Don't think it's fair to melt over McKenzie being included when he's strung together a really good set of games in the SANFL.
He's got pretty big upside too with his leg like a cannon, I'd like to see him stay another year and see if his good SANFL form could become good AFL form.

We have many options for our backline, except that we are short a tall (obviously the Dougal omission is cringeworthy).
McKenzie has apparently been in excellent form, and if that is the case then he deserves a go....but as a flanker with a suitable omission to make way for him.
Someone like "Treacles"Broadbent would be acceptable, and broadly a like for like substitution.
Meanwhile, in our forward line...."Rome burns".

McKenzie has played as a Key back in the SANFL though hasn't he? He's only 2cm shorter than Clurey.
With Howard playing up forward too, I don't think it's worth shifting him about yet again just to cover Clurey. We have to decide if we want him to be a forward or back and right now we are more in need of forwards than defenders.
Our Key defenders in the AFL at the moment are Clurey, Jonas and Westhoff.
In the SANFL that leaves Lienert, MacKenzie and Grundy if Howard remains as a forward.
Out of that depth, Lienert's a third tall defender. MacKenzie's a flanker thats only coping as a KPD because of crap SANFL quality, and Grundy is so raw he would be playing reserves if he was at any other SANFL club. And thats without even looking at the fact that Westhoff is one of our key backs at AFL level.
But we don't need defenders...

Actually for forwards we have Dixon, Frampton and Marshall.
And because we're looking to play a two rucks we're also going to playing one of those in the forward line as a marking target.
With putting Howard as a forward, we just end up with two forwards + resting ruck set in the seniors and reserves. Which is great.
Except when everyone is playing, we've still running makeshift key defenders in the reserves. So yeah, its still key defenders that we're most short on.
**** loads of half back flankers though.

Frampton is going to be delisted for sure IMO. Marshall has potential but is still very young.
We do have Hayes coming through who might be able to play up forward but right now we desperately need to find an AFL standard key forward to support Charlie or take over when he retires.
We also didn’t have Charlie until the last third of the season this year meaning trying Howard up forward was a no brainer and really should have happened much sooner.

McKenzie is as much a key back as Jonas really if we're going on height.
If it was me I wouldn't be selecting McKenzie, but I can see why he has been, he's been absolutely sensational over the last month and a bit at SANFL level.

What has he done to jump over others to get a game? Where are we playing him as a tall back or mid sized back? Who does he replace? Can't see Clurey or Jonas getting the arse so it must be 1 of Hoff or Bonner or Broadie.

You are forgetting Burton totally who has the body and the experience to play KPD. Even Hinkley can't think that Howard is a forward so lets leave him out of it for time being.
We have the least goals kicked by Key Forwards in the competion by a long, long way.
Two of our KPF's Ryder and Frampton will be leaving at years end. That leaves us with two KPF's Dixon and Marshall. Two of the most underperforming KPF's in the league. Dixon our 29 year old premier forward gets a spot to maintain forward structure, Marshall would be close to winning disappointment of the year. So they are our permanent key forwards.
And no, neither Lycett or Ladhams have shown anything so far to suggest they are even going to be goal a game forwards as a 'resting forward' so don't try to pad our forward line with them. They are not Lade, Hale, Cox etc. They are rucks who stumble around the forward line contesting some marks but rarely taking them.
But we don't need forwards...

Heard earlier in the week that Clury & Dixon where under an injury cloud.
So i'm not expecting Clurey to play.

Just when you think Hinkley could not **** things up any more- he does.
Despite what he or KT say Ken Hinkley has no understanding of the Port Adelaide Football Club's history or tradition. When he should be doing everything he can to ensure Port supporters have a SANFL premiership to celebrate he does the opposite.
Here is a thought, thanks to Hinkley the Adelaide Crows gold jacket award now has more tradition than a single Port Captain wearing the number one.
