Grundy v. Witts should be very interesting and pivotal in the outcome of the game. It’s another case of our opposition getting up for their biggest game of the year against Collingwood.
Sier in for Treloar.
Brown in for Daicos.
If Greenwood doesn’t get up then Crocker comes in.

Whatever the changes are, in: Murray

We'll need hisnpace witouts Treloars.

Agreed.

Varcoe, Murray and Elliott(please god let him play) become even more crucial to our run and carry game plan now. Need that injection of pace across the ground.

Could we see Stephenson push into the midfield in the latter part of this season?

I also like the idea of Maynard getting more midfield minutes.

It is laughable how everyones writing us off after treloars injury. We are building something great and i would go as far as to say we will be better than we were in 2010. This team will win multiple flags. Teams that are good don't rely on one player. We are becoming and will be a force.

As much as I hope you are right, I have my doubts. Not necessarily in this group, or their ability. But that 2010 group were incredibly good.. and became dominant in 2011, with the ability to turn the game in a quarter and annihilate opposition.

I will consider myself extremely fortunate to see another Collingwood team like that.

I think somebody says that every week.

Somebody will be right eventually.

Get over it.

If we lose to Gold Coast we will not win a game for the rest of the year.

I’m reality our danger game and I have said this for the last month is Essendon. If we win our next two games we are lock in for the 8!

I am happy to keep Stephenson and hoskin Elliott up forward. I really hope Jamie plays in the next few weeks! Hopefully bring him in for the North game. We have a few options to cover Trelor. Degoey, crips and Maynard I think can all pinch in and cover the void. Atleast if we make finals Trelor will be back

BUCKS: WE NEED TO SPREAD TRELOAR LOAD

COLLINGWOOD coach Nathan Buckley said the Pies must "spread the load" as they attempt to cover injured Adam Treloar.

Buckley faces the prospect of being without the midfield star for the remainder of the season - regardless how far the Pies advance - but remains hopeful his team will welcome him back in 2018.

Buckley said Treloar would today have surgery to repair the tendon in his left hamstring and would need everything to go right for him to return to the field this season.

"That's his aim (to get back)," Buckley said on SEN.

"It's a possibility. Everything would need to go right on the other side of the ledger, and everything would need to go right on his side."

Buckley said he immediately feared for Treloar after seeing the incident, only to later think the Pies "may have dodged a bullet".

"Our worst fears were confirmed, I suppose," Buckley told Whateley after scans revealed damage to both hamstrings.

"It is what it is ... I feel like it's something we could do without and something Ads would prefer not had happened.

"We spoke briefly about it yesterday ... we're not a group or a club or a team that is going to rely on one person, but we're never going to leave one person behind.

"We have Adam Treloar go out, so the next person who comes in isn't necessarly going to replace Adam Treloar, but we have to spread the load.

"It's not as big a headache as you might think, and that's not speaking to Adam's ability.

"It's nice when you have options. It's all about thinking creatively and making the most of what you've got.

"We have young players that have proven when they've been able to perform a role when given the opportunity."

Adam Treloar requires hamstring surgery, season could be over

ADAM Treloar’s best chance of a return this year might be in Collingwood’s first final as Jordan De Goey shapes as a Pies midfield saviour.

Collingwood’s has confirmed the Herald Sun’s report that Treloar would need left hamstring surgery after also suffering a grade two right hamstring strain.

Respected sports medico Peter Larkins said the club’s assessment of an 8-10 week recovery was extremely optimistic.

He says Treloar’s season could be over, with the first round of finals 11 weeks on from Collingwood’s win over Carlton.

AFL DAILY: ROLLING COVERAGE OF TODAY’S FOOTY NEWS

BAROMETER: EVERY CLUB’S INJURY LIST, POTENTIAL INS AND OUTS

Larkins said Nick Riewoldt, Josh Gibson and Daniel Kerr all recovered from hamstring surgery around the 11-week mark.

It would mean the Pies would have to play Treloar off no match practice in a high-stakes final.

Treloar was in exceptional touch for the in-form Pies, averaging the fourth-most disposals of any midfielder (31) and seventh-most inside 50s (five per game).

His eight score involvements per game puts him fifth behind only AFL stars Dustin Martin, Nathan Fyfe, Josh Kelly and Gary Ablett.

But the Pies could throw De Goey into the midfield after playing 68 per cent forward this year given his explosive potential as an onballer.

His midfield work is so pure he ranks fifth in the entire competition for clearance-to-score ratio, behind the likes of Shane Edwards and Jy Simpkin.

Ben Crocker kicked five goals in the VFL so could take his spot in the forward line against Gold Coast, with Travis Varcoe (hamstring) to come back through the VFL.

Larkins told the Herald Sun that he had never seen an AFL player damage both hamstrings in the one incident.

“Eight to 10 weeks is the short end. Most clubs are optimistic in their recovery times. Nick Riewoldt was 11 weeks, Josh Gibson was around 11 weeks, Daniel Kerr was 11-12 weeks, so 10-12 weeks recovery is more common,” Larkins said.

“You have to give it 6-8 weeks and then you load it progressively so even if he is training in 8-10 weeks he won’t be playing in 8-10 weeks.

“I have only ever seen the double rip in a women trying to learn how to water ski who flipped forward, but in footy terms, no.”

3fb8faa0f2f1a90a624e2cc1da14ee01

Pies football boss Geoff Walsh described the double injury as a “freakish occurrence”.

“It is certainly highly unusual, to injure both hamstrings at once. No one can recall it happening before in football,” he said.

Walsh said as Treloar tried to sprint past Carlton’s Lochie O’Brien on Sunday, he stumbled, “left leg locked and before he tumbled to the ground his left leg stretched beyond its limit. It seems that he strained his right leg on the way down as he tried to compensate for the force pushing his through his left.”

Treloar had scans on Monday but said immediately afterwards he still wasn’t sure about the damage.

“I got a scan just before on the hammies and (will) get a couple more opinions from a few people,” Treloar said on Monday.

“It just felt like a cramp, that’s why we’re trying to suss out what’s going on. I’ve never done a soft tissue or anything so I don’t really know what’s happened.”

“I’ll find out in the next 24 hours, I guess.”

Walsh said Ben Reid’s return from calf issues had been delayed by knee soreness.

It means he is still several weeks away, with Moore and Elliott not too far away from VFL returns after six weeks out with recurrent hamstring issues.

Brayden Sier, 20, is averaging 24 possessions in the VFL as a big-bodied 191cm midfielder, while Rupert Wills, 25, is averaging 25 possessions.

“It’s bilateral hamstring damage, which is quite unusual. Many of our staff have been around footy for a while and have never seen one like this,” Walsh said.

Meanwhile, De Goey’s manager Ben Niall will soon continue talks with Collingwood’s list manager Ned Guy.

Niall had identified Round 15 as when he would recommence talks with the Pies, but those discussions have been ramping up for several weeks.

Niall confirmed the parties were talking but said he didn’t want to conduct them through the media.

“There are a lot of balls in the air so we will keep that conversation going and see where we end up with it. I don’t want to negotiate in the media,’’ he said.

“We are having cordial conversations as we planned.”

I think our game plan softens the blow. in that if treloar was playing 100% midfield it might be felt but bucks has them floating between centre / wing / HF and FF. as a rotation probably batting about 8-10 deep. we will miss his pace in the midfield so I'm not against bringing in a genuine goal kicker in perhaps Crocker and then giving Stepehson perhaps 10% game time in the middle. and against GC is a good time to trial it. although having said that I actually don't think Crocker really is in our top 30 let alone best 22.

Ladder position not significant for Collingwood insists Buckley
By SEN 13 minutes ago

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley says his side’s ladder position is trivial at this stage of the season.

The Magpies currently sit fourth with nine wins and four defeats from their 13 matches ahead of Saturday night’s clash with the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium.

It is fairly unexpected that the Pies would sit where they do but according to Buckley, it means little in late June.

When asked of the significance of holding a top-four spot, Buckley said on SEN’s Whateley: “No, I don’t believe so, the top four as such.

“We are 9-4. It’s significant that we’ve been able to turn a slower start around.

“You look back and it was only two rounds but in the moment it seemed so much more than that because we didn’t have a win on the board.

“The ladder itself is not significant now, no.

“It’s taking shape but it doesn’t go to full effect until the last month and you see which teams are in form heading through August.

“That’s the season’s picture. It is significant for us because we are confident, we are enjoying our footy and we are hopefully on the upswing.

On what it will take to secure a spot in the finals in 2018, Buckley admits that Collingwood have not paid too much attention to the bigger picture, preferring to focus on their next foreseeable task.

“I can honestly say that we haven’t looked at a number,” he added.

“We’ve got Gold Coast this weekend. We ground out a win against Carlton on the weekend. We used the ball terribly, we didn’t defend particularly well but we competed enough and did enough right to get the four points.

“In a very small microcosm, we’ve looked at that performance and there are areas we want to do better and we want to do it better the next opportunity we get.

“Anything beyond that is more macro and you do need to consider the macro and we are exploring what is possible and what we’re capable of, but more so the process of it rather than the outcome.

Ladder position is significant, the reason I say this is because currently we own fourth position and someone has to take it off us. It is ours to lose.

Considering we have 14 players on the injury list...leaving about 30 fit/available players for selection...I guess he currently is TOP 30.

Gold coast are the worst team in the AFL.
They would lose to Carlton at the moment.
Their shitehouse.
Missing Hanley. Day. Barlow. Hall.
May and Thompson are a test for this weekend. If Day / Thompson and May don't play they do not have a backman.

Saying all that of course it's a danger game. We weren't great last week and rain is forecast so that might negate cox.

But we should be winning this.

Forecast is fine for the weekend on the gold coast. Don't even think about a repeat of last year.

B: Tom Langdon - Lynden Dunn - Brayden Maynard
HB: Jack Crisp - Matthew Scharenberg - Jeremy Howe
C: Tom Phillips - Scott Pendlebury - Steele Sidebottom
HF: Josh Thomas - Brody Mihocek - Josh Daicos
F: Will Hoskin-Elliott - Jaidyn Stephenson - Mason Cox
R: Brodie Grundy - Jordan De Goey - Taylor Adams
I: Ben Crocker - Callum Brown - Chris Mayne - Sam Murray
E: Flynn Appleby - Rupert Wills - Brayden Sier - Nathan Murphy

VFL: Tyler Brown, Max Lynch, Sam McLarty, Jack Madgen, Adam Oxley (Sier and Murphy too, if we only have two travelling emergencies)
Injured: James Aish, Jarryd Blair, Tim Broomhead, Alex Fasolo, Tyson Goldsack, Kayle Kirby, Adam Treloar, Daniel Wells
Fitness Test: Jamie Elliott, Levi Greenwood, Darcy Moore, Ben Reid, Josh Smith, Travis Varcoe

Happy for anyone listed as "Test" on the injury list to stay in Melbourne and at most play VFL. We don't need to panic and rush anyone back IMO.

Well, Crocker did have 17 disposals, 8 marks and kick 5.2 in the VFL on the weekend, which is his best performance in the twos this year, so he's at least putting his hand up for a senior gig. Personally I'd have him in this week, partially through lack of other in-form options.

Think we can cover the loss of Treloar in the middle especially since I don’t rate an ablettless and toothless suns midfield.
Curnow looked dangerous against us last week and we MIGHT have been lucky levi didn’t play.( key word might )
I would be bringing in farty McLarty to play on 2M Peter to see how he goes

But it's just 1 performance of merit following some pretty ordinary games. Not sure that's the formula for promoting players when you consider others like Wills and Sier have been good most of the season. I personally didn't think much of Crocker's game and was surprised at his possession numbers. Some of his marking and his goal kicking accuracy (not necessarily a strength) were the highlights.

Stop with the Murray ins... Since when are we rewarding players clearly not in form. God sake.
