Why would a best 22 player come in via WAFL?
Because they'd flagrantly abused the commitment they'd made and the trust the club had shown in them but apologised for taking the piss, had stopped skulling Jim Beam tinnies at quarter time, had got fit, swore not to take money under false pretenses again and committed to the required professional standards??
Also for taking responsibility and submitting to counseling to rid himself of the free-loading,entitled,self-centred personality disorder=
After 37 months a committed, fit and still talented Sylvia enters Fremantle best 22 via WAFL.:hearnoevil::hearnoevil::hearnoevil:

Cool story, but none of that had happened at the time. Most people just didn't consider Sylvia best 22 because he played for Melbourne.

I'm sure your version is heaps cooler but the facts of the matter remain;for the best part of an entire season you insisted he was being unfairly maligned on bigfooty and unfairly treated by the club.
Meanwhile in the real world he was flopping about for Peel barely bothering his arse to try and get a touch.
The true story of Col Sylvia's demise as an AFL footballer is not very cool at all.
Good to see you're still defending the indefensible.

No I didn't, you just aren't very bright.

All I was arguing is that him playing for Melbourne didn't mean he had to prove himself in the WAFL before playing for Fremantle, as a bunch of idiots here suggested.

The rest is your imagination getting carried away.

Did we bring D. Pearce in straight away? Can't recall.

Your insistence on making a complete and utter eedjit of yourself over Col has little to do with my intelligence.
What was reiterated ad infinitum back then remains the case today...you fit very neatly in the Colin Sylvia basket.

I think we need another 5 more pages of pointless debate about Suban and then agree to move on to something else? Perhaps 8 pages back and forth about Dawson? Followed by another 6 on Mayne? Oops, almost forgot Croz, a handful perhaps, say 4? Danyle Pearce gets 3? Have I missed anyone?

Yeah, you forgot Sylvia. Personally, I'm nearly ready to write him off.

Saying RTB has lost the plot/not man for the rebuild and all that crap is pretty rough just cause he dropped 1 youth.

An exp player is prob needed this week, though frustrating Suban can be, he will add some toughness.

We should be happy that 4 spots seems to be guaranteed to youth this year. We still get to see Weller, Blakely, Pearce Hughes do their thing. Weller & Pearce have locked in their spots for now, let's see if the other 2 can do the same with guys like Langdon/DeBoer/Grey/Mzungu/Clancee/Tucker knocking down the door.

Not because he dropped one youth player, just that we're yet to see any structural change in the game plan.

Happy for you to excuse me for doubting your opinion, insight and sincerity.

Your posts add nothing, you were fishing for reactions and well I provided you one.

Like I have mentioned previously, I'm giving Ross till end 2017 to adapt and provide a balanced game plan. We must not forget that we're paying him a massive salary to deliver a flag or least another GF.

FWIW, 26 is his high (vs Collingwood 2013, 20 kicks, 2 goals). It was in a thrashing (157 - 44), our biggest win ever I think.

.... those were the days.

EDIT: Also has 2 x 25 and 2 x 24 possession games to his name.

Thanks for that stats.

Suban is an interesting player, when he first started out I thought he be a great player. After the broken leg, just felt he lost the plot and pretty much gifted games for his perceived toughness.

Those early years were full of hope with Suban. Off rough memory, a couple of those 24+ pos games were in his first 2 seasons - he was all the rage back then, most were salivating at his potential.

Now many are all upset that he's coming in at the expense of a current day hopeful. The wheel keeps on turning I suppose.

Hasn't improved since year 1.

Suban did look exciting early on. Showed some dash, toughness and the ability to hit the scoreboard.
He's probably a good example of a player that had already reached his peak very young and as the game has gotten quicker and more skilful he hasn't been able to go with it. He had some bad luck with injuries early but has had a solid run at it for a while now and for someone that plays on and around the ball its a bit disappointing he's never been able to crack 30 touches in 150 games of AFL.

Obviously he's a good trooper and does everything asked of him, I just don't think he's very intelligent as a footballer. He constantly makes the same mistakes and rarely if ever does anything that makes me go wow. He's a foot soldier, cannon fodder and while I'm sure the team has to carry a few they aren't my favourites to watch.

I wish people wouldn't throw around the hate word when criticising those who have a negative view of certain players being selected. Personally I don't expect Suban to get any better and I don't think he belongs in our best 22 any longer but that doesn't equate to personally disliking him. I dislike the selection policies that see him get picked week after week as they are part of what I see as Lyon's achilles heel - the tendency to stick with role players who will execute his gameplan but offer not much in the way of flair or excitement. But I'm not the one who has to win games of football for a living so I have the luxury of expressing my displeasure in a forum that has nothing to do with real life but allows me to vent a bit. Thats not hating someone its being annoyed by the system which allows him to be a walk up start for so long.

I'm sure Suban will give his best tonight and will have an ok game, particularly if the deck is still wet. He's ideally suited to wet tracks where the skill levels drop and the pace of the game slows down. Ditto Mick Barlow but you can at least see a good footy brain in action when Mick plays even if he can't always execute at the same level he sees the game.

This is my sentiments exactly, you can not win the big dance with role players, you need a certain amount of flair and talent plus speed when it really counts.

Little hard to change something like that drastically on the fly after 6 games after training the game plan they're using for 6 months or so. I'm sure they've changed multiple things, hard for fans to pick up those things sometimes but.

Things I've noticed RTB has changed lately is
-Barlow & Hill in the guts more
-Mundy to half back (only 1 week ATM but my bet is be starts there tonight)
-more emphasis on youth
-Walters in the middle

Ross loves roll players

Ross is IMO a great coach who has his faults too. Posters complaining about Ross do they think their is a better uncontracted coach floating around?
