How’s the bloke supposed to have impact in 10 minutes ? The guy should have played the full game.
Yeh I was surprised Port took so long to bring him on, but with Aliir, Burton, SPP, BZT and JHF all looking like they were in trouble, it probably makes sense to leave the call to as late as possible.

Looking at footage of BZT walking off the ground yesterday, can't help but think he's still battling significantly. Would be surprised if he makes it through the season.
BZT landed/moved awkwardly in a contest towards the end of the game, after that he tried to chase them but really struggled. Reckon it was just a low hammy strain or something, he may be OK for the weekend.

I think he came back on when that #35 for the D’s marked the ball just wide of the goal square and kicked truly - their only goal for the quarter.

I'm backing Jackson & Moraes in for a full game this weekend... Liddy, Lorenz or Mead can be sub. Then we'll almost be there with the team, until Jones & Lukocious are back.

Probably better if they'd had an actual forward down there rather than a ruckman cosplaying as one.

Dumbasses love to say "how could insert second ruckman of choice do worse than Finlayson or Lord?" Well Finlayson averages 10 touches and 0.7 goals, Lord averages 7 touches and 0.9 goals. Not only were both Sweet and Vis were below those marks yesterday, but in fact both put up significantly worse numbers than what they do when they play as #1 ruck. So not only did they not do better than Finlayson or Lord, but they made each other worse too. This happens literally every time we try it. Literally every time.

Neither Finlayson or Lord are stars but both are better than going in a man down by playing a second ruck. Playing two rucks doesn't make our forwards better, but it does make our rucks worse.
Two rucks works, IF and only if, one of them can spend a significant amount of time either as a forward (ala Lade) or able to drop back and be useful intercepting (Brogan). When all our rucks don't have a decent 'second string to their bow', an extra mid, and using the rotations to run an extra player through the middle beats wasting rotations on swapping rucks who can only ruck.

Need Logan Evans to find some form and push Ryan Burton out of the side. His softness is an absolute liability...

AFL App shows he had 30 minutes on the ground for 2 disposals.

Not having a dig at him, and don't think it's an ideal situation for him to show his ability - but that performance is likely to see him dropped next week, barring any fresh injuries.

I expect we'll see Boak or Lorenz come in for him.

I really like Hugh, and would love to see him get more gametime, i'm just predicting what the match committee will do.

I'm not a fan of Burton by any stretch of the imagination because of softness and lack of accountability but I was taken aback when he didn't make the distance from a couple of set shots outside 50 which is something which is usually quite automatic for him.

we need a faster better key forward with mitch against swans.. simple as that. so it can't be Lord.. and probably not Jezza.. Blakey will just go in hard for intercepts and run and gun unless they play someone on Blakey and keep him occupied and away and not SPP who I believe did it last game which might have worked for first part of game but won't this time and SPP doesn't fit that role IMO. So who else does that work? whitlock can't come in to be honest.. yes he might be good or good for him to come in but he doesn't know the system properly yet and will most likely just get in the way.. they need to not only protect Georgiades but also separate to give him room and keep interceptors away. unsure on who stays in with sweet or visintini because both have perks.. both need to work on their fitness 100% over pre season first so they can be one of the best trial run times and can just keep moving whilst then getting physical build too because that is both their major fall backs. Jezza probably best for rucking but he also gets in the way in the forward line and doesn't play up higher properly to give a target. Possibly have to rely on Georgiades and JHF as the key forwards IMO.. unless Lukosius is ready which I doubt. Honestly if port had Georgiades, Lukosius and Marshall this season they'd be top 4 easily. yes, Marshall... regardless of the concussions he's got one of the highest footy IQs and field kicks. Shame really...

We have a system?

Sure, 16 touches looks serviceable enough.

But only 2 contested, 3 score involvements, 85 metres gained, 1 clearance, no inside OR rebound 50s. He's just a guy that sits around packs, occasionally gets his hands on it, but very rarely does anything damaging with it.
This. He get cheap ball on switches to the opposite wing also.

I felt like those last 2 grabs he took in defence actually almost showed why he isn't quite ready. Up forward he's still struggling with the playing against men factor. Positioning, bodywork, etc all just needs a bit more time and he needs a bit more strength. When behind the ball though and you are roaming free, we saw exactly what his hands are capable of if he's able to get space and/or play through contact.

Really comfortable with how he's tracking for me, but I'd leave him in the SANFL until next year. Even the great W Tredrea only played 1 game in his first season.

The bar for our forwards (except Mitch) is so low though.

1 goal or a few marks and he suddenly matches Finlayson and Lord's output (or second ruck Sweet/Dante).

I kind of just want to chuck him in there against a crappy backline like Sydney's.

Burton was very good. The criticism for him is weird.
He has been better the last few weeks, but I thought this was one of the weaker 26 disposal games I've seen. A few dodgy panics out of defence, and didn't impact closer to goal like he once did.

But the problem was how poor he was defensively for a deep defender. Just no intensity or hustle at all and gave up early on a few occasions.

In the end, I thought he got lucky a few times and the ball trickled through for a behind. A team with a better forward structure kicks a few of those, and on another day, he'd have been pinged for a few more holding frees.

Too many occasions were he just doesn't try hard enough or attack the contest hard enough.

Burton was not bad on the weekend but I would prefer a younger player like Logan Evans learning that role.

I've seen Burton being very poor in finals, big games and through passivity, lack of care and no accountability.

It is the reason why I don't really want Finlayson back in the team. The attitude is just too much.

People just need to see Burton's defensive efforts in the game against Melbourne and see why he is a whipping boy along with Mead. Just look at how he was casually jogging when Pickett kicked his first goal. Burton easily had the chance to ensure it went through for a behind but he was jogging and realised it was bouncing for a goal and it was too late by then.

Burton is a depth player now. I don't think he will ever fulfill his potential or maybe he already has and we have simply been overrating his ability for a while. He is a far cry from when he first came to Port Adelaide.

At least you know Evans will run.

He was more than just serviceable, he played well. He had 26 disposals, including 19 kicks at 77% disposal efficiency, 7 marks and 452 metres gained.
