Is it only me or do posters worry when JOD has ball in hand about his decision making and execution.

During last year I was trying to convince myself he was making progress with this issue,
but my advice is just do what I do , shut your eyes and hope !

When I open them sometimes I get a surprise and we still have the ball 😃

That's terrible advice you gave JOD.

But it might explain a few of our concerns.

We can win tomorrow night. A couple of thoughts.

1. They have 3 big forwards. I think Taylor Walker’s lack of mobility should be taken advantage of. Run him ragged, don’t expose our under strengthed back man to one on ones, eg Khamis. Our three tall backs through team defence must do all they can to get the ball to ground and we must run it hard and take them on from the back half. Sellwood to Rankine.

2. We have an advantage (finally) with English in the ruck. He should be able to jump over there junior rucks and, once again, run them ragged for 4 quarters. With the first use of the ball and I back Bont, Libba, Richards and Kennedy to have an edge in the guts.

3. Naughton and Darcy are in rare form. I back them against any defence. I hope Croft plays, he can have the ruck chop-out and keep Darcy at full forward for the entire game.

We are here to win, campaigners.

Arty being an emergency is a little baffling but I get that Bevo doesn't want to drop anyone based on the teams performances.
Team is just how I expected. Can’t drop to many off that performance. Since Picken led the AFL class action. We’ve got a lot more cautious(That’s a good thing). But man, I think we’ll miss Arty’s starting pace on transition this week.

I too would have preferred Jones in but it makes sense from a concussion perspective. He'll travel with the team I presume, which means he'll miss out on the VFL game. That's an extra week to recover, all going well.

Hopefully he won't be needed as an emergency but he's cleared to play if he must.

Lewis might travel with the team as well, so he too gets an extra week of recovery.
I doubt Busslinger goes over. He can do with all the match experience he can get, so I hope he plays VFL this week.

It’s likely the 12 day concussion protocol. Under the rules, you're barred from contact training until Day 11. It's tough to find match rhythm when you've spent the week in a non contact bib and only get one full intensity session before game day. I suspect that's why bevo didn't want to risk Arty.

Yesh was hoping Arty made his way back in, but likely nobody to drop for him. Hynes maybe the most obviously one, but if he is playing the role the coaches have give him (and is covering a lot of ground the first two weeks so likely is), would be tough to drop him after that. Arty next man up if anyone gets injured or is in line to be omitted for our next game.

Darcy kicked 2 goals directly from forward 50 stoppages - one was a free kick, one was grabbing it out of the ruck.

If Sam Darcy gets to ruck against a 2nd-gamer Toby Murray rucking D50 against him, this could be a key matchup for us.
I think there's a very reasonable chance that Adelaide bring in O'Brien to work with McAndrew and give themselves ruck (and this tall forward) flexibility. Putting an inexperienced ruck duo - McAndrew is 26 but was still only playing his 3rd AFL game - and Murray, although also 22 years old was who was on debut - could be suicide against English, Darcy and even Croft.

I was off the mark with O'Brien coming in but I was on the money with Adelaide looking at Murray rucking and think that there's no chance.

Not bringing in another ruck - and getting what I assume will be Thilthorpe to ruck - is a huge gamble by them.

Even if O'Brien can't do anything but ruck 40% game time (and McAndrew rucks 60% and rests forward 5%), in my eyes that was a better strategy against English, Darcy and Croft rucking so well as a unit.

And another point with Hynes not being dropped:

I think that he's in the team more for team balance.

With Sanders playing some midfield minutes, we need a balance of "big" and "small" bodies at the stoppage.

We have our 4 main mids in Bont, Kennedy, Richards and Libba. 2 big, 2 small.

We then give minutes to Frejiah (big), Hynes (big) and Sanders (small) as cover.

Clearly, we want more "big" stoppage cover than small.

If we dropped Hynes for Jones, but wanted to throw Bont forward, or Kennedy forward, or there was an injury, that puts a lot of pressure on Freijah, and it limits our tactical flexibility with him, while he's doing an important tactical role of running at the ball and at the contest from the attacking half. allowing the other forwards to run away from the contest, toward goal.

In other words, Hynes has not been outstanding, but he gives us far more flexibility and balance with our big bodied forward half/stoppage/run at ball +1 stoppage role than if we dropped him.
