Whether you like it or not, Witts is actually the best opponent to bring Darcy in for, Jackson will likely get wrestled by Witts and lower his colours. JL indicated as much already anyway in his presser today.

When JL says 'horses for courses', this is the exact game he is referring to when making Darcy no 1.

Now whether Darcy is ready or not, I don't know. But I know if he was fit he's in as lead ruckman 100%.

Weather means there is absolutely zero way you should play two ruckmen… we would be far too tall. I back Jackson’s ability around the ground, even if he loses the hitout battle.

Witts would be the biggest challenge Jackson has come up against, but I don't think "around the ground" is going to matter if Witts sets the ball up to his mids and they kick it away into their forward line.

Gold Coast loses when they get smashed in clearances (or when they miss their shots at goal). We can only influence one of those directly

The only reasonable alternative in my eyes which i really don't like is that Wagner goes back to fill in the Simpson role and NOD takes his spot in the middle.
I like the balance with Wagner in the middle and his ability to play well offensively and defensively, NOD doesn't give us that.

The cupboard is completely bare at the moment. We badly need some people back to provide some depth.

Yep, and a few years ago he was good.. now he isn't best 22. We do not need 2 rucks in the same side, particularly in the wet.

Based on the fact that structurally he doesn't fit. We're 0-3 playing 2 ruckmen this season, in each of those games we've been destroyed in pressure factor and that has come directly from being far too tall.

Only way Darcy can conceivably come in, is if the other ruckman comes out of the side, and right now Jackson's form is significantly better. I'm not keen on messing with the structure that has resulted in our 2 best performances of the season in the last 2 weeks, on an away trip, in the wet against the form team in the comp.

The way the side is best structured up, Sean Darcy is not best 22, he's a backup ruckman, and I'll die on this hill - the Darcy and Jackson combo does not work, it's one or the other.

I'm loving the promise he is showing as someone with no preseason and starting a long way back fitness wise in general. He hadn't even played 20 league SNAFL games, he's a steal. But let's get real: Of the players to have played 8 or more games for us this season he is currently the 2nd lowest ranked.

Interesting Amiss is the lowest. Another tidbit, of all the players in the comp with a ranking below or equal to Amiss (4.06) he has the most goals by 10. (16 to Ollie 'Spud' Lord on 6. How is he getting a game just quietly Port fans?).
