why a small collingwood forward was absent from his team for a few weeks. Why not be honest tony about the pies.

Was getting zero support from his Port colleagues too.

Maybe they know he's leaving and aren't prepared to put themselves at risk for him
JHF and Rozee are key players for Port.
Imagine Swans without Heeney and Warner

Exactly what I noticed.

The amount of times lachie jones actually had his back turned to play blocking Cameron and just letting a cat drop into the hole infront or letting them stroll in was catastrophic and allowed us to score easier as a unit.

Will be amazing if teams do this in finals.

You could just see how devestates jones was each time Cameron got a goal, it’s like a little tantrum occurred

Don't want him. Spending big dollars on players like that, who can't do anything when given attention, is how you become a mediocre side.

When our guys, like Holmes and Smith, get attention, it does affect their games but they aren't rendered completely worthless like what happens to Butters. Hawthorn won the game by tagging him a few weeks ago because it reduced him from having a lot, to effectively no, influence. With tagging, you have to juggle the negative of dedicating one of your players to a player defensive role with the positive of quelling the influence of another. You have to question how much of an impact to an opposition player's game is needed to make that a viable play. With butters, there's no discussion needed. You tag every time because he has no means to break it. He's not intelligent enough to adapt to it like better players can.

Serong from Freo is the same. You tag him every time because he's immense without a tag and an ant with one.

Our bigger concern is that Mullin is good at tagging a player like Butters, so he's useful for this match up. But is he necessary every single game, given he seems to have few other tricks up his sleeve? If the opposition player breaks the tag, what then for Mullin? Last week, North didn't have anyone worth tagging. We steamrolled them and Mullin was a spectator.

I doubt Mullin was a spectator, and that's the thing with taggers, they're out of the public eye doing the stifling, rather than spectating. Butters was one of Ports few champions left, who was expected to step up. Then it's more than notable (Oisin wore him like a jumper as well as got his own possessions) ) and really something to give credit for. There's a reason taggers are called silent achievers.

You could see the defensive structure of Port changed after half time ( to stop Cameron) and the Cats in particular Neale and Martin took advantage.

Today Paddy was 2022 grand final like, did it all and like 2022 granny was completely unselfish but more forward and for mine was most influential player on ground as stats indicate. Paddy plays like that in September and we're in with a big shot at flag, a 'contested beast' in air and on ground but not over doing it but rather setting up plays and goals..... that's the Paddy I like to see, the guys a freak.

Max Holmes brilliant, Oisin Mullin is Butters worst nightmare, does it fairly and is MCG finals built and bound. Bailey Smith is a offensive and defensive energised running machine. Lawson Humphries accurate, visionary and sometimes penetrating left or right foot kicking is an absolute weapon and a lesson to every other player in the comp. to how offensively dangerous a player can become with that unique skill set and the play that lead to Stengles goal in 3/4 quarter is a perfect example of this. Shannon Neale is coming-on big time and the mobility he displays for a big man along with his excellent skills below his knees for a man his size is up there with the best and pleasingly, is slowly but surely improving his contested marking along with his ruck work that has improved out of sight. Much to like about the Cats at present as we 'amazingly once again' warm to September for another final series..... and GO CATS !!!

I'm not sure we'll do much in September but jeez it was nice to fillet a side with not much on the line. Half forward brigade very good, Neale is looking better every week, and screamers to COS and Jack Henry. A very enjoyable Sunday afternoon.

I tend to think along similar lines.
I can see the Cats winning a final or getting to a pre-lim, but I cannot see them getting any further.
I think that The Pies (I know, we narrowly beat them) and Brizzy are better than the Cats.
I would love to see the Cats win a flag in the 100th anniversary of their first VFL premiership of 1925, but I honestly think that we fall a bit short.
But then again, anything is possible if you make the finals, and I personally would love to see Paddy hold that cup aloft at 5pm on Grand Final day. I hope to be proven wrong, and would love it if people on this page remind me of my pessimism should the Cats win the flag.

Don't know about anyone else but I think we actually play better against better teams and their set ups

At the moment we can only beat who we are playing

It's a same in any sport, the scrubber teams bring your game down to their level. They clamp up a well oiled machine, so badly they'll fuel errors and fluke an occasional win. One of the reasons we hate the scrums of the past boring Lyon teams.

If teams want to do this by all means, we will benefit from it.

Brad Scott is too professional and I don’t think he will obsess over 1 player to the detriment of his defensive structures.

If we want to go for Cameron in bad positions then as an oppo coach you would say go for it. What I would be furious is seeing a lachie jones letting your sides defense crumble turning your back to play like that and letting players waltz in.

He was a liability and cost port badly with his play

Meh played ok but that won't cut it in finals. Need to go up a gear. Got the % we needed.

I expect we rest a couple of older guys off the 5 day turnaround this week (Stanley and danger the obvious ones) and then the Sydney game is season defining.

My thoughts exactly in the first two quarters, there were some errors there that made me think hope we don't do that- the current top three sides would eat us for breakfast.
Still we can only enjoy the journey. Hope these weaker teams are providing us with introspection and chances to get into rhythm, as both Danger and Jezza say, we are working on some things. So far, so good.

I too think we will just fall short. We seem to fall over in our midfield strength and lack the ability to clamp down on oppo speedy slingshot playmakers out of defense.

Brisbane and GWS cut us to pieces from HB and we don’t have the personell to go with it.

Our strengths are
1- elite forward line
2- quick outside runners
3- endurance runners

Weakness
  • pressure forwards
  • speed out of the back line
  • contested ability at contests

It got to him from the opening bounce too, spent half his time thumping Oisin in the chest during dead balls than actively trying to find space or looking for options to help.

And lip reading, spent his time on the bench salty whinging that Mullin was somehow cheating to get the better of him.
He gave up- Losers gonna lose.
