Waite for Daw.
Hansen for Durdin.

It's just about right.

Rotate the rest of the kids.
Surely the only reason for any angst is that two taller defenders whose poor JLT form carried into round 1 stay, while Durdin's strong preseason is still unrewarded.

This is absolutely true.... the main issue I have is the so called senior guys that we continuously complain about don't warrant selection either.....so surely we can give durdin an opportunity ahead of Hansen or Thompson...... or vickers Willis ahead of atley. Im not saying to play them all at once but you got give them exposure no matter the circumstances
Yes true, though no reason why we should be playing both of hansen and thompson.. esp. If form and match firness not warrant it. I cant believe both are still on the list. Thompson is ab. puss and the game has passed on from Hansen.

We simply arent ruthless or smart enough.

While i say we shouldnt expose our youngsters afainst the best teams in the afl (seemingly clumped) at the start of the year, once given a debut, any youngster should be given game time, position and multiple weeks to become accustomed to the level and also not to kill their confidence.

Appears that way.

I think after watching Hansen and Thompson make the same mistakes the last couple of years, we were all looking forward to a changing of the guard.

It didn't happen. Prepare for meltdown.

Take 2, not only a changing of the guard but also a changing of the coach... and hopefully this time round no ties to any malthouse regime.. 14 years of it is enough!

Why not though? The sooner these guy's get the taste and the feel of big matches the better.

By mid-season, Essendon's young kids will have played in at least three big games boasting large crowds, a great amount of noise in hostile environments.

Meanwhile, we will still be complaining about the crowd in Adelaide.

No reason not to.. what i meant was at at a whole and throughout consecutive weeks.. im all for putting out an entirely youthful squad but not until the draw softens a little.. the start of the year against the best of the best would be like lambs to the slaughter..

Why not, it supposed to be aggresdive reset isnt it? We were dudded
I don't think anyone from the club promised an aggressive reset, in fact they all seem at pains to insist they won't be doing that. I know many in the media suggest that if you're not in the premiership window you should be performing a 'rebuild,' an aggressive reset or whatever you want call it but I don't think it can be simplified to such a binary approach. I'm not sure that a small club such as ours can really afford the sustained period of poor results that often accompanies this. Our membership would plummet and we won't be able to attract decent free agents. Plus I like watching us play decent competitive footy. I'm not sure that an aggressive rebuild guarantees you a premiership either.....a lot of the good clubs simply don't do it. None of Melbourne's many rebuilds worked out. Not sure that playing to many kids at the same time us great for their development either. For me, selection had been pretty spot on this year apart from Durdins non selection. More focus on long term development and more young players. Brad clearly has no problem playing young players when they're mature enough and good enough, e.g. Turner, Garner, Brown and Anderson in recent years.

Your logic and reasonableness have no place here. You should leave before someone tosses a bag at you.

The chosen few (regular posters) on here complain of an old boys club at north...

Dont get me wrong, the regular posters should be commended for their time and content is brilliant to read. Though, i feel a little insulted by somw.. as a member of over 30 years and a member on here since 2011, As soon as someone new pops up and posts something different or against the grain they are shot down and ridiculed... id have hoped we'd fo better for our own.

Not all newbies get shot down. If you put some thought and logic into your post you get appreciated. Posting like Chicken Little as if the sky's falling in after 1 round is bound to get to blowback.

Point proven.
Please point out the references made as if the sky is failling?

Such disappointing changes.

How can Thompson survive time and time again after serving us shit since his AA selection. I've never seen a player go backwards as quick as he.

Scott should have learnt by now that you can't play out of form players into form. So many times we've destroyed players confidence by either rushing them in under-done or playing them while they aren't contributing. Have a look how long it took to drop Bastinac, atley, black, Thomas (when he had the yips) and Anderson just to name a few...playing out of form players or under dome players simply does not work, and out match committee needs a kick in the arse for continually doing it over the last 5 years.

Frustrates the absolute **** out of me.
