Changes for Round 20 - vs North Melbourne

My heart stopped when we winding down the clock, and with a minute and a bit to go he got it on the wing. Then it was called play on.. I was scared.

I would of wanted him de-listed right then and there if he stuffed up that one for us take him off the ground we will play one man down! it doesnt help his cause (or my nerves) when the commentators are on his case every time as well.

No changes unless injury.

Out: A. Selwood
In: Upgraded Rookie

I doubt they will drop Wilkes after one game, mabye Wilson if they have seen enough of him to make a decision on his future (doubtfull). A. Selwood might miss which would be a very bad thing.. I wouldnt really want to drop anyone.. the WAFL guys have either had there fate sealed all ready (for good or bad) or are not in the position to really force anyone out of a winning team.

If I was being very harsh id put Scooter, McGinnity, Wilkes and McKinley on the chopping block.

Lost me here or what. Scooter has been sensationa all year. Drop him and ill buy a Freo membership and hang it on my wall. Id go with

IN: Stenglein A.Smith
OUT : A.Selwood Wilkes

Purely based on this weeks WAFL form. Reward these 2 IMO, shorten the team up too

Stenglein is the new Fletch, he is finished.

Ashley Smith debut would be good but I think Ryan Davis is next in line for a re-call.

Hes contracted to next year so hes here for a while yet. Lets put him in the back pocket and give Scooter/Hurn a run in the middle.

Give Ash Smith a nice cushy debut on a wing/HFF

You're a Perth man IIRC Embers, so I'm guessing you went and saw Smith today?

Nah I was watching our game at the pub and having a goood time. I spoke to someone who did go and Smith was BOG for Perth. 28 high quality disposals

OUTS: McKinley, A.Selwood(inj), Wilkes (match ups)

IN: Davis, E.MacKenzie, A.Smith/W.Schofield.

McKinley: He Doesn't seem interested to me. 8 touches, 2 Marks and 1 goal is not good enough for a focal point in attack. Ive said it before "Lazy".

B.Wilkes: The only reason for dropping him IMO would be the height factor with Petrie and Hale playing forward, We need a taller defender down there and Mackenzie has 4cm iirc on Wilkes.

Callum Wilson: For all of you who are saying drop him the kid had 1 of the best FB's on him for a major part of the game in Lake. He still managed to create a contest and never stop presenting unlike the man above he tried all day and was part of the reason why Kennedy and LeCras found open space. Played a great game IMO.

The team I would like to see.

FB: S.Selwood, D.Glass, R.Davis
HB: S.Hurn, E.Mackenzie, M.Brown
C: T.Houlihan, S.Butler, M.Rosa
HF: B.Ebert, J.Kennedy, A.Embley
FF: M.LeCras, C.Wilson, D.Wirrpanda
RR: Naitanui, C.Masten, M.Priddis
INT: Q.Lynch, T.Swift, P.McGinnity, A.Smith/W.Schofield.
Emg: Seaby, Stenglein, Wilkes.

Out

Adam Selwood (Knee)
Ben McKinley (form)

In

Lewis Stevenson (I think he was told play well for claremont you in against North, so i expect him in)
Ash Smith (This kids going to be good for us, wait till his endurance is improved could be a real star like Hurn for us)

Out: Wilkes
In: Mackenzie

I'm going to have to watch that game again before giving outs, but while McKinley was quiet and I haven't been too happy with his endeavour in the past, I just don't get the one week in, one week out scenario many are suggesting, even for Wilkes, who I was not really keen on bringing into the squad in the first place and who I thought was ordinary yesterday. You have to give the kids a chance at three or four games at least, so they can show what they can do consistently. Same with Wilson.

Against North, while they have a taller forward line I'd like to see how we go with a more mobile backline that can cover for each other and hopefully provide contest/spoil and then run the ball out against their taller opponents. Bit like what many teams have done to us with our forward line of Lynch/Kenney/Hansen etc.

Rush him in while he's in form. Got nothing to lose.

The word id say is rush him in while hes confident. Hes definetly a bit of a nutter and his mindset is very important to his game. Just play him this week at home and give him a nice easy debut game

Be interesting to see who we bring in if that's true. Heard a lot of good things about Stevenson, how was he in the WAFL?

What about advertising our potential trades? Playing them so other clubs get a good look? Seams to me we have to trade or delist to get down to the required squad size pre draft, and if 3 rookies are elevated that means quite a few to go. (Vets not included)

I doubt hansen would work, because I don't think Kennedy and Hansen can play well in the same team, both a pure CHF's.Possible trades are Staker and Jaymac. Both very good yesterday.

Just a thought.

What I really believe is that we should keep a winning young team and boost confidence in taking the opposition on, breaking the lines.

ps looks like Cockie is gone for the season.

North have two in form forwards at the moment Goldstein has kicked 4 getting some soft ball up forward and Petrie. McKenzie will come in to combat Petrie or Hale. Wilkes would be a likely candidate to be dropped although when you beat the Dogs your backline is obviously functioning well. Hopefully their form line continues North are getting an easy win we had to work hard against a much better team to win.

Wilkes has to go. I don't know what criteria those of you saying he was OK are basing it on, but while I'd accept him playing next week for the sake of continuity, he was genuinely crap yesterday.

He is good in a contest (when he keeps his feet), but on top of having poor disposal he takes dangerous, low-percentage options. Maybe it doesn't seem so bad on TV but sitting at the game yesterday some of those backtracking kicks and attempted switch plays were mind-bogglingly stupid decisions for a professional footballer. Give him another couple of games if that's what it takes to convince you, but he'd want to learn quickly.

I also thought Wilson was alright, is accountable in a contest and brings the ball to ground, his value would shoot up exponentially with a good crumber.

Wilson is robotic, one dimensional forward.

Out: Wilson
In : Mackenzie

Let the Chief go forward, he's shown a bit of ability in the WAFL up forward.

Certainly not priority picks.:D Now the Tanking thingy has been removed from our necks, why not rest some sore bodies and blood guys like JoJo and Smith.
Personally would love to see these guys. Give them a taste of what the top level is like. May improve their pre-seasons knowing how hard the game is and how they need to apply and train during the off season.

As Fletcher was BOG for Subi, what are the chances he gets a send off match this week?

If Rosa doesn't come up (they were saying he had a thigh problem during the game) then Fletch in.

Davis in for Selwood.

Play Wilson for the rest of the year to see what he can do. Also I don't get all the Wilkes hate, I thought he was very good.

Need to find out which are keepers of the following:
Davis, Schofield, Wilson, Wilkes, Spangher, McGinnity

Want to see these guys get a chance to have a league game:
Notte, Smith, J Jones

Although I don't think he had a fantastic game, Wilkes did alright for mine. Just needs some more time to re-adjust.

Whatever, I'll be the odd man out. His decision making is atrocious. Why go for the switch or kick backwards if your kicking isn't even good enough to hit the target? If you're going to turn it over you may as well do it 55m straight down the ground; not in front of goal. Ebert did it too, but he hasn't made a habit out of it so I'm letting him off.
