I would rather Rhyce start dropping players that are incapable of performing at AFL level that some stupid point proving exercise because a guy isn’t the best defensively.

**** just about every damaging wingman in the comp would be dropped on this premise.

I think Rhyces mantra sounds more like defence only, not defence first.

Doesn’t matter who you are you have to meet minimum standards...
For a team that’s just lost six, this is the best message you can send to the group, dropping under preforming senior players.

It risks losing the relationship with Polec if he hasn't bought into the reasoning behind it. If he is just pissed off and feels hard done by that is not ideal.

What minimum standards have Hall, Atley, MacMillan and Pittard been at over the last 6 weeks?

No good being able to follow instructions if when you do you perform like a ******.

As I said elsewhere, it's the public roasting of the guy that was curious. Fair enough to be dropped for your 'body of work' (even if to our eyes it seemed he played well), but airing dirty laundry in public is usually a hail Mary type play for people management.

Dude's halfway through the second year of a 5 year deal, at 750k a year. Not a player who you want to lose through rash public humiliation.

Maybe he’s tried the soft approach. I’d be more concerned if Shaw was pandering to him because of his contract.

You don’t think the most relationship builder coach, we’ve seen at club in a very long time hasn’t been very clear in what he wants, from the players??

I’d have a few more out and keep polec.. but i’ll give ya the hot tip. Brown is personal, polec is tactical, havin a spell because he’s needed.. are the teams out yet? Reckon theres more than those two

It's not a matter of pandering. I never said don't drop him. I am saying that giving them a public drive-by is a risky move, and that risk grows for a man who is set for life. You can take a hard approach without resorting to a public slamming.

Sounds like he wants a group of yes bots who do what they are told, even if they can’t perform at the level.

It’s a weird statement to project the issues of your team onto a player who has at least shown they are capable at the level, while giving passes to players who are been disgusting but following his plans.

I would have had more praise if he sent a message by dropping Pittard for his total lack of discipline last week. That would have been sending a proper message.

The one thing I noticed with Polec at Port, was that Uncle Ken needed to get the cat-o-nine-tails out every so often. It would seem that Shaw has reached that point as well.

Polec would be currently coming 6th in the Syd - this isn't a form related ommission.

Could be anything from attitude at training, off the cuff comments around the hub, 4 day break or of course just pure tanking.

I expect he will be back next Wednesday and that this is a 'rest' not a dropping.

What I find weird is we’ve been screaming out for dropping senior players for a decade, we finally do it and people lose their minds..

The wrong ones. And Browns drop is personal reasons, not anything else. Drop polec instead of Macmillan? Lol 👌🏻
