No change would be ideal though I'd like to see Chris Lynn in the side sooner rather than later. Perhaps for Bailey or if Watson is injured.

Harris or Watson will not be rested, they can rest during the ODIs. It's simple, if they are fit enough to play then they play, if they aren't they wont.

If Harris doesn't come up then it looke like Coulter-Nile might be the man to come in though it would have been interesting to see Bollinger play now that McDermott is in charge and not that idiot cooley who ruined a heap of bowlers, including the likes of Johnson and Bollinger.

If Watson is fit to bat but not bowl then maybe Faulkner should come in for Bailey.

Watson is our best ODI player. He won't be rested

Going off the cricket Australia website article It could be Doolan for Watson and Faulkner in for Harris.

http://www.cricket.com.au/news-list/2013/12/30/alex-doolan-added-to-australia-squad-for-sydney-test

If they lose the bowling of both Watson and Harris, they wont replace them will a single all rounder.

If Watson comes up, then Falkner might replace Harris, although I'd prefer to see how Coulter-Nile goes at this level, especially if there is *any* question about Watson bowling.

If Harris comes up and Watson not, then Doolan or Faulker are both options, depeding on how they see the pitch (if typical Sydney, then Smith, Clarke and Warner might make up the 5th bowler).

If both are out, then it has to be Coulter-Nile and probably Doolan.

I don't mind the Doolan selection but Hughes should have definately been in front of him.

Can Bailey bat higher up the order? Watson out - Faulkner in. Bailey goes to #3 with Haddin in at 6 and Faulkner at 7? Only really know Bailey from the one day team so not sure if he could handle being a test #3.

Would've loved to see White get another run but I rekon he's had his papers stamped.

I like Hughes but he was dropped 5 first class games ago. When he was our highest run scorer on tour and after a big half shield season last summer.

He'll be back. But he has to finish off this season as he started it and then go on to England and do it again.
People bring up Marto and Hayden as similar examples of young players not been up to it and spending several years building their games before coming back. Hughes has to and he will do the same.

I just can't fathom why we insist on picking blokes like Doolan, I mean just averaging 40 this year but a 28 year old with a career average in the 30's FFS.

Given it is 1 game, a bloke like Travis Head should be getting the nod, at 20 it is going to help his development much more than Doolan.

this is exactly the problem with the big bash etc. You can't reward form when no games are being played, they've just chosen the bloke who was in reasonable touch a season back and ignored first class form this season.

I think Hughes's papers might have been signed at CA HQ. His technique is shyte & he's been found out just about every time he plays at international level.

Doolan got 160 against South Africa last season & 100 in the 1st shield game this season. He also plays straight.

In fact I would have played him in front of Bailey.

Travis Head's development would be helped a lot more by spending two or three more seasons in first-class cricket. The kid's 20 FFS.

and? being 20 doesn't need to be the reason he doesn't get the token call up Doolan is.

At least there is a prospect of Head playing a 2nd test.

In reality, I was merely picking Head of of a number of blokes who should have been picked before Doolan (and Bailey)

It's not so much his age as his inexperience. We have tried so many players ahead of their time in recent years and I don't think it helps.

The point is that if you think Head may be good enough now, at the age of 20 and with barely 1,000 runs to his name, then he will be a sure thing at 24 and with 5,000 runs under his belt. And could still have a ten year test career.

He is only 25... I'm not sure you can stamp someones papers at 25.

Plus the fact he is currently scoring runs for fun.

A bloke who's had 4 chances and hasn't taken one of them. If the Australian selectors are serious his age is irrelevant, didn't take his chances and not pick him again.

He's not test standard, simple as that

I think we the limited amount of batting options available to us, even if he wasn't great at test level, you couldn't stamp his papers. Give him the chance to make himself one, seeing as we desperately do need some to come through.

I disagree, he wasn't found out in England at all, the NSP was still in knee jerk mode and cut him.

He'll be back.

Didn't he take his first chance on South Africa?

No change. Am torn on Bayley but I think one more shot, he was a bit unlucky in Melbourne don't know if he hit it. Has looked OK when going after the bowling but has struggled defensively. Could go either way.

If Harris and Watson are unfit just straight swap for Faulkner and NCN.

Who would you bat at 3 if you replace Watson with Faulkner?

In a way having Watson as our all-rounder batting at 3 puts us in a pickle whenever his unavailable especially if there's a time when all our other batsmens are scoring. Bailey hasn't done much but IMO deserves to play in Sydney.

Which other bat would have you picked and please don't say Hughes who is a shocking number 3.
