Fox Footy preview:

GEELONG CATS v NORTH MELBOURNE

Sunday, April 2, 1.10pm at Etihad Stadium

How to watch on Fox Footy: Channel 504 from 1pm with Eddie McGuire, Sandy Roberts, Brad Johnson, Jonathan Brown and Cameron Mooney

Team news

The Cats will have to find a replacement for the injured Nakia Cockatoo, which was a shame considering he kicked off his important 2017 campaign in fine style last weekend. Darcy Lang or Sam Menegola are the most likely to come in with Lang more likely to hit the scoreboard — which was Cockatoo’s role. Ben Cunnington will return from suspension for North, while Majak Daw is the likely inclusion for the injured Jarrad Waite.

Geelong’s burning question: How good could Daniel Menzel be by season’s end?

No matter who you barrack for, all AFL fans were delighted to see the luckless Menzel play a full season for the Cats last year. But those warm vibes could turn soon to frustration for non-Cats fans, as the talented Menzel could become one of Geelong’s biggest weapons inside forward 50 this season. The mercurial forward was excellent against the Dockers last week, booting 2.2 from 16 touches. And as the below tweet points out, he’s on the rise.

Menzel has now played the same amount of games pre-/post-four knee reconstructions.

Games: 21/21
Goals: 32/39
Disp: 249/309
CM: 17/25

North Melbourne’s burning question: Can the Roos play all three big men in the one side?

The ill-timed injury to Jarrad Waite means the Roos are likely to bring in Majak Daw for Sunday’s game against the Cats. That means coach Brad Scott will have to balance the trio of Daw, Todd Goldstein and Braydon Preuss in the same team. All three would have to play up forward at some stage, especially Daw and Preuss. While it’s doable, it must be noted that most teams that went in with tall forward lines last week — including GWS Giants, Collingwood and Sydney — all lost. Are small forward lines the way to go for 2017?

Predicted post-game headline

Cats, Paddy send Dangerous message

Tip

Geelong by 40 points

Would love to upset the Cats who think game already over. I'm surrounded by their supporters, think they are new converts with all their recent success.

With better selection and Cunners back i think we enough have enough talent to get the job done.

I agree.

Cats have the better players but we have the better coach.

Might get Clarke in as well, I'm concerned we will do what we always do and play a top heavy side with Goldy, Brown, Daw and Preuss and it just wont work

Think Daw might not get a game, will be interesting to see. (Not saying he doesnt deserve it)

Both Hansen and Thompson have to be dropped....

NEED to send a strong message that that awful footy is not acceptable

Will Brad and the selection committee make that call? Not confident he will. Accept mediocrity and that's what we will get
