Not confident with Bird going in as one of our only two fast bowlers. But also not sure if someone else would do any better.

We will miss Starc's lower order hitting almost as much as his bowling. Arguably wouldn't have won the first Test without him making so many runs.

Whomever gets the call up won't be such a threat with the bat down the order.

Unless Cummins is flown over I agree, or Pattinson I guess.

I dont wanna sound like rod Marsh... but starcs batting was a valuable asset to the lineup. A tail of hazlewood Lyon bird could be 7 out all out

Given the squad they've picked they don't have a lot of other options, maybe 3 spinners Agar to strengthen the batting a lot will depend on the pitch I spose

They need to send someone else, unfortunately those in charge of these decisions gave us Stoinis last time

It certainly makes Ussie's inclusion less likely.

I'm tipping they'll send Patto or Cummins. Cummins is a risk given his lack of 4 day cricket and injuries, but he's the next best bowler, IMO anyway. The quicks haven't had to bowl that much and his batting would cover for Starc. Still, he's been bowling for a long time now, both in practice and in the shorter forms so imagine he might be fit enough. But there's risks for sure.

There's pros and cons.

Behrendorff wouldn't be the world selection in Indian conditions.

I wouldn't pick the Dorff in India.

What has Bird done wrong anyway?

That said James Pattinson has a fivefer in India and is a good lowerorder batsman.

Needs to be a serious reshuffle now. Lost Starc's batting prowess as much as his bowling. Bird in that regard makes me unsure whether he should get selected as a tail of Lyon, Bird, O'keefe and Hazlewood is very weak. Puts a lot of pressure on the topic 7 and gives India a fillip as well.

Imo whoever replaces Starc has to have batting ability, Pattinson does but should be ruled out due to how recently he's returned to FC cricket, Cummins likewise.

Just putting it out there... why did Mennie get selected over Bird again?

Because Mennie was the leading wicket-taker in Shield cricket last year.

FFS it's one of the least mysterious selections in recent memory if you pay a modicum of attention to the domestic scene, yet people paint it as some bizarre unjustifiable head-scratcher. He didn't even bowl that badly against South Africa, just didn't take wickets.

Well we have for a while now been picking our number 6 for their bowling ability and it's been 4 out all out so yeah lets select our frontline quick based on his batting.

Don't worry. They'll bring in Cummins but to make sure he doesn't bowl too many overs and get injured they'll play Stoinis at number 6.

And then Smith will bowl Cummins and ignore Stoinis' bowling.
